"I broke up with Lucas."

"Really?" I ask. I mean, I fully expected them to split after she found out, but I guess I just assumed Riley wouldn't be the one doing the dumping.

"Yeah... I also told him that I hate his sorry ass." I smile, and she smiles back. "I figured you'd be proud of me for that."

I laugh. "And I am."

Riley sighs before looking up at me. "We need to talk about something, Maya."

Oh no. I slowly sit down on her bed, not breaking eye contact. "About what?"

She sighs again, quietly, sitting next to me. "Maya, I... Honestly, I don't even know how to say this, I just..."

"Riley?"

She looks up, staring into my eyes while I stare back, mesmerised.

And what happens next? The best thing that's ever happened to me.

Riley, her brown eyes moving her gaze down to my lips, kisses me.

After she moves away, all I can do is stare at her face as she smiles, a small blush creeping onto her cheeks.

"I like you in that way too, I think. And I think that maybe it could work out if we just took a chance."

Is she asking me out?

"Uh... I-I think it could work too."

Riley laughs. "Okay then. Should we go to dinner together on Saturday?"

I nod. I have a date with Riley Matthews.
