Emmica Bennett has a secret. She sneaks out at night to serve justice to innocent civilians in need and assist the local and completely incompetent law enforcement in successfully besting criminals. Of course, now she's too tired to make up an excuse for why she didn't finish her algebra homework.

Kailani Cabrera is determined to get to the bottom of it. Except the knowledge won't do her any good if she can't get anyone else to listen to her. Perhaps she shouldn't have been so insincere in the first place.

Meanwhile, the city of Malcolm faces threats that seem to be quickly escalating. A masked figure lurks in the shadows and a flashy villain wreaks havoc in supermarkets and dog parks. Although Kailani is trying to push the uber-cool name of Epigone, the city's real reporters take the far less imaginative route of Copycat. Emmica doesn't get a say in the matter because she doesn't want to spoil the secret, but it's getting increasingly difficult now that reporters have caught wind of her intentions and her alter-ego is being shoved into the spotlight.

If this is a superhero story, then where's the one that comes to save the day? And why does the bad guy insist on delivering all messages via song and dance number? The villain doesn't know why he does what he does. The hero is always late, rubbish at her job, and really unprepared. Kailani can't figure out where on God's green earth her Biology partner runs off to after class every day.

So maybe there's a little more to it, and maybe two girls will learn how to spread and pursue happiness.

Or maybe they'll kill each other trying.
