Chapter 5

Viktor's POV

He moved me to tears. Yuri Katsuki was skating with a passion that I had never seen him skate with before. When he skated over to me with his eyes bright, I had never felt so in love. For a moment, I had forgotten about Hayami. For a moment, I had forgotten that Yuri Katsuki was straight.

"Don't let go. Please." I murmured in Yuri's ear. Yuri tightened his hold on my shoulders and backed up so that our noses were nearly pressed together. He stared directly into my eyes with an emotion that I couldn't name.

"Yuri! You did wonderful!" Hayami walked up and grabbed my arm, digging in her nails and and tearing me away. I started to shake. I started to feel a choking sensation in the back of my throat. I felt my eyes burn. I felt my chest get tight. I felt a sob start to crawl its way up my throat. But then, it all stopped. It all shattered. Because that was the moment that my heart broke into two.

"Yuri, that was amazing! You're better than any skater I've ever seen!" Hayami smashed her lips onto Yuri's and Yuri patted her back awkwardly. I looked away to stop the tears that I knew would come later on.

TIME SKIP

"There you go, Makkachin. Eat your dinner." I murmured as I put down a bowl of dog food on the bedroom floor. Makkachin only looked up at me. "Makkachin? You aren't sick, are you, boy?" I stroked his head worriedly. Makkachin licked my cheek and started to eat. I sighed in relief. I had no intention of losing Makkachin. We had been together for so long...

I walked out of the room and down the hall to Yuri's room. I paused outside of the door when I heard lowered voices and grunts. My eyes widened and my heart stopped beating. I held my breath and opened the door slightly, breathing out through my nose in relief, and nearly laughing before I remembered earlier. Yuri was struggling to move a heavy box across the floor of his room. Hayami was sitting on Yuri's bed, looking at her phone. I glared at her, and walked in.

"Need any help?" I asked, looking at Yuri. Yuri looked up and smiled, wiping his brow.

"That'd be great, th-"

"I got it." Hayami sighed and got up, lugging the box across the room with ease. Yuri went pink.

"Well, I guess you don't need me then, huh?" I smiled sadly at Yuri and nodded at Hayami. Those words had deeper meaning than the two of them would see.

"No, we're just fine alone, thanks. You can teach him skating, but I've got everything else, Vic-chan." Hayami hissed my nickname with venom. I felt as though I had been stabbed. I turned my gaze to Yuri, watching his facial expression. He was staring at Hayami in shock.

"Alright, then. I'll leave you two in peace." I bowed my head and walked out, slamming the door behind me. I hurried into my room and quickly scribbled a note, grabbing a few important possessions and then hurrying out of the house, Makkachin panting behind me.

"Wait! Viktor?" I froze at Minako-sensei's voice. I turned my head. "Viktor, what are you doing?" Minako looked at me suspiciously. "Yuri wasn't rude to you, was he?!" Minako gasped.

"No! No, not Yuri. I... I'm just not needed at the moment. I... I should... go..." I immediately started crying at the word 'should' and started to run, tears flowing down my face.

"VIKTOR!" Minako shouted after me. I kept running. I ran all the way to Ice Castle before just leaning against the wall, crying, my face in my hands. Makkachin whined at my feet.

"Yuri doesn't need me," I said quietly to Makkachin. "not when he has his precious Hayami around. No, they were much better before I even came here. If I had stayed in Russia, I wouldn't even be in love with Yuri in the first place. Then nothing would matter. Then we would both be okay." I sobbed and sank to my knees. Makkachin rested his chin on my arm and whimpered.

Yuri's POV

I winced as Viktor slammed the door behind him. "Hayami, why were you so rude to him? He's my coach." I looked at my girlfriend wearily.

"Yuri, can't you see? He's trying to keep you for himself! He's in love with you! I'm just trying to protect you." Hayami brushed a few strands of hair from my eyes, and I let out a strangled cry, realizing what I had done.

What I had done to my true love.

My mind replayed an old memory from about a month ago, when I had first started dating Hayami.

"Yuri, he hurt me." Viktor whispered.

"Who could hurt you, Viktor? Who would do such a thing to you?" I cried. Viktor had stared at me with those pale blue eyes, unmoving, not saying a word.

I gasped, falling to my knees. "What have I done...?" My heart ached. I had hurt Viktor. I had broken him, I had made him sick back then. That was all me. This was all my fault. "Hayami, I have to go." I said, standing up and running out of the room and down the hall. I needed to tell him...

"Yuri! Wait! Where are you-" The sound of Hayami's high-pitched squeal was drowned out by my heartbeat. That, and Minako's sobs.

"Minako?" I peered into Viktor's room to see Minako rocking back and forth on the floor, a scrap of paper clenched in her fist.

"H-he's gone, Yuri," Minako cried, tears streaming down her face like a waterfall. "he left this, though." Minako held out the crumpled paper. I took it gingerly and flattened it out.

My little Katsudon, by the time you read this, I will be gone. I am flying back to Russia, as you no longer need me. I have seen the most amazing performance you have ever done today, and you have Hayami to cheer you on. The two of you really are perfect for each other. Just remember that I love you. Take that any way you want. It doesn't really matter at this point. Don't forget me little piggy. -V. Nikiforov

I fell to my knees, the empty feeling consuming me. He was gone. He was gone and it was my fault. "Yuri! What's wrong?" Hayami ran to my side and hugged me tightly. "Yuri? Answer me! What's the matter?" Hayami yelled into my ear so loud that it rang. I felt nothing. No emotion. Just blankness.

"Hayami, you should get back to your apartment." I said quietly.

"W-what? But you... your family said I could stay!" Hayami's midnight blue eyes widened slightly.

"As long as we were together, yes. Hayami, I... I don't love you. I'm sorry." I looked up at her, still feeling no emotion, now not caring at all whether I hurt her or not.

"Y-yuri... you're breaking up with me?" Hayami gasped.

"Yeah. I am. I'm really sorry, Hayami." I sighed, putting my face in my hands.

"Fine. I'll... I'll leave then." Hayami stormed off, and I heard the sound of crying and slams as she took all of her things from my room and packed them up.

"I need to find him. Minako, I... I love him." I choked out.

"I know, Yuri. Bring him back." Minako hugged me and pushed me out. I ran as fast as I could to the airport. By the time I reached it, I was panting heavily, and my face was no doubt a fire engine red.

I looked around wildly, and ran past a few security guards. They shouted at me to stop, but I kept running. I ran and ran and ran, until I reached the small metro that would take me to the gate that Viktor was hopefully still waiting at. I checked my phone. Good God. I had eight minutes. Eight minutes before boarding.

I jumped on the tram, and it took me to the gates. I looked around wildly for the right gate, and when I found it, I sprinted faster than I ever had. I looked around, tears streaming down my face. "Ma'am?" I asked the woman at the desk. "Where is everyone?"

"The plane is about to leave the gate. Everyone's boarded." The woman replied, startled. I gasped.

"NO!!" I screamed, running down the tunnel.

"Sir! Sir stop please!" The woman yelled after me frantically.

"OPEN THE DOORS!" I roared and pounded on the door to the aircraft. A startled flight attendant opened it and started to say something, but I ran in, sobbing hysterically. "VIKTOR!!" I screeched, sinking to my knees.

"Sir, please calm down." The flight attendant gently put a hand on my back. Tat was when I felt strong hands pull me up, and a familiar humming.

"Yuri? Why are you here?" Viktor whispered. I looked up into those pale blue eyes that had had me from the beginning.

"Viktor..." I gasped, and held onto him, refusing to let go. I sobbed into his jacket.

"Yuri?" Viktor repeated calmly.

"Viktor, I love you." I whispered in his ear. He pulled away sharply, his eyes narrowed.

"Don't lie, Yuri."

"Why would I lie to you? I broke up with Hayami before leaving, and I made her leave. I realized... I realized that it was you I had fallen for. Not her. It was never her." A tear rolled down my cheek, and I watched as Viktor's eyes widened, understanding that what I had just told him was true.

"Oh, Yuri." Viktor hugged me tightly, and I felt tears fall down onto my neck. "Makkachin. Come." Viktor called his poodle, and Makkachin crawled out from under the plane seat and jumped up on my leg. I smiled and stroked his fluffy head. He licked my knee.

"Is it possible to get my luggage now?" Viktor looked up at the flight attendant. She nodded hesitantly, and went up to the front of the plane where the pilot and copilot were.

We waited patiently in the tunnel, and I felt Viktor's hands crawl up my shirt, hugging me close to him. "Can you hear, my heartbeat, tired of feeling, never enough I close my eyes and, tell myself that my dreams will come true, there'll be no more darkness when you believe in-" He sang quietly in my ear. I joined in.

"Yourself you are unstoppable, where your destiny lies, dancing on the blades you set my heart on fire, don't stop us now, in the moment of truth, we were born to make history, we'll make it happen we'll turn it around, yes we were born to make history-"

Viktor started to yell, "DA, DA, DAAAAAA, DA, DA, BORN TO MAKE HISTORY." I laughed, and so did Viktor.

"Your luggage, Mr. Nikiforov." The flight attendant smiled warmly at us and handed over two suitcases and two more bags. I rolled my eyes and helped carry them.

"Thank you!" Viktor waved cheerily and we left. We left behind the airplane making its way to Russia. We left behind the wish to leave each other. We would never leave each other ever again.

Hope you liked that! If there're any typos I apologize. Love you all!
