Heartbreak pt2
Kyle's POV
Kyle glanced at his wristwatch seeing that it was starting to get late. 17:34. "Charles is awfully late," he said as he stood with Mark at the school gates. "Maybe he quit his job," Mark stated. Kyle refrained himself from slapping him across the head. "Wanna walk home?" he asked, his hair covering his eyes. Kyle wanted to say no but it was obvious that there's no point in waiting here. "We'll at least take the bus," he said as he lead the way. "Can we stop by the library? I have this project to do," Mark explained but Kyle already knew he was lying. And as if Mark knew, he said, "Okay but the librarian there-," Kyle covered his mouth. "Stop. Just stop. We can go there but for thirty minutes." Mark shook his head and they both made their way to the library.
Once the arrived there, they both went their own ways. Kyle went to the back of the library where it's cool and quiet. He shut his eyes to melt in the silence but the universe obviously didn't want that. "What are you doing here like a creep?" Kyle heard and voice and he knew who it belonged to. "What do you want Deandre?" he grunted. "What do you mean? I'm always here. What are you doing here at this time?" Deandre asked. Kyle explained the whole situation with Mark and Deandre simply rolled his eyes and said, "Idiot." This caused Kyle to chuckle. They both sat in silence until Kyle broke the ice and said, "So how's it going?" He asked. "Huh?" Kyle ran his fingers through his hair. "The business I mean. It's it operating well?" he elaborated. He tried not sounding awkward as if he was digging some information on Deandre. Kyle never knew much about Deandre. The only thing that connected them was work only. Other than that, he was just another stranger he sees on the street. Deandre sat in silence as of trying to find the right words to answer Kyle's question without revealing too much. Everything there is always find secretly. 'But then again, it was an illegal business,' Kyle thought to himself. Then what seemed like forever, Deandre opened his mouth to answer. "It's good," he said. Kyle had a 'poker face' expression on his face. He knew he should've kept his mouth shut. Deandre might've sensed the disappointment from Kyle because he sighed and continued. "There's a new boss and of course the business is going through a rough patch but he's better than you know who," he said. Kyle's eyes widened. He had heard rumours about this new boss and how Alvaro died but he didn't think it was all true but by judging Deandre's expression, he saw that he wasn't going to say more than he has said. But he had one more question to ask. "Am I going to continue to work?" he asked, almost in a murmur. Deandre raised a brief at him in confusion then shook his head. "Why?" he asked. Kyle just shook his head. "Look kid. I see you as a hermanito . And I wouldn't want my hermanito in a business like that when they have a prosperous future. You come from a good background and you're talented. Live your life. It isn't fair but it's good," he said. All Kyle could do was nod. He wanted to continue working there for other reasons. Then his phone buzzed in his pant pocket. He took it out and read the notification.
Charles
Have you already left? I've been waiting at your school but I couldn't find you.
18:05
He quickly typed to send a response.
Sorry about that. I went to the library with a friend of mine. Pick me up there.
18:05
Yes sir.
18:06
He slipped his phone back into his pocket and stood up to stretch. "I mean it, Cohen," Deandre said. Kyle looked back at him, frowning. "I don't want you near that business. If I find you there, I will drag you out. And you know I teach discipline." Kyle gulped then said "Goodbye Deandre." Deandre nodded before Kyle turned and walk away.
He looked around, waiting for Mark by the door. Charles was gonna arrive anytime soon and Mark was wherever he was. He was about to call him then he remembered he was inside the library. Then the doors opened and Mark appeared. "Sorry about the delay," he apologized. Kyle observed him then he noticed something on his cheek. "Uhmmm..." He tapped his cheek and Mark laughed it off. "Oh that? A little love tap," he smiled. Kyle looked at how red his cheek was. "Uh huh. Love tap. Anyway, Charles is coming soon," as he said that, Charles' SUV came after turning at the corner. "Well here he is," Mark said. "Let's get going. I have a video game to play," he continued. "And the assignment?" Kyle asked. "What assignment?" Kyle say it was hopeless so he dropped the topic. "Nevermind. Let's get in. It's getting late."
After dropping off Mark, Charles drove straight to the Cohen residence. Kyle couldn't wait to get back home and sleep. Once they arrived, Kyle jumped off and waved at Charles, who responded with a hoot. Kyle ran and opened the door and entered the house but then he fell on the group. He grunted in pain and cursed under his breath and turned around to see what he tripped on. He saw a duffle bag on the way. "Mom! Who's back is this?" He shouted as he made his way to the living room. But all his anger subsided when he saw her. "Yeah, it's mine. So?" Lorelei asked, her arms crossed. Kyle couldn't say anything, he froze on the spot, muscles tensed. "It's rude to keep quiet when asked a question," his dad said. Kyle turned to see his dad sitting next to the fireplace sipping on his coffee reading the newspaper this late. Maybe trying to catch up on the latest news that happened while he was gone. Kyle shook his head and said nothing. "Aren't you glad Lorelei's back, honey?" His mom smiled ear to ear, clearly evident that she's the one who's excited to see Lorelei. Kyle just gave a lopsided smile and nodded. He should be happy, right? It's been a while since he'd spoke to her and this was his chance to. He could catch her up on the things she's missed and she could possibly do the same. But he didn't feel right. He felt like puking on the spot. "Well, I'm beat. I'll go upstairs and get a shower and sleep," he said. He didn't even wait for anyone to say anything else as he ran to his room. Kyle has been having a lot going through his mind and having Lorelei back wasn't helping him at all. He sighed as he started to take his clothes off. He had his boxers on only. As he was about to take those off, someone burst open the door. "Hey I-," Lorelei's eyes widened as she slammed the door closed. "What were you doing here?" Kyle shouted through the door. "Checking up on you, idiot!" she replied, her voice cracking clearly embarassed. Kyle, yet again, froze. She cared about him? "Well I'm fine," he said. "Well I can see that," she said. He smirked wanting to you with her. "You know, that can be interpreted in many ways," he said. "Don't make me come in there and kick you in the place the sun doesn't shine." Kyle then heard footsteps fading away. With the million of thoughts swarming in his head, one thing was certain. He didn't mind having Lorelei here with him again.
Stevenson's POV
'But that's strange,' Detective Stevenson thought. There was no specific evident that pointed to Lucinda killing Malcolm. Sure the story was believable but it still wasn't adding up. And it was odd how a day after Malcolm was murder, one of his friends was hit at the back of the head with a shovel and they just dismissed that case because they couldn't find any clues to pin to the murderer. Stevenson couldn't go on court with no proof whatsoever. The case would be all for nothing. He was the best detective in town after all and he couldn't loose that. He stretched his arms and rested on his chair, rubbing his temples. He's haven't had a good night's sleep. And after Malcolm's murder, there have been a lot of weird cases coming in. Like how Mr Cohen went missing for weeks but he came back like nothing happened. And Elizabeth acted strange. One minute she was the worried wife, who wanted to find her husband, very shaken about the news and the next it was like she flipped a switch in her mind and everything was back to normal like nothing happened. Detective Stevenson hated how he couldn't pinpoint the link between all this things happening and why. But he knew that wherever Malcolm's killer is, they might be on to something. And he wants to be the one that arrests them when he finds them and brings then to justice.
Lorelei's POV
Lorelei laid on her bed, feeling a bit glad she was back. But she felt like she missed being with Skye, but not the kids. They were noisy and messy but she could at least tolerate them. Lorelei has met a lot of people before but the relationship she had with Skye was different. Different from the one she has with Krystal, Kyle, Elizabeth even Scott. It felt... warm. Loving. She shaked out of her thoughts. She didn't want to be caught up in all of that. But there was a thought lingering in her mind for a while now. She got out of bed and walked downstairs in attempt to find Elizabeth. She found her in the kitchen washing the dishes. Funny, Lorelei didn't remember eating dinner. She walked up towards her and tapped her shoulder. Elizabeth stiffened up then turned to face Lorelei and she smiled. "Hi darling," she said. Lorelei just smiled in response. "Can I ask you a question?" She asked and Elizabeth nodded. "So remember when you touched my wooden box and saw some things in there?" Lorelei asked. Elizabeth stayed silent for a minute then said, "I honestly didn't see much actually." Lorelei knew she was lying but continued. "I think you mentioned something about my parents. Did you happen to know them?" Lorelei asked. Elizabeth looked at her wide-eyed. Lorelei wouldn't blame her. Even she was shocked that she brought up the topic about her parents in the first time in years to someone who wasn't grandma Lucinda. She has been curious about them and Lucinda would always say she would meet them some day and they'll welcome her with warm arms. Well she didn't see that happening anytime soon. "Well your mother looked familiar," she said, not meeting Lorelei's gaze. "And?" Lorelei did a gesture for her to continue. "And nothing else. She just had a familiar friendly face," Elizabeth's tone was monotonous. That was the first time Elizabeth never seemed bubbly. Lorelei decided not to push on any further and just nodded. "Thank you Mrs- Elizabeth," she said warmly. She gotten good at acting these days. Elizabeth looked at her and smiled. And Lorelei decided to engulf her in a hug. Elizabeth was surprised for a second but hugged her back. The hug lasted for a while and they broke apart. "Goodnight," Lorelei waved as she exited the kitchen and Elizabeth waved back. 'Guess I'll have to find out for myself,' Lorelei said as she walked upstairs.
Thursday morning
Lorelei woke up, rubbing the sleep out her eyes. She had a very good night's sleep. She looked at the time and saw that it was still 5:00. Luckily on that day, Lorelei didn't have to go to school because there was something about some parent meeting you going on. She actually couldn't careless what was going on. Even though it was still quite early, she got out of bed and decided to start packing her stuff into her drawers and closet. She opened her duffle bag and started taking out her clothes and packing then neatly. While she was doing so, she saw the wooden box she's been carrying with her for a while now. She took it out and opened it, reading the letter her "dad" write to her grandfa- Malcom. The letter was heartwarming and Damon used kind and sweet words. She still asks herself why did they leave her with a monster when they loved her? Surely the issues could've been resolved somehow. She looked at her duffle bag again and saw some things in there she didn't notice before. She turned the bag upside down to empty out its contents. Pieces of papers came falling down onto the floor. Some torn and some crumpled up. She crouched down and picked up the papers. She covered her mouth as she saw what they were. They were her old drawings she used to draw when she used to live in the forest either Malcolm and grandma Lucinda. She remembered she used to use drawing as an outlet for her stress and pain and the evidence was in the pictures she drew and paintings she painted. There was one with a little girl hugging an older woman as the sun sets behind them, in a field of dandelions and the wind blowing. That was her vision of how her reunion with her mother would be like. She chuckled at the exaggeration of it all but it gave her hope at that age. How she would get away with Grandma Lucinda from Malcolm. She was once heard that her dad was an excellent man. Her Grandma would always say when she's helping her with homework. "If only your dad was here to help you," she would say. She also wondered where was he. She quickly picked them up. She tossed the torn ones on her desk, to try and piece them back together while she hung the other ones. After she was done, she took a step back and looked at her heart, all her emotions poured into the pictures. The only way she could actually express her emotions. And they all tell a story. The story of a broken young girl.
After she was done with packing, she took a quick cold shower and got dressed before heading downstairs. "You're up early," she turned around and saw Kyle sitting on the dining chair eating a bag of chips while on his phone. "Well that's not a healthy breakfast. And I could say the same thing to you," Lorelei opened the fridge to grab an apple. "Funny. You don't even bother eating at all. Also, I'm busy with stuff," he said, putting so much emphasis on 'stuff'. Lorelei rolled her eyes. "Suurree. Very important stuff to keep you up," she retorted sarcastically. "So have any plans today?" Kyle asked as he set aside his phone. "Why? Want to tag along?" She asked. Kyle just shrugged. "Well I do. It's Thursday remember," she said. She glanced at Kyle as saw he was confused. "I'm going to go babysit Bella," she said, to clear up his confusion. "You still do that? I thought it was going to be a one time thing,* he rolled his eyes. Lorelei didn't like kids but she tolerated Bella like how she tolerated the twins. "And I think you should tag along. Bella has taken a liking to you," she smirked. "Jealous?" Kyle wiggled his eyebrows. Lorelei flicked his forehead. "And I don't want to go. That Bella kid uses my arms as monkey bars," he whined. "Oh stop being a baby and get ready. We'll be leaving soon," she said as she made her way to the living room to wait for Kyle to get ready.
"Lorrryyy!" Bella ran up to her to hug her. Lorelei picked her up and embraced her. "Hey there Bells," she greeted. "Bells?" Kyle raised a brow at her. "Keith!" Bella screeched. Lorelei held back a laugh. "Yeah yeah. Hi to you too," Kyle took her from Lorelei but it was a mistake because she instantly started pulling my hair. "Ow!" he winced in pain. "Thank you so much for coming over," Cassandra hugged her. "And you just missed Scott. He left a few minutes ago," she said. Lorelei felt her heart drop, feeling a bit disappointed. "Oh, it's fine. We came here for her." She gently pinched Bella's cheek and she giggled. "Well I'll get going. Bye bye!" She waved at them and they waved back. Bella started pulling Kyle's cheek. "I think we should go to the park! It's a beautiful sunny day outside," he exclaimed. Bella squealed in his arms. Lorelei chuckled a nodded. "Okay, let me go get Bella ready." Kyle handed her to Lorelei and she went to Bella's room to look for a nice dress to wear.
"Her Lorry!" Bella called out. "Yeah?" Lorelei was searching through her clothes. They were very brightly coloured. She tried finding something that wouldn't make Bella stand out. And in other words, something that wasn't hideous. She made a mental note to get her new clothes the next time she visits. "You're not going to leave Scotty, right?" she asked, almost in a whisper. Lorelei stopped at looked at her. Bella looked very sad at the thought she had clouding her tiny mind. Lorelei couldn't find the words to form a proper sentence. "What makes you say that?" She crouched down to Bella's level. "Well I can't say," she lowered her head. Lorelei placed a finger her chin and lifted her head and made her look at her. "Bella, tell me," she asked but it almost sounded like a command. "There's this girl who's been coming here when mommy leaves," she started explaining. Lorelei wanted to wait for her to finish. "And I saw then kiss one day but friends do that, right?" she asked. Lorelei saw she was trying to make the situation a bit better with humour. For a kid her age, she sure can have a mature mindset. Even more mature than Kyle. "And he went with her even today," she continued. Lorelei still didn't say anything while Bella was explaining. She could hear Bella but at the same time, it felt like her words were being whispered into her ear. She stood still not moving a muscle. Her whole body tensed. She didn't know what to feel. Anger? Sadness? Resentment? Her vision started to get clouded. All she saw was red. She tried talking herself out of it. Maybe Bella doesn't know what she was talking about. There must have been a good explanation to all of it. The other half of her knows better than that. Then all of a sudden, she heard sniffles. She snapped back into reality and noticed Bella was crying. She noticed the hand she was using to hold her face was wet with her tears. "Bells no no no! Don't cry okay? Maybe there's a good reason behind it all. I'm sure we can resolve everything, okay?" She tried cheering her up. Yet she knew she couldn't promise anything if she finds out what Bella said was true. Bella nodded and wiped her tears. "See? You're much more prettier when you're not crying. Actually, I'm lying. You still look adorable with you teary eyes." She wiped the tears away for her and Bella started giggling. "How about we go get us some ice cream, yeah? You'd like that won't you?" Bella nodded. "Good. Let's find you a pretty dress to wear while we're out," Lorelei smiled causing Bella to smile as well. Bella quickly hugged her and whispered, "I prefer you to the way."
"Took you long enough. I called Charles to take us out. He's waiting outside," Kyle said as he said the girls approaching. "Oh. You can have a heart at times," Lorelei joked. Bells looked up at Lorelei and tugged at Kyle's shirt. "Of course he has a heart. If he didn't he'd be dead," she pouted. Kyle bent down to pick her up. "I'll take that as a compliment from you," he said and Bella giggled. "Let's get going," he said and Lorelei followed behind him. Charles was waiting outside, just as Kyle said he was. Lorelei locked the door and went to get in the SUV. Kyle had Bella on her lap and she rested her head on his chest. Lorelei sat in her seat and closed her eyes and did her breathing exercises. "Hey, you good?" Kyle asked. Without opening her eyes, Lorelei nodded. She was actually having a debate with her mind. And she could hear the words being repeated over and over, 'I told you so.'
Once they arrived at the park, the first got ice cream as Lorelei promised and ,of course, make Kyle pay for it. After that, they walked around and played a few games here and there. Until they all got there and decided to relax by the pond. Kyle excused himself to the loo while Lorelei sat with Bella. This was one of the few times she ever relaxed. She had to thank Kyle for suggesting this idea. "Oh," she heard Bella say. She looked at her and shrugged. "I think that's Scotty," she pointed at a couple walking by, holding each other's hands. When she looked closely, her heart shattered into a million pieces. It was Scott. So what Bella told was...true. She gritted her teeth and stood up. "We have to get going," she said. "Awww. Okay." Bells might've sensed something because she didn't make a fuss about leaving. When Kyle came back, he saw Lorelei marching his way. "Take Bells home, please. Something came up and I have to attend to it. I promise I'll owe you one," she explained. Kyle looked at the tired Bella and nodded. "Sure thing. Make sure you come back," he picked up Bella and she place her head on his shoulder and closed her eyes. Lorelei smiled at the sight and nodded at Kyle. "Thanks." And with that, she turned and walked away from them.
GORE UP AHEAD!
At this point, Lorelei was on a mission for blood. She couldn't believe she opened her heart just for that person t tear it to pieces. She found a baseball bat near the playground area and picked it up. What better weapon to use anyway? It was starting to get dark and most people were starting to leave. She found Scott sitting by the lake by himself. She hid the bad behind her back and made her way to him. She lightly tapped on his shoulder and turned around. And when he saw her, he had a huge smile on his face. "Hi Lorelei! Oh darling, it's been a while with all the studies and such," he explained. Looking at him made her heart ache. Tears started to form in her eyes, tears she's been fighting back when she was with Bella. "Princess what's wrong?" he asked, getting worried. "Why'd you lie to me Scott?" she asked, her voice cracking. "What do you mean?" he asked. "Are you cheating on me?" She asked. Scott's eyes widened at the question. "N-no I would n-never," he stuttered. "Then why are you stuttering?" She asked as she pulled out the baseball bat. "What's that for? Actually forget that. Why would you even think I would cheat on you? Don't you trust me?" He asked, visibly afraid. "I used to. There's no point in lying to me!" She raised her voice. Scott sighed. "Fine. I did but it was a mistake. You never gave me attention and I found I else where. I'm sorry." He said. Lorelei couldn't believe it. Never gave him attention? All those messages and calls to check up on him meant nothing? All those little updates meant nothing to him at all? "Scott, who's this?" A girl popped besides him, looking very annoyed at her. "She's uhmm...," He looked at her and back at the girl. Lorelei just stood there and started laughing. She couldn't do anything else but laugh. "What are you laughing at? Scott we have to go," she started to pull Scott's arm. But before he could move, fast as a flash, Lorelei swung her bat as hard as she can to his head and he fell down unconscious. The girl was about to scream but Lorelei yanked her hair and grabbed her face, making contact with her knee really hard. She felt her nose break. She swung her bat at her as well. Both of them were lying on the ground. She looked around and saw no one. 'Might as well finish the job,' the voice in her head whispered. She swung the bat high up and it came crushing down on Scott's skull. She did that repeatedly, letting all of the anger and pain out. Blood was starting to pool out, sinking in the ground. She did the same thing to the bitch lying next to Scott. Once she was done, she laughed again. You couldn't even tell their faces. Why was she laughing? Did she find the thought of all of this funny? Was it a way for her to release all the pain she's been feeling? She didn't know but she enjoyed. She aggressively started kicking Scott's corpse. Even though there was no point in doing that but she felt like doing it for the last time. She looked around and and saw a few row boats by the lake. She then dragged the bodies and tossed them into the boats. She took a few heavy rocks and dumped them in too. She did want the boat to be too heavy. She pushed it into the water and started rowing far away from land. She rowed and rowed until her arms grew tired. She saw that she has gone far enough. She then tied the bodies with the pieces of rope she found on the boat. She tossed out the girl's body first then she looked at Scott's. She let a piercing cry first before kissing his bloody lips and saying, "Goodby, love." And she pushed him off, watching his body sink in the water. She also tossed the bat and started rowing back to land.
She looked at herself and saw that her clothes were very bloody. She looked around and found nothing. She walked around until she found a few closed stalls that she passed by earlier that sold clothes. She went to open the door but it was locked. She mentally slapped herself before kicking down the door. There were a variety of clothes there. She took the pair of jeans and a black hoodie. She quickly took off her bloody clothes and put on the clothes. She walked out with her blood clothes in a plastic bag. As she walked, she saw a jogger and she greeted her before going on her way. She knew she had to burn the clothes before anyone else notices. She went by the lake again and grabbed a few pieces of sticks and a string. She started a fire like how she was taught in summer camp when she was younger. She never knew it would come in handy. And when the flames appeared. She tried making them bigger and tossed her clothes in the flames and waited for them to burn before leaving. It took a while but the evidence was gone. She extinguished the fire and made her way home.
She arrived very late at home. But luckily for her, Elizabeth and Mr Cohen were still not home which was a bit odd. Kyle left a little note for her.
Went out with Mark. Tried calling you but you didn't pick up and "Bells" is fine with her mom but she was worried for you.
~Kyle
She folded the piece of paper and walked upstairs to her room and locked herself there.
