Chapter 6: Protector of Glitches

Freeze's POV
I really hope the others are okay... I bit my lip, pacing around nervously. I had been walking in overlapping circles for so long that the ground had been disturbed in places, revealing what seemed to be a figure eight formation of flattened grass to mark my progress. Without thinking, I immediately had left, knowing the anti-teleportation barrier would be set up real soon if I didn't split. Naturally everyone went their seperate ways to escape, but now that I think about it, maybe teleporting away so early wasn't such a good idea... I could've helped, after all. If Calypso, Winter and Jett died because of me, I wouldn't be able to live with myself. There was also the fact that I would be horribly vulnerable: an Ender glitch all alone in this part of the forest; which was infested with hunters.

I looked up eagerly, relief flooding me as I heard multiple footsteps approaching. It could be hunters, sure, but then, it could also be my companions. I unsheathed both my double daggers and teleported halfway up a tree just out of sight with one foot on the trunk and ready to jump down on my attacker.

"Freeze? You there?" I was very relieved to hear the familiar sound of Jett's voice, edged with apprehension and expected the three to emerge as I leapt down and landed lightly with a low rustling of the grass below.

"Yeah, glad you all made it-" I stopped, looking at the two newcomers in surprise. I had seen both of them glitch almost simultaneously as if proving themselves to me, even though only Calypso could control the powers that his disfigured code gave him. They were standing too close to have been following, and nobody had their weapons out nor betrayed any sign of hostility, so the rest of the gang seemed to be on fair terms with these two. I recognised one as a nether being, but the other's potential power could not be predicted easily based on looks alone. Feeling slightly awkard, I didn't take my hands off the hilts of my blades nor my eyes off of the two unknown boys. "Uh... Who are you?"

Viridian's POV
There are two groups of Minecraftians. Glitches and hunters. I can sorta see life from either side's perspective; glitches fighting and constantly being on the run regardless whether or not they've done anything wrong or even have activated their powers yet. It's really sad, really. At times I feel as if Notch has become blinded with his own greif and doesn't see sense when it's right in front of his face, but I won't ever admit it, not if I want to lose my head. But shamelessly, I do believe that the glitches have it pretty bad half the time. Especially when so many young children, many not even near adolescence, suffer a painful death that they don't deserve. A large percentage of spawnlings don't even makw it within hours of their lives. Okay, that is just horrible. A life is a life, even if it isn't human. You may believe I'm weird, but like a ever-patient mother hen is passionate to its newly hatched chicks, or a hard-working mother ocelot to its kittens, I believe that all lives are equal. The death of a human and the death of a creeper is worth exactly the same in my book. We all have our own cultures and traditions, and while the mobs respect us (even though they're more or less forced), we treat them back like dirt. It just seems difficult to think of mobs with feelings as acute as a human's to another human, I've discovered over time, and I don't waste time exploiting my opinion and disgust of their behaviour anymore. They're deaf to me, but also blind to what really goes on in this bitter world.

I mentioned I have insight into both sides. Not only do I sympathise with the glitches, but I also understand the motives of the hunters. Seeking fame, fortune, thrown into darkness by their supposedly gallant leader, so that they could not see the truth right in front of them. It was not the glitches destroying Minecraftia, it's us. It's fear. At times, I grow to despise those hunters, for I understand everything about them: they destroy. Why? It's the question that constantly revolves itself around my head, and I cannot think why. Why the mobs! Why the glitches? Why the massacre of the innocent, the unnecessary carnage? My role upon this world is to nurture and to grow, and I simply, cannot understand at all. But there are many things I can't even begin to think to comprehend, and I am young yet. As the glitches are forced to be hunted, all humans are forced to as well. They are not heartless, surely there are a few humans that see the truth, that this is little less than murder. The glitches that have turned their back to their own kind, I know they're only doing so to keep safe. The wouldn't kill for pleasure or money, I know that for a fact. As for people like Nightshade and Malik, they make me sick.

I can see things nobody else can quite reach, but I also cannot perceive the meaning of this whole hunt, which seems to be the basis of logic in everyone elses' eyes. Ah well. Personally, I just want to stay out this whole business, but I've been forced to do otherwise...

I skidded to a halt, pausing just ahead of a tall tree. Hidden amongst the dark green foliage, was the quivering silhouette of a hiding glitch. I turned around and called through the trees surrounding me on all sides.

"No, he's gone to your side!" I yelled urgently, unsheathing my sword and waving it frantically. The hunters that had teamed up with me (much to my reluctance) nodded and sped off in the opposite direction. I smirked and walked away, intending to make my escape while they were preoccupied. If that glitch had any sense, he would do the same. All in the day's work of Viridian (or more an hour's work, actually), protector of glitches.

Author's Note
I still have little or no idea of where the heck this is going right now... So why not add another OC to the mix? I want to get a wide range of personalities and roles, and first we have a glitch that's a hunter (*cough cough* *looks at Nightshade and Malik*) now we have a hunter that protects glitches... Bending the rules, I suppose.
