6 - Doctor's Office

Haha I'm writing this authors note on my mom's iPad. Why? Because I drew this on the iPad:

Yay.

Also this is a day late, but you guys should be used to that.

K bye

~ 3rd Person PoV~

Amber and Sky had climbed down the small mountain and were walking through the valley to the gate. It took a while to get through the stone dip, and it made both a little anxious.

"This doesn't look natural." Sky said, gesturing to all the stone. He was desperate to start a conversation and to get out of the awkward silence.

"I read that they used a lot of TNT to make this valley." Amber explained. "Before it, the whole town used to be in a decline in the ground."

"Like a bowl shape?"

"Sure Sky. Like a bowl shape."

The two walked up to the gate casually. There wasn't anyone on guard or anything, so no one could really tell they had visitors until Sky knocked on one of the iron doors in the wall. The sound didn't seem very loud. However, a few seconds later, a male head popped up from above the stone wall.

"Who are you?" He asked.

Sky resisted the urge to say your father.

Amber resisted the urge to say your worst nightmare.

"My name is Amber." She chose instead. "Unless you are new, you should know me. I come to this town occasionally. The leader Brad knows me personally."

"We also require medical attention on her arm." Sky held up her arm so the man could see.

"Uh..." The guy looked around. He glanced behind him, and mouthed something to an invisible person. He then turned back to the two teenagers and said in an unsure tone, "Come on in."

The two iron doors were opened by another armor-less guard via levers. They walked through the 2 block wide wall and into the town. It was a bit hard to see everything when it was getting dark, but they tried to manage. There were buildings everywhere in the valley as said before, made of mostly wood and/or stone. Smaller houses also were extended off of the sides of the mountains. However they were bigger on the inside since they also led into the mountains. Sky noticed a giant fist-like stone structure to the left that jutted off a mountain. The inside was hollowed out and used as a house with an open wall. He also saw a set of stairs going up one of the less steep sides of the mountain in the back, leading to who knows where.

"Neat place." Sky said approvingly.

"Where's Brad?" Amber asked.

"Uh..." The guy said again.

The other guard chuckled. He leaned close. "Yes, he's new. It shows a lot. Brad's up there." He pointed to the top of the stone fist thing. Amber and Sky didn't see the person standing on top of it before. There was a male figure on top, gazing at the surrounding land with some sort of thing on his back.

The guard put both hands to his mouth and shouted, "Brad!"

The person 'Brad' jerked his head toward then, but no one could see his facial expressions. Then, without warning, he just jumped off the edge and dived straight toward the ground.

Sky gasped, but Amber just scoffed. He looked at her as if she was crazy.

Halfway down, the guy spread his arms. He turned his body and actually glided a few blocks above the ground.

Sky gawked as Brad sailed above them, turned in a wide arch, and came back to them. He flawlessly landed on the ground, with one knee bent and one fist dug into the ground. He then stood up, grinning. He had cropped ginger hair and brown eyes. He wore a simple gray short sleeve shirt tucked into a brown belt, and black jeans. On his back, Sky realized, was a gray elytra (1.9 update gave elytras, which allow you to glide through the air).

Brad wiped his shirt, and held his arms out. "Amber!" He walked forward and hugged her, despite the chestplate she had on.

"Ow ow ow." Amber said in his embrace.

"What? What's wrong?" Brad noticed her arm. "Are you hurt?"

"Annoying skeleton." Amber nodded. "Which is part of the reason why I'm here. Another part is I need equipment. Another is him." She pointed to Sky.

"Why do you need equipment? And who is he?" Brad tilted his head. Then, he just sighed and gave up. "We can discuss this in my house."

"Wait though." Sky said. "Are you two friends or something?" Sky prayed they didn't like each other, even though Brad looked to be in his mid twenties.

Amber laughed. "No, he's my uncle."

Oh thank Notch, Sky thought.

"Come." Brad said, leading them to the left. Sky wanted to explore more of the town, but he wanted to know about his situation more.

"Speaking of uncle, how's your father?" Brad started a conversation as they climbed some stairs. "And your brothers?"

"They're all fine. Probably gonna be worried about me, though." Amber replied. Brad was talking about her single dad, and her two brothers Charles, and Fred (name suggestions from my Mom. Thanks Mom). Charles was 18, and Fred was 21, so they were both older than her.

Sky was curious about Amber's family, and actual life. Brad didn't mention her mom...

"They don't know you're here?" Amber's uncle asked.

"Nah. I'll explain later."

"And I'm guessing that you'll explain who this is?" He meant Sky.

"I'm Sky." said Sky, his hand raised to the sky.

"Pleasure to meet you." Brad smiled back.

They finally made it up to the door inside the stone thing. It was just a simple oak wood door with a redstone lamp shining above it. Brad opened the door and gestured for them to come inside.

It was a small house. To the left was a kitchen with a fridge, furnace, crafting table, chests, and some counters. In front was a living room with couches, bookshelves, and a table. To the left was a spiral staircase going up.

"It's small, I know." Brad admitted, reading Sky's mind. "But it gets the job done. Besides, I'm barely here. Too busy working on the town. We plan on expanding."

"Where's Cameron?" Amber asked.

"Mining trip. I swear the guy was born with a pick axe in his hand. But he's a hard worker. One of the reasons why I love him."

"Love him?" Sky coughed.

Amber stared at him and said slowly, "Yes Sky, Cameron and Brad are married. They are—"

"Right." Sky nodded. He didn't judge who or how people loved. "Moving on."

Brad laughed and walked over to the couch, sitting down. "So what's up? What happened?"

Amber and Sky sat down on the couches as well. Amber explained her story. Waking up in the cave with no explanation to why she was there and why she had no inventory, and getting out. The wound, meeting Sky, and fighting off the mobs. Sky then explained his situation, about climbing off a mountain. Which seems boring. He also explained he had no memory.

"No memory huh?" Brad frowned. "Could you be a spawn?"

"Spawn...?" Sky asked.

"You don't have a family or anything. You just kinda... spawn in with no past."

"Huh..." Sky looked down in thought.

"Though they aren't really seen around anymore. I'm surprised one stumbled into my camp, with my niece no less. Speaking of my niece... that's very unusual to wake up randomly... I've never heard of it." He smiled. "I'm just glad you're safe. And you too, Sky."

"What happens now?" Sky asked. He was anxious to know what was going to happen to him.

Brad shrugged. "I'll send a letter to Minevale, and hopefully it'll go somewhere higher. Maybe someone will have an answer whether your situation is okay or not."

"My situation of being a spawn?"

"And living in a regular town, like this one."

"Are you offering for him to stay?" Amber asked, leaning closer.

"Unless you want him to live at Blockfield with you." Brad raised an eyebrow, a smirk on his face.

"I didn't mean it like that." Amber sighed. She decided to change the subject. "So you don't know anything about people waking up in random places?"

He thought about it. "I don't really know, no. Not one of the things I read up on in my spare time. But you can search the library tomorrow. Tonight, you two should rest."

Amber nodded, but Sky spoke up. "Wait, Amber needs her wound treated."

"Oh yeah, forgot about that." Brad scratched his chin. "Yeah, I can walk you to the hospital. Sky, do you need medical assistance too, or do you want to go to our spare house?"

Ew the doctors office, Amber thought.

"No I'm good, but I'd like to come too." He said, determined.

She shook her head. "I'm fine Sky. I'll give you your bandana back tomorrow, good as new. You should rest up."

"But—"

"We can bring you to your temporary home afterward." Brad said cheerfully. "That way you can stay with Amber a little longer. Come on."

~ Amber ~

"Hello Brad. How may I help you?" The nice blonde lady at the front said in her chair behind her computer. She tapped a pile of papers against the desk to straighten them out.

"Hi Barbara. I was just hoping to get a quick appointment for my niece, Amber. She had a puncture wound from an unfortunate skeleton shot," to this, Barbara tutted, "so I'd like to see it bandaged and make sure it isn't infected."

As she typed, I looked around. The place didn't really change. There were still birch wood walls, a Quartz floor and a small waiting room with a few couches and a table. Flower pots and bushes were spread out around the room, lighting the place up. Behind the receptionist desk to the right was a set of stairs, and to the left was a single bathroom.

"Where is the wound?" She asked.

I simply held up my arm. She looked at it, and nodded. "Tipped arrow?"

"Simple arrow shot by an annoying skeleton." I answered.

"Sure." Barbara smiled back at us. "You can go up right now, actually. Dr. Williams is free right now."

"This late?" Brad asked.

"He was about to leave, but I'm sure he'll stick around a little longer. Anyways, go ahead."

We walked to the stairs, and up the flight. When we reached the top, we entered a short hallway that spread to opposite walls. There were flower pots on each end, and two oak doors. One of them was open.

"Dr. Williams?" Brad called.

"Enter." An older male voice said from the open room.

We walked in to a small room. There was white carpet, two chairs (one behind a small desk), and one of those mats that patients sit on. Tools were hung on the wall and on his desk. There was also a tablet on the desk.

The standing doctor was an older man with graying hair and a clean shaven face. He had dark brown eyes that could've intimidated anyone, but at the moment he was smiling warming. He wore a simple white lab coat and gray pants.

"Hello. Take a seat. You should probably also take off that armor." He sat down and held up his CraftTablet. He pulled out a pair of reading glasses and put them on, reading from the screen.

For the next 20 minutes, we sat in the room and answered questions. A majority of the time was spent checking and wrapping my arm.

Finally Brad paid for the visit (I felt bad, but he said he always had a discount so it was no problem), and we left.

~ Sky ~

I was glad Amber was okay. I was worried the puncture was infected.

Apparently, she had a house there. I didn't think she visited that often to have her own place. But we parted ways, and Brad led me to the spare house.

"So, how much do you know?" Brad asked.

"About?"

"Anything. I've heard that spawns just have Minecraft knowledge and a name, that's it."

"That's it." I shrugged. "And I hate it. I don't really have anything to branch off of. What do I like? What do I hate? Everyone here knows themselves, but I have no clue."

Brad didn't say anything for the rest of the short trip. When we made it to the oak wood two story house, he stopped at the door.

"Well, I can see you're a nice boy that cares about others. So you got that going for you." He was about to reach for the door when he hesitated. "By the way, you don't mind having a roommate, do you?"

I frowned. "A roommate? I guess not."

He grinned and knocked on the door.

Silence.

A few seconds later, Brad knocked again. "She's probably asleep."

She?

A few seconds later, a crash was heard. Footsteps were on the other side of the door. Then, the door opened.

It was an old lady.

She was frail and short. She had gray hair in a bun, and a lavender nightgown on. Light blue eyes were under old fashioned glasses, and a wrinkled face.

"What? What is it?" She straightened her glasses and looked up at Brad. "Oh Brad! Yes yes, what is it?"

"Hello Ms. Rose." Brad couldn't stop grinning. "I'm so sorry to disturb you, but I was wondering if you could do me a favor."

"Oh, anything for you." She smiled.

"This is Sky." He clapped a hand on my shoulder. "And he's new here. He's a spawn."

"A spawn?" Ms. Rose repeated. "I remember when those were common."

"Yes, Sky's situation is quite rare. Anyways, he's going to need a place to stay until we figure out what to do with him. Do you think he could live with you until then? I'm sure he won't be much trouble. He can help you around the house."

"Wait—" I was about to oppose.

"Come here dear." She grabbed my arm and pulled me down so we were face to face. She stared at my face longer than I wanted. It was honestly starting to get creepy. Then, she let go of my arm and circled me. Finally, she stopped in front of her door. She smiled warmly at me. "You look like a nice young man. Strong, caring, a good friend. Of course I'll let you stay here for a little bit."

"You're the best." Brad said.

"I know sweetie. Now come come, I do have a spare room." She walked inside without looking to see if I followed.

"Is this wise?" I whispered to Brad.

"She's a good old lady. Lonely though. Lost her husband a few years ago. Her son is off at war. So I thought you could keep her company."

Well when he put it like that. "Okay. I'll stay here temporarily. Thank you for all of your help."

"No problem. If you need anything, you know where I am. Goodnight." Brad walked away.

"Goodnight." I called after him. Then, I walked inside and shut the door.
