Keeping up the Happy-Go-Lucky-Fun-Time-Dance-Party-Riley act for so long has been hard, but I finally have my freedom back. And now I can finally succeed in what I tried to do a month ago.

Making sure my parents are preoccupied and Auggie is asleep, I climb out of bed and tiptoe into the bathroom.

Sitting down on the cold tile floor, I turn the knife over in my hand. Somehow, I'd managed to smuggle it into the bathroom early this morning -- and hid it in the closet behind the towels.

Of course, the usual thoughts are going through my head as I quietly retrieve two pill bottles from the medicine cabinet.

Do I really want to do this?

Do I really want to die?

Do I really want to end my own life?

But I know without a doubt that the answer to all of those questions is the same: Yes.

"Giving up for the second time, huh?" I ask in a whisper when I catch my reflection in the mirror. I look horrible. "Don't worry, it'll all be over soon. Just remember what Suzy said -- there's a reason Lucas cheated on you. You're nothing, Riley Matthews."

A single tear rolls down my cheek as I slowly drop back to the floor. I'm nothing.

The knife is in my hand again, and I'm squeezing the handle so hard that my knuckles are turning white. Slowly, I drag the blade across my wrist. As blood starts to flow out of the cut, I do the same to my other wrist.

Who ever knew that the happy, optimistic Riley Matthews would be the one to commit suicide? I think as I pour the contents of one of the bottles into my bloody hand.

After swallowing the pills from both bottles, I simply lay back on the floor and stare at the ceiling as the world slowly turns to darkness.
