Chapter 8
When everyone reached HQ, we all started to move to a large lounge room.
"Wow," I said, "this place exists."
Joseph laughed.
There were tables everywhere (maybe they were for flipping) and cakes just on the floor.Chests labelled different food types sat in a corner.
"Why isn't everybody going to take off their armor and clean up before the get the party ready?" I asked Joseph.
"In the Resistance, it's respectful to wear your armor and keep your weapons at a victory," Joseph explained.
"Let's start this party!" A young blonde boy yelled, lifting a juke box above his head.
He placed it on the ground. It began to play music with a soft drumbeat.
"And let's thank the leader who planned this strategy!" The boy yelled, grabbing my arm. I could see a grin through his iron helmet. Spiky blonde locks poked out of the bottom. His eyes were an intelligent blue. He looked like a fun person to e around. I decided to talk to him later.
The crowd of warriors cheered at me. It wasn't just my unit, but all of the warriors in the Resistance. A little flower of pride blossomed somewhere in my heart.
"You go, Ender," the boy said encouragingly, slapping my chestplate and walking away.
"Hey, guys. Great job out there, today. Herobrine's men didn't know what hit 'em," I said.
The warriors cheered, giving me more confidence.
"And we'll celebrate this victory like no other. Let's party!"
Everyone in the lounge cheered loudly and the music was turned up and filled the air.
I walked over to the blonde boy. He was taking his helmet off and putting it into his inventory.
His face split into a grin. "So, Ender, you're the new leader."
Yeah, I guess so. What's your name?"
"Bradley. I'm 14."
"So am I," I said before grabbing a piece of cake.
"Here's a secret," he suddenly said, putting his arm around my shoulder. "I'm a weird guy."
"Aren't we all?" I asked.
"I'm different. And I want to tell you because I trust you. When I was 11, the time that Herobrine first took power, he captured me and ran some tests on my body with his gamma."
I nodded. Ben sometimes mentioned the deadly gamma that Herobrine used for battle.
"Well after the Resistance rescued me, I was left with some abilities. Some supernatural abilities."
"What do you mean?" I asked, confused.
"I can look into people's inventory."
He pulled away from me and concentrated his electric blue eyes on my green ones.
"You have a used stone pickaxe, 12 steak, a diamond sword, and a bow." After that, Bradley released his concentration, looking exhausted.
"Woah," I said. "What else can you do?"
Bradley thought about it for a second. "I can see clearly in the dark and I can run faster than most people, but that's not radioactive."
I nodded. "I guess Herobrine's plans backfired then?"
Bradley agreed. "Pretty much."
I looked around the party. "Any recommendations on where to go?"
"Try the brewery stand," Bradley shrugged. "There's some cool potions you can try there. I hear the brewer is really good." He said it distastefully, as if he didn't like the brewer.
"Hey, it was nice to meet you," I told Bradley.
"Nice to meet you too, Ender!"
I walked over to the corner where a alchemist set sat on a table. A crowd of people was huddling around the table, so it was hard for me to get a good look at the brewer.
"It's Ender!" One person in the crowd suddenly gasped.
Instantly, they all parted for me to walk through and then went back to their normal business.
"Hey," said a guy who must have been the brewer, shaking my hand. His face was mostly hidden in his helmet, but I thought his eyes were brown. It was easy to find his hair although. It was dark and shaggy, reaching his shoulders. There was an axe slung across his back.
"I'm Ender."
The guy gave me a dark smile, pouring me a bottle of some blue drink. "I know that. Ender, age 14, black hair, green eyes, no one had ever heard about you a few days ago. Now you're a hero, although a humble one at that."
I tried to ignore the fact that he knew everything about me. I didn't know if it would be better or worse if everyone in the Resistance knew that information.
"What is this?" I asked, looking at the blue drink in my hand.
"A special brew of mine. Try it. Relax a bit, kid. And take off your helmet. People like faces like your's," the brewer told me.
I ripped my diamond helmet off and put it in my inventory.
"That's better," the brewer smiled. "Now let's try that drink."
I grinned and took a gulp.
...
5 years earlier
Ben impaled the zombie's back over and over until it glowed red and dissapeared.
He was on a hunt with Jane. They were both 11 and he had lead the HH for a few years now, since it was founded. In that time, they had built an HQ, found another girl named Grace, studied the HSP, and even tracked the DBR a bit. But Jane had never asked to lead.
She was the leader type, Ben knew that. But he was too. He wondered if he would ever let her take over, or if power would leave him greedy and selfish. He hoped not.
"Nice," Jane told him, leaning against a tree and shooting a skeleton on a lower hill.
"Thanks. You know there's no point int shooting something that's on another hill. It's too far away to hurt us."
"So what? This is the night. They're all monsters. They're all servants of Herobrine," Jane shrugged, shooting some more.
For the first time, a thought occurred to Ben. What if Jane would be too ruthless of a leader? That couldn't be true, could it?
He hoped not, once again.
...
Present day
The potion made me feel a bit dizzy, but I supposed it wasn't too bad.
"So what's your name?" I asked the brewer, who poured himself a cup of some red potion.
"I'm Rax," the brewer told me, holding his chest and gulping his potion. The drink didn't seem to affect him from what I could see. Although I wasn't sure, because my vision was getting blurry.
"Anything else about you?" I slurred, accidentally biting my tongue.
I tried to take another drink of my funny blue stuff. A lot of it missed my mouth and feel down my chestplate. I laughed.
Rax looked at me seriously. "You should stop drinking that, Ender. It doesn't look good on your reputation."
A rainbow man walked past me to Rax, holding a girl on his shoulders. "Give me your strongest," he mumbled. The girl giggled.
Rax handed him a cup of the red stuff he'd been drinking. I had to have some of that. I wanted to be rainbow colored, too!
The rainbow man galloped away.
"I want some Raaaaaaax!" I sang.
Cursing, Rax put down his drink and hurried over to me. He put his hand over my mouth. "Oh shut up, Ender," he hissed. "Let's get you to bed. No one can see you like this."
"You mean, they can't see me with you/" I laughed.
Rax rolled his eyes. "I may be straight, but I have to do this."
Suddenly, I was being lifted into Rax's arms. I laughed again.
"Shut up," he told me. Then he muttered to himself, "The Captain's Quarters should be on the left wing." Like a bird?
Rax began to carry me towards the door to the lounge. I kept staring at his iron chest and the strap that ran across it, holding his wand on his cak. Or was it the Dark Blaze Rod?
"Ender, you idiot," I heard Rax groan before everything went dark.
"Ender! Ender! It's an emergency!"
Those were the words I heard waking up.
I blinked open my eyes and sat up in my bed. My armor wasn't on me, thank Notch. The clock in the corner of my room read 11:00 am.
"What happened?" I muttered.
Joseph was standing at my doorway, holding some girl's hand. "Ender! This is bad!"
"What?!" I yelled furiously.
"Ender, Ben is gone."
