Everly's POV
I woke up and rubbed my eyes I didn't get much sleep due to some nightmares.I nibbled on my bottom lip and tied my hair up in a messy bun.I opened my curtains to see Jax in his window as he buttoned a baby blue button down.I couldn't help but stare.I turned away when his head started to look up.I walked downstairs to see my mom drinking her coffee at the table.
Good morning honey she whispered.
Good morning I murmured.
"How did you sleep"
"Not very well"I poured myself some cereal and she stayed quiet.
So I was thinking we didn't have to do a party this year I whispered.
"You don't want one"
"No not really"
"That's fine honey we don't have to do anything"
"Thank you"
"Your welcome honey I just want you to be happy"
"I know mom I appreciate it"
"Would you still like your birthday cake"
"Yes please"My mouth watered at the thought of my double fudge birthday cake.
"Okay baby"I nodded and washed my dish.I got dressed for school and sighed as my mom dropped me off.I fixed my uniform skirt and walked in keeping my head down.I sat in my seat and got ready for our class.Leah walked in and sat next to me.
"Hey how was your weekend"
"It was good how was yours"
I found my mate she whispered.
"You did is he in our pack"
"No he's in riverbend pack"
"How'd you meet him"
"My dad took me with him to a meeting since I still haven't decided if I want the alpha position or if Todd wants it"
"Does your dad still want you to share it"
"Yeah but I don't think I want to be Luna I want my kids to have a normal life not be constantly watched"

"What about you your birthday is coming up are you excited"
"Ms.Collins and Ms.Black are you ready to begin class"

"Good"Leah rolled her eyes and followed along as I took notes.

"Yes to answer your question I am excited"We walked outside and I waited for my mom and Leah waited for her brother Todd outside.
"Having a party"

It doesn't feel the same anymore Leah I whispered and I stayed quiet and so did she.
"He'd want you to celebrate at least with your mom and brother"
"My mom just gets sad every year at this time it's to much stress"

Everly let's go Nathan yelled and I rolled my eyes saying my goodbyes.I got in Nathan's car and he sped off.
"Who's the boy"

"It's Leah's twin brother Todd you've met him before"

"Why isn't mom picking me up"
"She's caught up in wedding planning..why don't you like me anymore"

"Mom said you didn't sleep last night"

"Just had some bad dreams"

"No I'm fine"He squeezed my hand and I smiled softly.

"You know I hate that nickname"I giggled and we pulled up and I seen Alpha Jax crossing the clearing quickly.
Is he still upset with me I whispered.
No he's not upset with you Nathan murmured and he walked over to us.I got out of the car and smiled politely as he nodded to me.
"Everly are you doing okay"
"Yes Alpha Jax..Thank you for asking"
"Your welcome"
"I'll be right in okay"
I don't need a babysitter I murmured and he rolled his eyes.

Jax's POV
I growled lowly at Nathan's eye roll and he stopped.
"Sorry"The front door closed and I seen her little hands open up the curtains.She hated darkness it was always the first thing she did when she got home from school.
"So how is she really"
"Bad dreams she didn't want to talk about them"
"I'm sure they are a mix of things..they were strong"
"Yes it is getting to that time..How are you so sure"
"I'm sorry Nathan..She's my mate my wolf can feel her sadness"
"It's not your fault Jax...You've never felt it before have you I stayed quiet as I seen him grab Everly's backpack.
Only once I murmured.He nodded knowing I was referring to the day they lost their dad.
"You can come in we need to talk about the boy I seen hanging on her"My body went on high alert.My Everly was a beautiful girl and her scent that was forming was attracting unwanted attention.

"Todd Black he's in the neighboring pack.Has a twin sister Leah"
"Hm we might be having a chat..he's in Shadow then"

'Let her in and escort her'Nathan nodded to Leah who waved politely and bowed her head to me.Everly let her in and I smiled softly.She was my sunshine she always made a smile appear on my lips.She beamed at me and my heartbeat picked up speed.She shut the door and I could hear their giggling.

"I'm sorry I forgot to text you about your brother coming to get you"

"Do you think we could just have family dinner for my birthday"

"Can we have dad's margarita chicken tacos"

I was reading in my window when I seen Jax out of the corner of my eye.He was eyeing me but made it look less noticeable.I smiled softly and tried to focus on reading.My phone went off and I picked it up to see Leah messaging me about her mate.I laughed quietly when she sent me text screen shots of them chatting about random things.I set down my phone and rubbed my eyes tiredly.I walked downstairs and seen a wolf on patrol.I was assuming it was Jax's beta Derik.I stayed quiet and I seen Jax's window was dark.I nibbled on my bottom lip and went back upstairs and climbed in my bed.I hugged my pillow and fell asleep.
