[61] BOOK RECOMMENDATIONS

hello!

today, i thought i would recommend my absolute favorite books of all time to you.

i would rate them, but i'd give them all five out of five.

instead, i'll be telling you the plot (well my local book store will be telling you because i am terrible at explaining things) and why i like the book! i will also tell you if there is sequels.

don't worry; no spoilers will be given.

hope you all enjoy!

I.) Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead

  SUMMARY:

"   Lissa Dragomir is a Moroi princess: a mortal vampire with a rare gift for harnessing the earth's magic. She must be protected at all times from Strigoi; the fiercest vampires--the ones who never die. The powerful blend of human and vampire blood that flows through Rose Hathaway, Lissa's best friend, makes her a Dhampir. Rose is dedicated to a dangerous life of protecting Lissa from Strigoi, who are hell-bent on making Lissa one of them.

After two years of freedom, Rose and Lissa are caught and dragged back to St. Vladimir's Academy, where vampire royalty and their guardians-to-be prepare for a life fraught with danger. Rose and Lissa must navigate their treacherous world and never once let their guard down, lest the evil undead make Lissa one of them forever. But soon Rose finds herself gripped by temptation of forbidden love, leaving Lissa exposed to Strigoi attack.... Now she must choose between the best friend she lives for, and the man she can't live without.  "

WHY I LIKE THIS BOOK:

The plot is very enthralling. I've never read a book quite like this. I'm normally not one for most vampire books, but this one is completely different. It's action packed, but there's a love story and a best friend that help complete the protagonist. I've been addicted to this series since the end of January, and Richelle is turning into one of my favorite authors.

SERIES:

Yes, this is a series. There's six books in all, but there is also a spin off series.

II.) A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

SUMMARY:

" When nineteen-year-old huntress Feyre kills a wolf in the woods, a beast-like creature arrives to demand retribution for it. Dragged to a treacherous magical land she only knows about from legends, Feyre discovers that her captor is not an animal, but Tamlin--one of the lethal, immortal faeries who once ruled their world.

As she dwells on his estate, her feelings for Tamlin transform from icy hostility into a fiery passion that burns through every lie and warning she's been told about the beautiful, dangerous world of the Fae. But an ancient, wicked shadow over the faerie lands is growing, and Feyre must find a way to stop it . . . or doom Tamlin--and his world--forever.  "

WHY I LIKE THIS BOOK:

Sarah J Maas is one of my top five favorite authors. I didn't think I would enjoy this book due to the faeries, but I loved it so much. One of the reasons is because it's a beauty and the beast retelling. For those who don't know, beauty and the beast is my all time favorite fairy tale. Reading this book was incredible, and I cannot wait for the third book to come out.

SERIES:

There is two books so far, and a third one is coming out in May. Since this an ongoing series, I am not sure how many more books there are supposed to be.

III.) Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

SUMMARY:

" In a land without magic, where the king rules with an iron hand, an assassin is summoned to the castle. She comes not to kill the king, but to win her freedom. If she defeats twenty-three killers, thieves, and warriors in a competition, she is released from prison to serve as the king's champion. Her name is Celaena Sardothien.

The Crown Prince will provoke her. The Captain of the Guard will protect her. But something evil dwells in the castle of glass--and it's there to kill. When her competitors start dying one by one, Celaena's fight for freedom becomes a fight for survival, and a desperate quest to root out the evil before it destroys her world.  "

WHY I LIKE THIS BOOK:

This was the first book I read by Sarah J. Maas and I was blown away. I love the characters and the plot is absolutely fantastic! I couldn't stop reading this. The protagonist is such a bad ass and she is one of my favorite main characters.

SERIES:

There is five main books accompanied by a collection of short stories from the series in another book. More books are to be released.

IV.) The Iron Trial by Cassandra Clare and Holly Black

" Most kids would do anything to pass the Iron Trial.

Not Callum Hunt. He wants to fail.

All his life, Call has been warned by his father to stay away from magic. If he succeeds at the Iron Trial and is admitted into the Magisterium, he is sure it can only mean bad things for him.

So he tries his best to do his worst - and fails at failing.

Now the Magisterium awaits him. It's a place that's both sensational and sinister, with dark ties to his past and a twisty path to his future.

The Iron Trial is just the beginning, for the biggest test is still to come . . .  "

WHY I LIKE THIS BOOK:

This book is not considered young adult, it's considered for ages 9-12. But, one of my favorite authors is Cassandra Clare, so when I saw this, I decided to buy it. I was very surprised by how incredible it was. The plot almost gives me a Harry Potter vibe, but the plot twist is what really makes me love the book.

SERIES:

There is three books so far, but more is coming.

V.) Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver

SUMMARY:

" Samantha Kingston has it all: looks, popularity, the perfect boyfriend. Friday, February 12, should be just another day in her charmed life. Instead, it turns out to be her last.

The catch: Samantha still wakes up the next morning. Living the last day of her life seven times during one miraculous week, she will untangle the mystery surrounding her death—and discover the true value of everything she is in danger of losing. "

WHY I LIKE THIS BOOK:

This book is incredible. It sheds a light on bullying and what someone must do to makes things right. Some of you may know, this is turning into a movie adaptation starring Zoey Deutch, Kian Lawley and Halston Sage. I highly recommend you read this book because it's heart wrenching but still lovable.

SERIES:

This is a stand alone contemporary novel.

VI.) 13 reasons why by Jay Asher

SUMMARY:

"  You can't stop the future.
You can't rewind the past.
The only way to learn the secret . . . is to press play.

Clay Jensen returns home from school to find a strange package with his name on it lying on his porch. Inside he discovers several cassette tapes recorded by Hannah Baker—his classmate and crush—who committed suicide two weeks earlier. Hannah's voice tells him that there are thirteen reasons why she decided to end her life. Clay is one of them. If he listens, he'll find out why.

Clay spends the night crisscrossing his town with Hannah as his guide. He becomes a firsthand witness to Hannah's pain, and as he follows Hannah's recorded words throughout his town, what he discovers changes his life forever.  "

WHY I LIKE THIS BOOK:

like the last recommend novel, this has to do with bullying. I love this book because it helps people understand that they could ultimately be contributing to someone's depression. It's important that we don't do this and this book shows the consequences. The main character is such a smol bean and it breaks my heart to read this book. Chances are it will do the same to you, but it's a beautiful read and the author does a beautiful job writing the characters.

VII.) Unearthly by Cynthia Hand

SUMMARY:

"  When Clara Gardner learns she's part angel, her entire life changes. She now has a purpose, a specific task she was put on this earth to accomplish, except she doesn't know what it is. Her visions of a raging forest fire and a mysterious boy lead her to a new high school in a new town but provide no clear instruction. As Clara tries to find her way in a world she no longer understands, she encounters unseen dangers and choices she never thought she'd have to make—between the boy in her vision and the boy in her life, between honesty and deceit, love and duty, good and evil. . . . When the fire from her vision finally ignites, will Clara be ready to face her destiny? "

WHY I LIKE THIS BOOK:

Most people haven't read this series, but I'd highly recommend it. It's incredible and I'd love to have someone to chat about it with. If you're a fan of city of bones by Cassandra Clare, you'll like this.

SERIES:

This is a trilogy.

VIII.) Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick

SUMMARY:

" For Nora Grey, romance was not part of the plan. At least, not until Patch came along. With his easy smile and probing eyes, Nora is drawn to him against her better judgment. But after a series of terrifying encounters, Nora's not sure who to trust—she can't decide whether she should fall into Patch's arms or run and hide from him. And when she tries to seek some answers, she finds herself near a truth more unsettling than any feeling Patch evokes. For Nora stands amid an ancient battle between the immortal and those who have fallen—and choosing the wrong side will cost her life.  "

WHY I LIKE THIS BOOK:

I really love this book series. The main character is one of my favorites because she's such a strong independent character (if i explain, it would spoil.) Patch is adorable and reminds me of Jace from the mortal instruments series by Cassandra Clare. I enjoy angel books, and i would recommend this series in a heartbeat.

SERIES:

There is four books in total. No more are being released.

IX.) Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

SUMMARY:

" Cath is a Simon Snow fan. Okay, the whole world is a Simon Snow fan, but for Cath, being a fan is her life-and she's really good at it. She and her twin sister, Wren, ensconced themselves in the Simon Snow series when they were just kids; it's what got them through their mother leaving.

Reading. Rereading. Hanging out in Simon Snow forums, writing Simon Snow fan fiction, dressing up like the characters for every movie premiere.

Cath's sister has mostly grown away from fandom, but Cath can't let go. She doesn't want to.
Now that they're going to college, Wren has told Cath she doesn't want to be roommates. Cath is on her own, completely outside of her comfort zone. She's got a surly roommate with a charming, always-around boyfriend, a fiction-writing professor who thinks fan fiction is the end of the civilized world, a handsome classmate who only wants to talk about words . . . And she can't stop worrying about her dad, who's loving and fragile and has never really been alone.

For Cath, the question is: Can she do this? Can she make it without Wren holding her hand? Is she ready to start living her own life? And does she even want to move on if it means leaving Simon Snow behind? "

WHY I LOVE THIS BOOK:

I relate to the protagonist and i think we can all relate to her. She's dorky and awkward and that's what makes me love this book so much. It's a story about growing up and leaving all the stories you grew up with behind. It is a heartwarming story.

SERIES:

This is a stand alone novel, but there is a spin off titled carry on, which is the main character's fan fiction.

X.) Between the lines by Jodi Picoult and Samantha Van Leer

SUMMARY:

" Delilah is a bit of a loner who prefers spending her time in the school library with her head in a book—one book in particular. Between the Lines may be a fairy tale, but it feels real. Prince Oliver is brave, adventurous, and loving. He really speaks to Delilah.

And then one day Oliver actually speaks to her. Turns out, Oliver is more than a one-dimensional storybook prince. He's a restless teen who feels trapped by his literary existence and hates that his entire life is predetermined. He's sure there's more for him out there in the real world, and Delilah might just be his key to freedom.  "

WHY I LIKE THIS BOOK:

as i said in the last review, i can relate to wanting a book character come to life. I really love it and it's a very good read.

SERIES:

There is two books in this series.

XI.) Sisters Red by Jackson Pearce

SUMMARY:

" Scarlett March lives to hunt the Fenris--the werewolves that took her eye when she was defending her sister Rosie from a brutal attack. Armed with a razor-sharp hatchet and blood-red cloak, Scarlett is an expert at luring and slaying the wolves. She's determined to protect other young girls from a grisly death, and her raging heart will not rest until every single wolf is dead.

Rosie March once felt her bond with her sister was unbreakable. Owing Scarlett her life, Rosie hunts ferociously alongside her. But even as more girls' bodies pile up in the city and the Fenris seem to be gaining power, Rosie dreams of a life beyond the wolves. She finds herself drawn to Silas, a young woodsman who is deadly with an ax and Scarlett's only friend--but does loving him mean betraying her sister and all that they've worked for?  "

WHY I LIKE THIS BOOK:

I love fairy tale retellings. This is another one of my favorites. It's a very underrated book, but i love it very much. This author has many other retellings, including a little mermaid one, and an ice queen one.

SERIES:

It's a stand alone.

XII.) The Selection by Kiera Cass

" For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape a rigid caste system, live in a palace, and compete for the heart of gorgeous Prince Maxon. But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her, and competing for a crown she doesn't want.

Then America meets Prince Maxon—and realizes that the life she's always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined. "

WHY I LIKE THIS BOOK:

I am not a fan of cliches. So when i first read the synopsis, I was a little thrown back. This sounded a lot like the tv show the bachelor. But after reading the series in about 3 days, I can tell you that this book is not what you expect. It's riveting and there's so many small plot twists.

SERIES:

Yes this is a series. There are three main books, two spin off ones and one that's a collection of short stories from this universe.

XII.) City of Bones by Cassandra Clare

SUMMARY:

" When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder—much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. And she's more than a little startled when the body disappears into thin air. Soon Clary is introduced to the world of the Shadowhunters, a secret cadre of warriors dedicated to driving demons out of our world and back to their own. And Clary is introduced with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is almost killed by a grotesque monster. How could a mere human survive such an attack and kill a demon? The Shadowhunters would like to know...  "

WHY I LIKE THIS BOOK:

I kid you not, this is one of my all time favorites. For those who have watched the TV show and/or the movie adaptation, let me tell you this : you're missing out. The books are incredible, but to read the whole series is very time consuming. I can guarantee you that after you this whole series, you won't regret a single second.

SERIES:

There is six books in the main series, three in a prequel spin off series, one in another spin off series (more is coming) and two books filled with collections of short stories.

Those are all the books I'm going to recommend to you for right now.

I'd love to hear from you if anyone of you get the chance to read these books (for the first time anyways)

let me know if you'd like me to make a part two in the near future!

Anyways, Happy Reading!
