Chapter 6: Gitana Mia, Gitana Bella

"A medium works with many spirits but as I said there is always one principal spirit that guides and controls the others. My principal is Negro Juanito, this is his public name, the name others may know, he has a secret name known only to me. That is the name that I whisper in my prayers and the name I call on in emergencies. He never fails to answer that name even if he is on the other side of the world." Milo said smiling at Adriana.

"Do all muertos have secret names? Do you give it to them or do they choose it, how do they get?" Adriana was excited, the questions were pouring out of her.

Milo laughed at her enthusiasm. "Yes all the dead have secret names. We do not give it to them, they share their secret names with us when they have developed a relationship of trust. A secret name is a word of power, it embodies the essence of the one who bears it."

Milo took a moment and closed his eyes. Adriana looked closely and saw a form taking shape over Milo's left shoulder. As it became clearer, she saw it was the African warrior whose statue stood next to Milo's altar. El Negro Juanito.

"Hello, old man." Milo said smiling, his eyes still closed. "Can you open the gate for Estrella Del Monte?"

Of course caballito, she has been called.

Adriana shivered as she heard the deep bass voice of El Negro Jaunito. As she continued to watch, she heard the faint sound of castanets and then suddenly there was a beautiful gyspy dancer standing on Milo's right. She touched Milo on his shoulder and then slowly stroked the back of his neck. Adriana could feel the spiritual energy in the room, it was electric.

Suddenly the Gyspsy vanished from sight leaving only El Negro Juanito standing watchfully at Milo's left shoulder. Adriana was startled at her quick disappearance, but before she could ask, Milo's eyes opened. Adriana could see that his pupils were enlarged. Suddenly Milo laughed but the laugh was feminine sounding.

"Hola, Adrianita, this one is very happy to meet you?" Milo extended his hand palm down to for Adriana to take and shake in greeting.

"Errr, Hello, who are you?" Adriana said quietly.

"This one is Estrella Del Monte." Adriana watched as Milo stood up. He raised his hands and began to dance the flamenco, the moves sensuous and sultry, his head tilted to the side as if listening to music only he could hear.

"Can you not hear the music, come give in to the dance." Adriana took the offered hand and stood up. It was strange seeing Milo's body but realizing that the personality that inhabited it wasn't Milo's at the moment. Estrella Del Monte began to lead Adriana in the dance, as she concentrated she began to hear music, she felt it heat her blood.

She gave herself to the music. As she danced she felt her feet pick up the steps as if she had danced the Flamenco a hundred times before. Suddenly she felt flushed as if she had a fever, just as quickly this passed and she felt chilled as if someone had dumped a bucket of iced cold water on her.

"Give in to her, she just wants to say hello and dance with you. " Estrella Del Monte said through Milo.

"Who?" Adriana said confused and feeling a little dizzy.

"Your Gitana." Estrelle Del Monte began to sing using Milo's beautiful tenor voice.

"Gitana, Gitana, Gitana Mia. Gitana, Gitana, Gitana Bella." (Gypsy, Gypsy, My Gypsy , Gypsy, Gypsy Beautiful Gypsy)

As Adriana heard the words she felt dizzy as if the floor had dropped out from under her feet, she felt as if she was falling into a deep dark hole.

"Adriana, Adriana." Milo was standing over her, he cupped his hands and blew into her ears with a strong breath, first into the right and then into the left. He then put his hands on each of her shoulders and pushed down firmly. Taking her hands he lifted them quickly and then brought them back down to her sides, shaking her gently.

"I'm ok. I'm ok. what happened. Where's Estrella Del Monte." Adriana said softly.

"She is gone. El Negro Juanito asked her to leave when your gypsy took possession of you. He felt that it would be better if I was back in control while you underwent your first possession." Milo sat back down on the other side of his consulting table.

"My first possession? I only remember dancing and then getting dizzy." Adriana looked at her watch 2 hours had passed and she had no recollection of where the time had gone.

"Estrella Del Monte saw that you had a Gypsy spirit in your spiritual court and she decided to invite her out for a dance." Milo said softly.

"I have a gypsy spirit?" Adrianna said in disbelief.

"Yes, and she is very old, even older then Estrella Del Monte and quite powerful. Tell me have you ever tried reading cards?"

"I have a deck of antique spanish playing cards that I found at an estate sale at the last post my father was stationed at. I just felt drawn to them and I begged my mother to get them for me."

"Well next lesson, bring them with you, lets see what your gypsy can do." Milo said standing up. He looked at his watch, 4:15, he would have just enough time to walk Adriana back to the front of the house for her father to pick her up.

Milo and Adriana had just reached the front yard when Colonel Santana pulled up in his SUV. He got out and came around the car. Adriana ran up to him and hugged him.

"Hola Drinita, how was your first lesson?" Colonel Santana said smiling.

"I met Milo's gypsy and that is about all I remember." Adriana said excitedly.

"Your daughter is a natural, she just experienced her first trance possession. Usually it takes a bit longer for the medium to learn to trust the muertos." Milo said smiling.

"Really, was she safe?" Colonel Santana said concerned.

"Colonel Santana, she was in good hands and the property is protected on all sides. You do not have to worry I would never let anything happen to Adriana." Milo said looking at the girl.

"Thank you Milo for everything." Colonel Santana put out his hand and Milo shook it.

"Next saturday, same time?" Milo said looking at Adriana.

"Yes sure, is it ok papa?" Adriana sat looking at her father.

"Absolutely mija, come on, your mama is making Bacalao for dinner so we better get home."

Colonel Santana opened the car door for his daughter, Adriana hopped in and began to fasten her seatbelet. Colonel Santana walked around the car and got in.

"Bye Milo." Adriana said out the window, waving energetically.

"Bye Adriana, see you in school." Milo said watching the SUV pull away.
