XXI.
A hum of a melody Lisa had heard a couple of days ago left through her lips as she rummaged through her bag, looking for the phone she had carelessly thrown in.
She was on her way to Bambam's home, to discuss his plan to propose to Mina. Lalisa was quite excited, and she knew her cousin was, too. His replies through text came faster and he responded with more happy emojis, a clear indication of his enthusiasm.
Finding her phone, she quickly typed out a message to her cousin about how she was on her way. Then, she proceeded to make her way to the door, too distracted with slinging her bag over her shoulder and slipping on her shoes to notice the male by the doorway of their kitchen, watching her curiously.
"Lisa? Where are you going?"
Jungkook's voice stopped Lisa dead in her task, and with one shoe dangling off her foot, she spinned around and gave him an unsure smile.
"Off to Bambam's to, uh, help him plan his proposal to Mina. Why?"
He nodded, a smile sliding onto his face as he crossed his arms. "Could I come?"
Lalisa blinked. Out of all the things she had been expecting for him to say, this was not one of them.
Noticing her hesitation, Jungkook's face fell slightly and Lisa could see him struggle to nod in understanding.
"It's fine, I know I'm not close with the—"
"You can come," Lisa's voice came rushing out of her before she even knew what she was saying and she only realized seeing the sparkle in his eyes as he nodded excitedly.
"Okay! I'll just go and get ready quickly then." Jungkook shot her a grateful smile and jogged into their bedroom, probably to pick an outfit.
Lisa groaned, pulling on her shoe and waiting patiently for him to return. She didn't know why she had allowed him to follow her, but she assumed it was the small surge of sympathy she felt for him after seeing the look on his face when she displayed hesitation at his words.
In a couple of minutes, Jungkook was out, wearing a simple pair of jeans and a shirt, but he still looked very handsome. Lisa struggled to pull her eyes away and could feel a blush creeping up on her cheeks.
She turned away, biting her lip in uncertainty. "Uh, let's go."
Jungkook nodded excitedly, putting a hand on Lalisa's back as he quickly pushed the two of them out of their home. She irritatedly huffed at him, but she actually enjoyed the casualness he was showing her.
Locking the door, Lisa turned to smile at Jungkook, and the two made their way down to her car.
As she prepared to get into the driver's seat, Jungkook surprised her by grabbing her keys, offering her a reassuring look, and plopping himself in the driver's seat. Although she was confused on whether it was a gesture of kindness or an attempt of murder, she merely nodded and took up the seat next to him, asking him if he knew where Bambam and Mina's home was. He shook his head yes and thus began their journey to Lisa's cousin's house.
The ride to Bambam and Mina's home was relatively quiet, until Jungkook spoke up, one hand on his own thigh and one on the wheel as his eyes quickly flitted over to hers for a moment before returning his gaze to the road.
"How are your classes?"
Lisa felt surprised at his genuinely concerned tone. "They're going alright. Your work?"
Jungkook strummed his fingers on his thigh with a small smile. "That's nice to hear. My work is going fine."
Lalisa merely nodded, narrowing her eyes in suspicion of his behavior. He seemed at ease and wasn't troubled, so she mused that he really did not have bad intentions.
She felt bad for doubting him, but after all he did to her, did he really expect everything to drop back to normal as if nothing happened?
"Have you ate?" Jungkook's voice again broke her out of her thoughts.
"Uh, not really?" It was true. She hadn't ate all day besides hydrating with a cup of water in the morning.
Lisa turned her head to examine Jungkook's expression. His forehead was ceased and he looked disturbed knowing that she hadn't ate anything.
"Lili, I love you but you need to eat. Not eating can get you sick, love," Jungkook said, turning the wheel.
"Since when do you care?" Lisa retorted. She felt frustrated and angry at his reprimanding because he was right. "You're always off with Sana, so how would you know?"
This quickly shut Jungkook up, and Lisa felt a small sliver of satisfaction to be receiving the last word. She also felt a bit hurt that he did not even attempt to converse and defend himself, immediately proving her point.
The rest of the drive passed by in silence, and she felt content as her eyelids fluttered close and her breathing steadied as she fell asleep.
Reason #21: He pretends to care.
