August's POV

I'm lying on a beanbag in the Manhattan Base. We really need a better name! Peter's here, along with MJ, Ned and Abigail. It's amazing how the only people who truly show me I'm worth anything all are friends with one another. Peter's friends were close with each other first, but when I snuck in here six months ago Abigail became their friend too. Now they're all together to protect an idiot. That idiot being me. 

"Right... so you're literally texting her, talking to her, and also are technically tasked with capturing her? How's it going, Webs?" The sass of Abigail could never get less amusing, but unfortunately she's not wrong here.

Peter rubs the back of his neck, and looks away. His voice goes higher as he says, "Completely ignore it?"

"How about help me get Black Widow alone, and tell me where they're going and shit? So I can get her alone and kill her?" I'm pretty sure I said that way too casual but who cares?

"What the fuck, August!?" Ned practically screeches. "We are not killing anyone! Especially not Black Widow! You don't even have a chance of killing her!"

Wow, way to be supportive, Ned.

"Ned, I'm a trained killer who's only been on my own for what, eight months? But before that MIA on SHIELD's naughty list for sixteen months? I have a chance!" Do I?

"Egoistic." MJ mumbles.

"Shut up, it's not like you aren't!"

"Am I?"

I roll my eyes, sighing. "Peter, please!"

Peter shoots me a literal death glare. "I'll keep your secret, but I'm not helping you murder my friend! I'm FRIENDLY Neighborhood Spider-Man. I avoid violence, and especially killing!"

"Fine," I groan as I eerily step forwards to him. I stand on the tips of my toes right in front of his face. "But if you tell them you know me I will torture you in every single way I know you hate. And when they find the body there'll be a suicide note written in your name."

"Damn, babes, and I thought I was dark." As I look at my... friend? Complicated relationship friend person, I see her bite her lip, holding back a smile. I don't know how she finds this amusing.

"Shut it, Abby. I'm not being caught by anymore spy organizations. It's not worth it."

She rolls her eyes in response. It's a joke, obviously, but she doesn't know the meaning of staying clear of manipulative teams.

So we talk some more. About whatever. Video games are played, as well as board games and snapchat Bitmoji whatever. We played our version of karaoke. Singing while dancing- second you stop dancing you're out. 

And then, it was time for everyone to leave. And for myself to be alone again.

I don't mind the quiet. I mind the thoughts that come with it. The memories, flashbacks, nightmares and all of that shit. But even being the only one in the room is hard to come by.

The last moments before the inevitable goodbye is spent with Ned scrolling through on his laptop for new missions or alerts Peter and I should be aware about. Usually there's something small I can do to help. Maybe my morals align more with the Avengers, but I protect the innocents at whatever cost. They don't. 

"Fuck." Ned mumbles.

"What?" I ask, my eyebrows furrowing as I stare at his pursed lips and wide eyes.

Abigail groans as she looks at the screen. "It's fucking Hydra again."

"Oh, what this time?"

Ned's head gets a little closer to the screen. "Targeted attack towards Avengers Compound." 

Perfect distraction. Kill Tasha and get out.

"We should help? Maybe it could prove to the Avengers I'm safe?"

Lies. I lock eyes with Abigail who gives me a questionable glance. I stare through her, a threat.

"And you promise not to kill anyone?" Peter questions, not buying my 'change of heart'. "Don't even kill Hydra agents if you can help it

Hydra agents deserve it.

"Yes, I promise, Pete. No killing! Especially the good guys!"

Good guys is a relative term.

Ned smiles. "Great! They're planning to be in at eleven. We'll be back at around seven AM tomorrow."

"Alright, that works." Abigail says, walking out before we could say anything more.
