8 - Meet Bertha
Guys just saying Amber's PoV is gonna get a little dark/sad. So yeah.
Barely previewed. I'm feeling stressed tbh. So go easy on my mitsakes, plaese.
~ Amber ~
After we parted ways, I had to laugh out loud. I hadn't been in my house for a few months. I wondered what happened to it.
I climbed up the stairway. My house was a typical style in this town, birch wood planks (although most were oak) with oak wood on the edges. The redstone light above the dark oak door remained unlit.
I opened the door, breathing in the air. It was just like I left it. The couch and chair still faced the small tv, the kitchen remained untouched. When I went into the bathroom, nothing had been out of place. My bedroom was exactly the same, my bed was still made, my books on the shelves were no different.
But then again, I don't know what I expected. That they'd rent my room off to someone? That they'd destroy the whole place?
My stomach growled. I opened the fridge up. There was nothing inside. I guess I should've seen that coming. They couldn't have just let food rot in an abandoned fridge.
I sighed and shut the fridge. I walked over to my bedroom. My feet shuffled against the green carpet. I collapsed on my bed, finally realizing how exhausted I was. I didn't even bother putting the covers over me. Soon enough, I fell asleep.

My nightmare was the same as usual. But this time, it felt more real.
"Mom!"
I was my little 11 year old girl self. I had never experienced this dream from a first person point of view, always looking on from the side. I felt the emotions I had 5 years ago. Pain, depression, anxiousness, despair, confusion. I felt the ground on my running feet, soft crunches on the leaves. I felt the breeze on my face, whipping my long hair against my face as I ran through the trees. Trying to find her.
I could barely see in the dark. Usually the night sky would grant some light, but nope. No stars or moon. The only thing that emitted light was a wispy, silver fog that clung to the ground, crawling everywhere.
"Mom!" I called again. I had just saw her. Where did she go?
I heard a zombie growl, and ran faster. I wasn't supposed to be there alone and unequipped. But I needed to find Mom.
"Please! I need you!" I stopped and spun in a circle. I stopped when I saw something different. A silvery light between the trees, about 50 blocks away. There was a figure.
I could tell it was her. "Mom!"
My footsteps pounded against the ground. I sprinted as fast as I could to get to her. However, I tripped on something in the dark, and fell to the ground. The pain on my hands and knees felt so real. I spit grass out of my mouth, and wiped the dirt off of my face. But the tears made some stick on.
I looked up and saw the figure walking to me. She was a beautiful lady, with long brown hair like mine, and dark skin. The long, dark blue dress she had on slowly blew in the breeze.
"Mommy..." Tears streamed down my face. "I'm so sorry."
She slowly grabbed my hand and lifted me to my feet. She wiped my face. There was a sad smile, and she had tears as well.
"Amber." She kissed my forehead. "My beautiful baby girl. None of this was your fault."
"Why do you have to go...?" I choked.
"I couldn't bare to keep disappointing you all. I have to leave."
I shook my head. "You weren't! We could get through this..."
She smiled again. "So stubborn. Just like your father. Speaking of your father..."
As in on cue, I heard Dad yell from far away, "Amber!"
I looked back at Mom, and said again, "Please don't go."
"I have to." A tear escaped and ran down her cheek. "Please don't follow me. They need you. I love you." With that said, she kissed my forehead again, and walked backwards.
"No." I said. I was too weak to follow, so I collapsed on my knees. "Don't!"
She gave me one last look, and walked into the dark.
Dad found me 10 seconds later, sobbing on the ground. He knelt down and pulled me into his embrace. My tears stained his shirt. Soon, Charles and Fred found us, and formed a group hug.
"It was her decision." Dad murmured after a while. "It wasn't anyone else's fault."
I woke up. I sat straight up, and felt my face. It was wet.
That was the worst one yet.

Wow I am sad. Was about to cry when I wrote that. I'm too emotional. (Update: lmao I think it was because I was imagining it in my head cause when I previewed it, I didn't feel sad. Or I'm a robot.) But Sky's PoV is longer because I need to switch back to the chapters being Lily and Amber, then Sky and Cole. And I didn't do chapters like that because of genders, it's because Sky and Amber are both in the same situation pretty much.

~ Sky ~
Ms. Rose was a very interesting old lady.
But her house was nice. To the left was a small living room, and kitchen. In front was a dining room and stairs, and to the left was a walled off area, which was probably the bathroom. A few things surprised me: the amount of books she had, the fact that she probably had a bedroom upstairs therefore she had to climb stairs often, and the chicken in the corner. Yes, there was an actual chicken in the corner near the table. She looked like she was just woken up, which was most likely. She had a red collar on.
"Meet Bertha." Ms. Rose said, picking up the books she must've dropped earlier. "Completely house trained. Gives me my eggs."
"Oh." Was all I could say.
"You can see where everything is." She put the books on a table. "That's the bathroom. My bedroom is upstairs, next to yours. I'll show you to it."
"This is a nice place." I remembered I hadn't complimented her.
"Thank you dear." She walked up the stairs. I expected to see difficulty, but none. "Come."
I went up behind her. Upstairs was a short hallway with a door on both sides. At the end was a window with an empty flowerpot.
"Here you are." She opened the door to the left, and wandered inside.
Inside held a bed and a table next to it with a chair to the left, and to the right was a double chest and crafting table. Along the walls were banners, and even more bookshelves under them. There was a big window in front. A redstone lamp was on the ceiling right above the door.
"I hope it will be enough." Ms. Rose said behind me. "It was my son's old room."
I turned and smiled. "It's perfect. Thank you."
She beamed up at me. "Do you need help unpacking?"
"I don't have much." I looked at my hands. "Only a wood sword." I didn't want to pull it out in case she was frightened by swords.
"Only a wood sword?" She repeated.
I braced for the criticism. However, it wasn't the kind I expected.
"I'm surprised you survived with only that." She muttered to herself. Then, she spoke louder, "You'll need a better weapon. I'm a firm believer of working for what you want instead of getting it handed to you, so you'll need to go into the mines to get your own materials."
"But you gave me this room for fr—" I shut my mouth.
She laughed. "You think this is free? No no. You're going to pay me with chores like getting me the supplies I need for things, taking care of Bertha, and helping me around the house with simple tasks. Should be easy for you, unless you're not strong enough."
Wow. Rekt by an old lady. "No, I'm strong enough. I can do it."
She smiled. "Good. Goodnight." She shut off the light, walked out into the hall, and shut the door behind her.

I slept great. I woke up with no aches from all that walking, or anything. The bed was extremely comfy, despite being owned by someone else.
I stretched and looked out the window; it was light outside.
I thought about what had happened so far. I woke up with no memory, climbed down a mountain, encountered Amber, fought off some mobs, made it into Hidenburg, met Brad, and now I'm staying in a single old lady's house.
It was a wild adventure so far. And I was only born yesterday.
I rolled out of bed and looked out the window. People were milling about in the town. I had an awesome view, actually. It was of this circle in the middle of the town, with a few benches and a fountain. It seemed to be the place where most hung around. I could also see those stairs that led to who knows where. I was curious about them.
"Oh good, you're up."
I turned and saw Ms. Rose. She switched her nightgown out for a simple loose floral patterned shirt and black pants. Her hair was still in a bun, and her glasses were still on her face. To be honest, I thought people didn't really have clothes to wear at night. Maybe it was just an old people's thing.
"How'd you sleep?" She asked.
I blinked. "Good."
"Good, good. I have breakfast ready. Come down when you're ready." With that said, she left.
I looked around. There wasn't really anything else to do.
I left the room and went down the stairs. On the table, breakfast was ready. A slice of bread and some eggs. I assumed the eggs were from Bertha, unless Ms. Rose was cheating on her chicken.
"Eat." The old lady shuffled around the house. "You have a busy day today. Lots of chores, lots of chores."
I noticed she repeated things a lot. Nevertheless, I shrugged and did what she told me to do. Breakfast was delicious; I didn't realize how hungry I was. I gobbled the whole thing up within minutes.
"Someone was hungry." She chuckled. "Want some more?"
I held back a burp. "No thank you. I'm full."
"Okay. Well why don't you go talk to that friend of yours, Amber? Check in on her."
"How'd you know about her?" I frowned.
"Word spreads fast in the town. Just this morning I heard many different stories about the two travelers. I singled out the rumors and eventually figured out the truth. You are a special one."
"I've been told." I stood up. "I should check on her, though. Do you know where she is?"
"She should be in her house." Ms. Rose straightened some papers on the little table in the living room. "It's just up the road a bit, on the mountain to the left. Birch wood."
"Thank you." I walked toward the door. When I was about to touch the handle, I stopped. "I thought I had a busy day today. Why are you letting me go?"
She smiled. "I want to give you some time to settle down. Plus, from what I heard, you two are destined to be lovers. I can't interfere with that."
"Uh." I spluttered. "It's not like tha—"
"Oh, pish posh." She waved her hand. "I've listened to that line countless times before. Now go, Sky. Before I change my mind."
I hesitated, then smiled at her. "I'll be back in no later than an hour."

Hey look a chapter that I wrote today. Sigh.
But what was Amber's dream all about? Why did her mom leave? Who else cried? Will Ms. Rose roast Sky even more?
Uh I don't have questions for this book I forgot.
K
Rock on, my little rebels.
