Chapter 18: Dreamscape
The dreamworld was a desolate place, frozen in time. The blood-red sun hung eternally in the sky, casting an eerie glow over the barren landscape. Dead trees stood like twisted sentinels, their gnarled branches reaching towards the heavens. Sharp rocks jutted out from the ground, creating a treacherous terrain that seemed to go on forever. It was a world devoid of life, a never-ending wasteland of emptiness and despair.
As they continued to walk they noticed others walking aimlessly shrouded in black ragged cloaks, their shoulders stooped and their eyes focused on the barren ground. Every now and then shrieks and howls would utter from their mouths. Jose trembled at Milo's side as he watched them.
"Do not fear querido, these are the souls of the unrepentent dead, they wander here seeking prayers from their loved ones on earth so that they may receive light and evolve. They will not hurt us." Milo smiled reassuringly at Jose. Jose nodded and kept walking, he held Milo's hand even more tightly.
As they walked suddenly a few of the lost souls began to notice them and began to shuffle towards them moaning and howling loudly. Piyelito growled softly and the sound was like thunder. Milo looked down at the little dog. Suddenly Piyelito lunged forward placing himself between Milo and Jose and the lost souls. He began to grow until he was full size, his eyes glowing red flames and a collar of human skulls around his neck.
"Milo, this is what I saw in my dream." Jose said pointing at Piyelito.
"Opiyelguabiran." Milo whispered softly. The dog turned at the sound of his name and looked at Milo and Jose.
You have been here too long, the spirits of the dead have become restless. It is time for you to return to the land of the living.
The words rang in Jose and Milo's minds, and Opiyelguabiran abruptly turned around and let out a deafening howl that shook the ground. Jose and Milo instinctively covered their ears with their hands to protect them from the powerful sound.

Milo sat up in the bed suddenly and looked over at Jose who had also jumped up. Piyelito sat between them looking at them both.
Jose looked down at the little dog and then looked at Milo.
"Milo, did we dream the same dream? Did Piyelito speak to us in the spirit world?" Jose said looking at Milo.
"I'm not sure what happened querido but that was no normal dream." Milo said getting up and walking to the window. He was troubled by what had happened but he didn't want to scare Jose. The appearance of Opiyelguabiran meant that the divine spark was very close and he wasn't sure why the divine companion of Maquetuarie has chosen to appear on earth as a puppy and attach itself to Jose.
Jose looked over at Milo as he was standing by the window in the pre-dawn light. He thought he could make out the outline of a man standing next to Milo. It was faint but Jose could see that Milo was nodding his head as she stood there looking out the window.
"Mi amor, who are you speaking to?" Jose said quietly. The silhouette turned and looked in Jose' direction just as Milo glanced back startled.
"Querido, what do you mean?"
"I can see the faint outline of a man standing next to you and I can hear a faint whisper, but I can not make out the words. "
It seems that the young master can see me.
"I was speaking to El Negro Juanito about our dream. Can you really see him?" Milo said sitting down on the edge of the bed.
"It's hard to perceive, almost like an after-image that appears when you take a photo with a flash."
"Jose, can you do me a favor and call for your guides?"
"Milo, is there something wrong?" Jose said reaching for Milo's hand.
"No querido, more like an experiment. Can you call them, do remember their true names?"
Jose closed his eyes for a moment, it seemed he was thinking and then suddenly the gyspy prince and Campanita De Plata were standing by the bedside. Jose opened his eyes and looked at the 2.
"Milo, am I really seeing them?" Jose gestured at the two gypsies that had appeared by Jose' side.
"Yes, querido, you are. It seems you have developed the sight. Can you see el Negro Juanito?" Milo said still holding Jose' hand. Jose concentrated and looked over Milo's left shoulder to where he had seen the faint afterimage. He concentrated for a moment and suddenly he saw the tall African warrior standing behind Milo.
"Milo, you never told me he was so big and fierce looking." Jose said looking up at the African warrior.
It seems the young master has gained the sight.
"And such a deep voice, it is like the rumbling of an avalanche." Jose said placing his hands over his ears. Milo laughed at Jose' reaction.
"It will take some time querido but you will get used to it." Milo reached over and took Jose' hands from his ears. "Covering your ears wont help, you are hearing his voice in your mind not as a sound picked up by your ears." Milo smiled gently at Jose.
Jose looked up at El Negro Juanito. "Could you speak softer till I get used to it?" The African warrior smiled and nodded his head. Campanita and the gypsy prince smilled at Jose.
We will try to speak softly as well, caballito. Campanita said as she looked down at Jose.
Milo reached over and pulled Jose into a hug. "I know this is a lot querido, but I will be with you every step of the way." Milo looked out the window and saw the purple pink color of the sky which signaled that dawn was approaching. "Ok querido, I need to go take care of my chores before we go to school, want to help?" Jose nodded. "Well come on then, get a move on." Milo said going to his dresser and grabbing an old t shirt and a pair of overalls. He tossed them to Jose as he looked for something for himself to wear.
