Chapter 2

Viktor's POV

I sat on my bed, stroking Makkachin's fluffy head. He panted happily and licked my hand every time it got close enough to his mouth. "V-viktor?" I looked up to see Yuri standing at the doorway. I smiled.

"You can come in, you know." I laughed as Yuri's face got even redder if that was possible. Why was he blushing? I felt my face get slightly pink as he entered my bedroom. He glanced around nervously at the walls and the furniture, then back at me.

"Viktor? C-can I ask you s-something?" Yuri stuttered. My eyes widened in surprise. He doesn't usually stutter so much. Sure, he will once in awhile, but I thought that he had started to gain confidence in himself.

"Sure." I shrugged and patted the covers next to me. Yuri sat down gingerly, trying not to disturb the now sleeping Makkachin.

"Viktor, what do you do when you like someone?" Yuri asked quietly.

My heart leapt. My face reddened. I looked up at Yuri, whose eyes were staring at my face in surprise. I never got embarrassed. Not once. Not in front of Yuri, anyway. "Well, uh..." I looked away, my heart pounding so hard I swear Yuri could probably hear it.

"I-I'm s-sorry! I didn't mean to m-make you uncomfortable!" Yuri wrapped his arms around me. I nearly died my heart was beating so fast. "Are you alright?" Yuri asked, concern etched on his face as he felt my heart.

"F-fine. I just... fine. Everything's good. What sort of advice did you need?" I looked back up into his brown eyes. I nearly melted just looking at them.

"How to ask someone out." Yuri said quietly, looking away. My heart jumped to my throat, and the butterflies in my stomach started fluttering, trying to escape.

Is he talking about me? Oh please, let it be me. My head screamed. I nodded at Yuri. "If they love you enough, they'll say yes, no matter how you ask." I said quietly. Yuri's head jerked up.

"Viktor..." Yuri trailed off. My head was starting to get light. I felt as though I could drift away in the wind. Was he going to ask me?

"Yes, Yuri?" I purred.

"How should I bring it up? Just ask out of nowhere? What if... What if they say no..." A single tear dripped down his cheek. I gasped slightly, and wiped it away.

I would never say no, love. My mind yelled at him. "How could anyone say no to you?" I whispered. Yuri looked up into my eyes in surprise.

"Th-thanks, Viktor." He hugged me, and ran out of the room. I looked after him in confusion. I was still right here... waiting... hoping...

Yuri's POV

I ran out of the our house, my face still red from crying. Viktor had made me feel much better about myself. He gave me faith. Faith that I could do this. He gave me confidence. Viktor gave me an unexplainable feeling that I had never felt before. I think that it was that our friendship was building.

I ran out to the park. I knew she would be there. She always is. Just as I had suspected, I found her sitting on a park bench. Hayami. As beautiful as ever. Tall, slender, graceful. Her silky black hair tumbled down past her shoulders. Her eyes were a deep midnight blue, the color of the night sky. They sparkled as though they had stars.

"H-hayami?" I called.

"Yuri!" She waved happily and patted the bench next to her. My mind replayed the moment just minutes ago when Viktor had done the same thing in his room. I shook my head to clear it. I had to get this right.

"Hey. I just... I wanted to ask you something." I smiled, sitting on the bench. I was proud. Not a hint of pink showed on my cheeks.

"Me too. Would you mind if I went first, Yuri?" Hayami asked nervously.

"Uh... sure." I nodded.

"I really like you, Yuri. Would you maybe... want to go out with me sometime?" Hayami blushed furiously.

I gasped in surprise. "I was about to ask the same thing!" I laughed.

Hayami looked up, utter shock etched onto her beautiful face. She leapt into my arms and hugged me tightly to her. I laughed again. "Oh, Yuri, I was so scared! I thought you'd say no, or you only liked me as a friend..." Hayami rambled on into my shoulder. I smiled. Finally. I'm a twenty-four year old man, I should have at least dated someone long ago.

Hayami backed up, her mouth spread into a big grin. "Yuri, thank you." She took my hand, and we began to walk around the park, wandering aimlessly, just talking. It was so comfortable. She didn't make me uncomfortable. She just felt like... a friend. And that made me happy that I was that comfortable around her.

"I've been feeling... an empty feeling inside of me. Like I needed someone to cling on to. I think... I think that you're that person, Hayami." I scratched the back of my neck.

Hayami looked at me, joy sparkling in her eyes. Then, she kissed me. She threw her arms around my neck and leaned into me. I had no idea what to do, so I just copied what I'd seen my parents do. I placed my hands on her waist and kissed back, closing my eyes.

When Hayami pulled away, her cheeks were flushed, and she looked exhilarated. Her deep blue eyes sparkled. "I really like you, Yuri." She whispered.

I blushed. "Haha... I like you, too." I smiled.

"Well... I'll see you tomorrow. Maybe I'll text you tonight. My roommate's gone on a trip to Paris. She won't be back for another week." Hayami sighed and waved good-bye sadly.

"Wait! Hayami, do you want to stay at my house? You could sleep in Mari's room... Or... mine..." I blushed harder than ever.

"Thank you, Yuri. That's very kind of you." Hayami hugged me, the sparkle back in her eye.

So, we headed off to my house, hand in hand. I couldn't wait to tell Viktor that his advice had worked.

Viktor's POV

Yuri had been gone for hours. I was starting to worry, not only in a loving, crush sort of way, but the sort of way a coach worries when his skater's been in an accident. Oh, God. Please don't get hit by a car... I shivered as my mind started to wander.

"Viktor, dear! Would you mind getting the pork cutlet bowls! I have a few extra if you and Yuri want more!" Mrs. Katsuki yelled from the other room.

"Sure thing!" I replied happily. Anything to get my mind off of Yuri. He's fine, he's twenty four. He does not need babying. As I was setting the pork cutlet bowls on the table, the door opened, and I was greeted by Yuri.

"Yuri! You're ba-" I stopped in mid-sentence. After Yuri, a thin, graceful-looking girl walked in. She reminded me of a swan. Her black hair fell down to the middle of her back, and blue eyes shone with love and excitement.

"Hey, Viktor! This is Hayami," Yuri gestured to the girl. "she's come to stay the night with us, because she's home alone at the moment."

"That's great!" I smiled. Please be a friend... just a friend...

"See? I told you he'd like you." Yuri grinned at Hayami. She smiled back.

"I am so excited to be meeting the Viktor Nikiforov... It's amazing to finally see you in person!" Hayami gasped. I laughed.

"Nice to meet you, Hayami." I extended a hand. She had to be a friend. They weren't acting the way a couple would. Plus, Hayami seemed nice.

"Nice to meet you, too!" Hayami shook my hand vigorously and then just hugged me. Yuri laughed. So did I.

"Hayami skates a little, too, in her free time." Yuri stated. Hayami nodded.

"Hello, Yuri! Welcome home! Make your friend at home as well!" Mrs. Katsuki walked into the room, looking quite flustered, balancing a tray of dirty dishes in one hand and carrying napkins in the other. I took the napkins for her and set them around the table. She nodded her thanks and continued to the next room.

"Hey, Viktor? Do you think Hayami could sit there? Just for tonight?" Yuri pointed to my chair, which was beside Yuri. The guest chair was at the other end of the table.

"Sure." I shrugged. Just for tonight, love. Because you're mine.

"I also wanted to tell you something," Yuri lowered his voice so that only I could hear. I nodded. "it's about earlier." The butterflies started to flutter again.

"Hey, Yuri. Who's this?" Mari walked in.

"Hayami. I'll explain later. Can you make sure she settles in alright?" Yuri asked. Mari nodded, and Yuri grabbed my arm and power-walked down the hall towards his room. I followed close behind, as he was practically dragging me. I smiled.

"So? What did you want to tell me?" I asked once he had closed the door.

"I used your advice." Yuri's eyes sparkled.

Oh.

Oh.

My eyes wandered towards the door, where I knew that somewhere down the hall, Hayami stood, talking cheerily to Mari. My heart dropped down to the floor. The butterflies left. I felt like I was going to vomit.

"Viktor? Are you alright?" Yuri was by my side, his warm hands on my arm. I pushed the warm, tingly feeling away, and found that I was left with a cold, grey, emptiness.

"Fine. I'm always fine, Yuri." I replied weakly. Yuri still didn't look convinced, so I looked into his eyes. "Really. I'm fine. I'm really, really happy for you." I felt bile rise up in my throat, and I ran out of the room and into the bathroom. I threw up into the toilet, gasping for breath.

"Viktor! You're not okay! I knew it! You're sick!" Yuri gasped, lightly placing a hand on the small of my back. Once I was done, I stood up, silently. My eyes were closed. Only lovesick, Yuri.

"I think I'll go to bed. I'm not feeling well. Have fun at dinner, and tell Hayami that I think that the two of you are very cute together." I felt empty. Like my soul had left my body. So, with that, I left Yuri in the bathroom, looking rather crestfallen.
