31. Maysley
I woke in a cold sweat. The sudden wake up caused me to fly up. Along the way I hit something with a strong force. 'Ouch!' It moans. I opens my eyes, which are full of tears, and look straight into the eyes of Clary.
'You okay?' She asks, holding my arm to keep me in balance. I narrow my eyes and shrug. 'What happened?' I manage to say. Clary lets go of my arm and leans against the couch. 'After Rye had a mad fit and left us, you had a break down, and when I lead you to the couch, you fell asleep.' She answers. I sigh and smile. She raises an eyebrow. I wipe away the leftover tears, and lean against the couch. 'How come?' She decides to ask. I lean my arm over the railing of the couch, and answer her. 'I had a nightmare about him and Carissa making out.' Clary bursts out laughing, and I happily join her. 'That's silly!' She giggles. And I agree. It was stupid to think Rye would actually do something like that.
'Good afternoon to every citizen of the OSRB. May everyone please attend supper in the canteen. Thank you for your time, and have a great night.' It's a different voice then in my nightmare. But it still shows off some fear. 'Come on guys, Rye better be there. Else I'll have to punish him with my own shoe.' Trace mutters, as we all stand up to attend supper. I chuckle and Clary holds my hand, to keep me company.
We sit down at our table, with our own plates filled with food. Like in my nightmare; Rye is nowhere to be seen. I quickly look around, hoping not to find him at another table with the girl I now hate with whole my heart. I don't see them anywhere, the girls. I close my eyes and deeply inhale. Phew. The sound of a plate being set down near me, makes me look up. Rye is there, sitting down, making sure not to look at me. His parents show me a sad smile, and sit down also. The only thing I do is continue eating my dinner.
A high pitched voice stops me dead in my tracks. I slowly swallow my bite of chicken, and turn around. Carissa. 'Hey Rye!' She smiles at him. I can't see his face, but it is not difficult to guess that he's smiling. 'Hey Carissa.' He answers. Carissa looks at me and I can feel the hate she sends me. She sits down next to Rye, and lays a hand on his shoulder. 'I missed you yesterday.' She acts all nice and sweet. But for me it takes no second to notice she's acting out. 'Yeah, I thought about visiting you. But some things were kinda in my way.' He trembles a little. I frown, and squeeze the fork that I am holding in my hand. He doesn't even realize I'm right here, behind him.
'Well, I can help you with that.' She purrs, while stroking his arm up and down. I mentally puke at the sight. She leans over, and whispers loud enough for me to hear. 'Wanna join me after supper? I'm going to the flower garden. It's so beautiful over there.' Rye chuckles and I almost feel the vibration via the bench we are sitting on. 'Why not? I didn't have plans anyways.' He tells her. She smiles and stands back up. 'Can I stay here, with all of you? My friends are kind off-' Rye interrupts her. 'Of course you can, sit down.' He pats the space next to him, and she sits down. While we eat supper, Clary keeps giving me these mad glares. I know what she wants. And oh, how badly I want to do that too.
The moment were Rye walks along with Carissa, I sigh. I turn towards the others, who are trying to read my feelings. 'Finally they are gone.' I mutter. Clary stands up and walks at me. 'Don't worry Mays. When we're out of here, she'll be gone.' She reassures me. But something deep down makes me feel unsure about that.
'Don't. You. Dare.' Clary threatens as Drew is about to pour water over her head. Me, Trace and Eth are laughing hysterically. I'm holding my stomach, because of its soreness. 'Oh I would!' Drew laughs. With a swift move, I fall of the couch. Clary sees this, and snorts. 'Poor thing.' She says sarcastically. I wipe my tears away, and stand up, still chuckling a little. I hold up my fists, and threaten her. 'Oh, you want to fight me?' She grins and positions herself. Just as I am about to throw my first punch, Drew stands in front of Clary. 'Hey!' She shouts, holding her hands up in the air. My fist is still moving, but it is too late. My impact has made it to Drew's chest. I pull my hand back, hissing. 'Goodness Grace! How hard is your chest?' I ask, in a loud voice. I blow small kisses on my hand while Drew points his finger at me. 'You're not going to hurt my Clare!' 'I'm not yours!' Clary cries, sitting down on the ground. Drew turns to her and grins. 'Not yet.' I make a puking gesture and Drew frowns at me, in a funny way.
After we're all done, Trace begins at a serious subject. 'Maysley? Can I ask you something?' I raise my eyebrow, and sit next to him. 'Yeah?' He sighs. 'Would you think Rye is lying to you?' I chuckle. 'No, why?' Trace plays with the hem of his shirt, and looks back up at me. 'Well, I don't trust that Carissa. I see the way she looks at him. And I don't want my half sis to get hurt.' I awe and throw my arms around him. 'Don't worry about me, or Rye.'
'But seriously though. What is up with that Carissa?' Clary asks. I shake my head and sigh. 'I have no idea.' Eth joins our conversation and speaks up. 'The only thing I know is that she's a cold hearted bitch.' Drew and Clary laugh, while I just think about what Trace said. Could Rye possible be capable of something like that? Knowing he'd hurt me, and my friends? I really hope he is making the right choices. He may not know about my mixed up feelings, but he does know I care about him. I know for sure he sees me, In a mental way.
'By the way, how long is Rye going to take? Should we search for him?' Eth asks. I think about it for a few seconds. It may be a good idea. I can clear up some things between me and Rye, and we maybe even be done with that Carissa. I slowly nod my head. 'Yeah, let's go.' Me and Eth walk towards the door, but the others won't come. I turn around. 'Guys? You aren't coming with us?' Clary shakes her head and answers. 'No, sorry. I need to clear up my thoughts.' The others nod their heads along, and I just chuckle. 'Idiots.'
I am the first one to open the door, as I walk through and look up, I see two shadows in the distance, talking to each other and holding hands. I see Carissa lean into Rye, and giving him a kiss on his cheek. I can see him hold up his hand to his cheek, smiling. 'See you later.' She winks at him, and walks away. Rye chuckles and stares at her, walking away. I blink away my watery eyes, and close my mouth from hanging open. The moment our eyes make eye contact, I can spot some sadness in them. But I guess my presence made his angry state return. Because he frowns and storms past me, inside our quarter. I stand there, eyes wide. What just happened?
'You okay?' I hear Eth ask behind me. I shake my head, trembling. 'N-no... Just... Give me a few minutes.' I say, feeling the tears run down my face. I shake my head and walk away from our quarter. 'Where are you going?' Eth asks behind me. Without turning my head around I answer him, 'J-just visiting the animal shelter.' And I run. I run till I can't take a breath anymore.
He lied. He cared. He distrusted you. He likes you. Shut up! I shake as I cradle myself. After I arrived at the shelter, I ran to a corner and sat down. I broke down crying, and then the thoughts came flying to my mind. I start muttering to myself. 'How could he do this? How did you let this happen? Shut up. Get it togethe-' Arms wrap around my body, and I break down crying again. 'Ssh. Ssh.' The person whispers.
After a few minutes of crying and hugging, I pull away. Trace. 'T-Trace? What are you doing here?' I ask. He smiles in a sad way and strokes my hair. 'I came here to help you.' I blink and keep quiet. 'I told you, I'm not keeping you in sadness.' A few things come to my mind, and immediately a couple of tears free themselves. 'What about Lashe-' I get interrupted by him,
Because he pushes his lips onto mine.
