Day 3 -- Commands and command blocks
Day 3: 6/7/19
Okay, so I'm a liiiitle mad. John and the rest of the gang had computer games for block 3.1 and I had physical activity. I'll just switch, I thought, no problem, right?
Computer games was full.
I was mad.
However, I wanted to try one more thing. Board games was in the same room as computer games (rm. 66) and there were basically no boundaries between the two, so I thought I'd switch to board games instead and just go and join the server. I went to my advisor to ask and she checked.
Board games was also full.
I was mad.
So I went about my day as usual, I had four presentations in a row for four blocks straight before block 3. I went to independent work time instead of computer games and just drew and watched YouTube the whole time, because I already gave my presentation. I then went to physical activity for block 3.2 and John was there and I asked him to fill me in.
The first thing that happened was that everyone was nagging him for /op, so he caved and gave everyone admin privileges. That was a T E R R I B L E idea. I cannot stress this enough. Giving a large group of kids permission to screw with a world in new ways via commands is never going to end well. I don't know who all was there, but I can guarantee that Bradyn, Max, Alex, Gus and John were in computer games. Probably a lot more people, but I don't know.
The second thing that happened was command blocks were enabled, probably by Bradyn. As with commands, giving a group of kids like us power over an entire multiplayer server in the form of command blocks, which are more powerful than commands, is a terrible, terrible idea. John told me that two interesting things happened with the command blocks.
First, Gus spent like, five minutes typing out a command into a command block that did something bad, I forget what. I'll update this once I hear back from John. Second, Bradyn set up a command block that set John to survival and killed him the second he spawned. Honestly, I don't know what John hoped to accomplish by enabling command blocks and giving everyone admin status, but it's his fault when we inevitably destroy the server and/or crash it.
The last day we're able to do this at school is monday, so I hope that I'm either placed in computer games with John and everyone, or I can switch. I don't know what we're going to do, but I'm honestly kinda scared to see the state that the server's in.
Get back to you on monday,
