Gojo POV
I started laughing as soon as those words came out. "Choso...do you really think I would let you stop me?"
"Yes." He crossed his arms. "I may be friends with you, but I owe her my life. She saved me from drowning when we were children, the least I can do is watch out for (nickname). And her sons, I adore them."
"I thought you hated them?"
"Never." Choso opened his phone to show me his lockscreen which was him and his nephews making silly faces in a kids cafe, Choso's hair in his signature pigtails. "Besides...you have no right to go back into her life. Especially after those things you've done."
"Things?" Kechizu looked interested now. "Cho, you only told us of how (nickname) and Satoru broke up. What else happened?"
At his confusion, I started laughing. "So they don't know what I did? And here I thought I was the dirty liar."
"Don't you dare." Choso gave me a warning stare. "You should leave."
"Hmm...nah." I looked Kechizu in the eye. "Do you know what happened two years ago?"
He shrugged. "A lot happens, be more specific."
"Satoru, if you tell him, he will tell (nickname)!!" Choso grabbed my arm and squeezed it. "She must never find out. We both promised to take this to our graves."
"You're equally as guilty, for lying to her face." I looked at Kechizu and Eso who were both getting suspicious and worried what exactly their older brother was guilty of. "At least I didn't lie about how Hajime died."
"What...? They said that it was a hit and run, and Fei died from internal bleeding?" Eso recalled.
"That's not even the tip of the iceberg. It seems your brother hasn't told you how he helped me kill Hajime. Fei was just collateral damage."
(seven years ago)
"A...letter?" I frowned at the contents.
My sister Himari looked up from her breakfast. "Whose it from? The envelope is really fancy. Is it one of our associates?"
The letter dropped from my hands, my breath starting to become ragged. "She's getting married."
"Who?"
"My girl...or ex girlfriend." I picked up the letter and showed Himari.
"Satoru, you haven't been with her for four years. Why do you care so much?"
"This is a wedding invitation. Signed by (y/n) herself."
"Petty. I like it, Picasso." Himari held the letter. "Well I suppose you should go, seeing she invited you."
"But why?" I looked at her socials since I did follow her on a spam account. "There are so many photos of her and that...wait. Sukuna Hajime?"
I thought back to the pink-haired freak that would occasionally tutor her and would give me dirty looks. He was two years our senior and was majoring in astrophysics at the local university though he had recently graduated with high honors.
"So it seems he won in the end." I threw my phone on the couch nearby and collapsed onto it. "From what I remember, he always had a thing for her. Even when her and I were dating, he would still give her longing looks. I had heard from her cousin Choso that he was an honorable man, one worthy of his beloved cousin. Sakuna Hajime was everything I was not, and from I had investigated, he was always there for her."
"You investigated him?"
"For a short while. But he's completely clean. He doesn't come from a rich family like us, his parents own a small tea shop in Okinawa, and they're struggling to get by. They apparently poured majority of their savings into Hajime's education, which is why he went to our high school despite the tuition being extremely high. He stayed with his aunt all throughout college as well before he got his apartment by (y/n)."
Himari sighed. "Satoru, I'm not one to judge your...decisions. But she's happy. Shouldn't that be enough for you? It's been years since you've seen her anyway."
No, it's not. I see her at the park with her friends and sometimes see her at the local CoCost.
"Himari, you don't understand. I fumbled her. I wanted to take over our parents' company until you were ready, just as we agreed. But I had to let her go to deal with that, otherwise she would never get privacy again. She'd be put into the spotlight and probably labeled as a gold digger."
"But you still said those things." Himari gave me a stern glare. "You forget her and I used to be close. She told me everything before she asked me to respectfully keep my distance. I miss her too, Satoru. But sometimes things like this happen for a reason. We cherish the memories but continue on with our lives. It's not up to us to decide how her life goes."
"But it's not fair." I didn't meet her eyes. "I would do anything for her, Himari. I would-" My eyes widened with shock at how much I was about to spill.
I would do anything to get her and everything to keep her. It doesn't matter who gets hurt.
But I knew she was long overdue for happiness, something even I could not deny.
So I watched from afar. I rsvp-ed for the wedding and Hajime asked to meet me.
"You know, she doesn't know I invited you." Hajime started with a calm face. "I figured you'd want to come. You were her first love after all. I don't know what happened to you two, but rest assured I will take care of her. She will be loved and I will give her as children, if any. As many as she wants."
I clenched my fists under the table. "You don't deserve her."
"No, Satoru." He got up. "You had your chance. She is my finance and I will be married to her shortly. You are her past and I am her future. You are still invited to the wedding, only for you to get closure. You never deserved her. She cried over you for so long, and all you cared about was your dick."
She must've told him and Nanamin how I told her 'shit was grippy'.
"I see. Thank you, Sukuna Hajime. I wish you happiness."
The day of the wedding came and she looked gorgeous. Like Heaven itself brought her to the earth to bless mankind. I sat in the back, no one noticing me as they were so busy watching her and Hajime exchange vows. I was not invited to the wedding reception so instead I went to the bar.
"You're gonna get wasted if you keep drinking like that."
I turned my head and saw Toji, my annoying classmate. "Toji."
"Satoru." He sat next to me and studied me for a bit. "You look wasted. Was it Itadori (y/n)'s wedding?"
"How did you know...?"
"Nanami told me. We're still friends, you know. I occasionally go to the gym with him and my cousin Naoya." Toji waved the bartender over. "Give me a Russian and make it extra dry. And a dirty shirley for my buddy here."
"You still know my order?"
"We used to drink together with Choso and get high all the time. Of course I remember." He leaned over. "Using this lighter?"
"All yours." I handed him the thing. "I quit smoking in high school, seems you still do it."
"Not often, just when I really need to blow some steam off. We're both fucked, Satoru. The girl we love just married that nerd."
I looked at him sharply. "You loved her?"
"Still do. I'd see Hajime tutoring her in Physics occasionally at the library and would run into her sometimes if she went to go visit Choso since we didn't go to the same high school."
I nodded. "Want to do something about him then-"
"No." Toji looked at me sternly. "I will not get involved with anything you do, she is finally happy. I can love her from afar, and you should too."
I listened to him ramble on and on, not really caring. But the more I listened to him talking about how he used to like her, the more I realized how badly I was reacting.
"I have to go." I got up abruptly and gave the bartender some money and left. I drove fast, not caring about the speeding limit. Days went by as my feelings turned to anger and...obsession. Choso eventually told Toji and I over a joint how she was expecting.
"Didn't she just get back from her honeymoon?" Toji laughed. "Damn, that was fast. I guess maybe her kid and my kid will be friends."
"You have a kid?"
"Not yet. My wife is expecting, we only found out a while or so ago." Toji passed me the joint. "I'm just telling you now. I also want to inform you that if we do hang out again, I cannot be drinking or smoking. I'm about to become a father, I meed to start getting my shit together before Megumi comes."
"Megumi? Nice name." Choso took a swig of Dack Janiels. "Its a girl, right?"
"No but my wife likes the name. So Megumi it is. Hope the poor scrap doesn't get bullied."
"So (y/n) is expecting." I started laughing. "I see."
Four years later
Choso and I were having another night of drinking and conversation led to our biggest regrets in life as we were driving back in my car.
"Hey, isn't that Sukuna Hajime?" Choso nodded to the car driving behind us about to take a turn onto a street.
I looked in the rear and sure enough, it was. And his sister-in-law Fei was in the front row passenger seat.
"I knew Fei just came back from America, Hajime was probably picking her up from the airport. (y/n) did mention that."
"I don't care." The car jerked to the right and moved towards their car as they were taking the exit.
"Hey-SLOW DOWN!" Choso grabbed the handlebar. "You're going to kill us!!!"
"It's not you I want to kill." The car's engine screamed as I floored it, the car hitting theirs.
What happened next was a blur. Their car soared in the air 5 meters due to the speed and flipped over, the sirens wailing and pedestrians screaming.
Choso immediately got out of the car, me slowly falling behind as I realized what I had done.
He grabbed a body out of the car, screaming at a bystander to call the cops.
"Fuck." I saw Choso dragging Fei out of the car, a huge piece of glass lodged in her neck.
"Fei? Fei! You wake up!" Choso was shaking her desperately.
I looked around at the wreckage and saw Hajime slowly crawling out of the car, but his foot got stuck.
"Shit." He looked around desperately but no one would come, police sirens blaring in the streets nearby. His gaze fell onto me. "Satoru! Help me!"
I looked at him from where he was standing, too shocked to move. Then I took a step forward, only for the sound of an explosion and the sounds of his screams. The car that was flipped went up in smoke, people screaming and moving away. I grabbed Choso but he refused to move.
"Choso! Let's go!"
"But-"
"We have to go! NOW!" I grabbed his arm and dragged him away. The burning car grew further and further away from us.
Due to my family's involvement, fake evidence was planted and labeled as a homicide, suspect on the run. Choso and I both vowed to never tell her, both of us agreeing that we would take it to our graves.
I watched from afar as (y/n) stood in her funeral gown, her head down and I could hear her sobs.
Her two boys were also crying for their deceased father, and (y/n)'s parents were also crying. I watched as they buried her sister Fei first and then Sukuna Hajime.
She must never know the truth.
