XVIII.
The next morning, Lalisa decided to take a brisk walk in the dewy morning air, and with her small bottle of water, she set off, her legs walking at a rapid rate.
Yesterday had been an undeniably good day, but Lisa had ruined it at the end with her overthinking. Lalisa didn't want to ruin a potentially nice day, so she tried to refrain her thoughts from prying about Jungkook.
That morning, as usual, Jungkook has left early, but Lalisa didn't understand why as it was a Saturday.
Maybe work, Lalisa thought, her hands tucked into her jacket pocket.
Lisa could hear the ruffling of her feet against the ground, and when she lifted her gaze off the floor, she spotted Mingyu, who was sitting at a bench, scrolling through the device in his hand.
Lalisa smiled at the coincidence and decided to approach him due to the small trickle of loneliness she felt while walking alone.
"Hi Mingyu! I didn't expect to see you here to be honest."
When Mingyu looked up from his phone, his eyes widened a little bit and then he glanced back quickly at his phone, only to shut it off and give Lisa his full attention.
"Uh- what are you doing here?" His eyes averted side-to-side before grabbing her, pushing her so that her frame was behind an old tree.
Lisa's gaze was full of confusion. "Could you please explain why you shoved me? It was quite rude you kno—"
She interrupted herself with a small gasp, looking at the floor in terror. Right in front of her was a dead snail.
"See?" Mingyu asked, his voice amused. "I tried to stop you from committing a murder, but it appears that it was too late."
Lisa gaped, horror evident in her expression before she closed her mouth, glaring at the attractive male. "You scared me for absolutely no reason!"
"I wouldn't say a murder is no reason," Mingyu replied playfully, his eyebrows wiggling in an attempt to retrieve her previous smile.
It almost worked, and Lisa had a difficult time refraining the corner of her lips from lifting up. She simply sent him a half-hearted glare with a twitching smile, before she realized something.
"Why are you here, by the way?" Lalisa inquired curiously, beginning to follow Mingyu, who had started to stroll through the park with a friendly smile and indicating hand gesture.
"Well, I thought I could use some fresh air. It was quite a hectic day yesterday, my cousin apparently got herself a boyfriend that she wanted my family to meet. He cancelled though, so she was fuming and to be honest, I was feeling bad for the boyfriend rather than her, imagining what she would do to him during the next time they met up."
Lisa laughed, feeling her overwhelming thoughts lift for a bit. It was a nice feeling, and she nodded to Mingyu's words, glancing up to see him staring at her, an unidentifiable emotion in his dark eyes.
"Why are you staring at me like tha—"
Mingyu shushed her, taking a step closer to her with a charming smile. Lisa's breath caught in her throat, wondering if what she thought was going to happen would happen. She felt alarms in her head go off, telling her to step away from the proximity, but shock kept her planted on the cement.
"Lisa, are you dating anyone?"
She desperately wished that something would come out, that her voice would work, but she merely opened her mouth and widened her eyes, not being able to process anything he was saying.
Lalisa saw him lean in slightly, eyes becoming half-lidded, and his intentions became very clear. Finally, as if a switch in her brain had been clicked, she regained her senses and pushed him slightly, cringing at his reaction as she saw his face fall.
"I-I'm sorry, Mingyu. I'm dating someone, and cheating is a no for me," Lisa murmured, embarrassed as her gaze remained on the floor.
When she looked up, Lisa winced as she saw the crestfallen expression on his face, his eyes studying hers. Silence surrounded them for a brief moment, and Mingyu finally took his gaze off of her while nodding.
"I understand," he said somewhat bitterly. "I don't want to interfere in the middle of a relationship."
Lisa nodded, an anxious pit resting in her stomach as a silent tension engulfed them. The two stood awkwardly together for a moment, not knowing what to say, before Mingyu chuckled, the sound causing Lisa to whip her head in his direction.
He seemed to be upset, but he masked it up quickly with a smile.
"I better get going. If you need anything, call me, okay?"
Lisa felt a wave of guilt wash over her and she processed his words. "I-I will, Mingyu. Thank you," she voiced out sincerely, a tinge of sympathy residing in her tone.
Mingyu's lips quirked up, and he waved to her as Lisa quickly spun on her heel and jogged away, hoping to get as far away as possible from him. She felt guilty, for both Jungkook and Mingyu. She not had not only stored hope in Mingyu that she liked him, but all of this happened out of Jungkook's sight.
She gulped as guilt swallowed her whole, because Lisa didn't want to be the reason why two people were upset. Her large strides allowed to arrive to her home faster, and she felt slightly disgusted at herself. What if she didn't push him away? Would she have cheated? Her irritation and self-loathe only bubbled more when she pushed open the doors to the place she called hers and saw Jungkook peacefully swipe through his phone at a secluded area in the apartment. She absolutely despised herself in that moment, knowing she could've hurt him.
She shut the door aggressively behind her, and Jungkook turned his gaze away from his phone and to her. He raised an eyebrow with a smile, differing from his usual mood.
"How was your walk? I know how you always try to stroll at that nearby park," Jungkook reminded her, his ever persistent smile causing the guilt to simmer.
"It was fine," she lied through her teeth with a forced smile. She then proceeded to huff under her breathe and stomp into their bedroom, the look of surprise on Jungkook's face staining her mind.
Lisa's eyes averted to the list on the table next to their bed, and it occurred to her that Jungkook might not only be the problem.
Reason #18: I lied to him (or didn't tell him) about my walk in the park and the almost kiss with Mingyu.
