Sanctuary (Revived pt.2) 100 Hours AU)

Author's Note: This one is quite a long one. But, I'm happy that I finally got done with it. It's pretty much how I wanted it to come out.

Well, I didn't like how some points of it read, but I can't think of a way to fix 'em. Personally, I don't even want to fix it anymore. I may just mess it up somehow.

 So. Enjoy.

(Two weeks after pt. 1)

 BigB's POV:

It's been a few weeks since I respawned and became stuck in this cursed world. Luckily, there's been quite a few positive things that've happened since that's happened.

 For example:

The cave base that Lizzie, myself, and Scott resided within had evolved from a small and cramped space into a decent sized space. Said space had a working kitchen, a small bathroom, a living room (with a comfy couch for me), and an actual bedroom (Where Lizzie slept).

Scott, meanwhile, still lived within the hole in the wall that he had dug out. Speaking of the owl man himself, he was still fast asleep in the dug out; he'd been asleep for most of the day now.

" Is he okay?" I questioned Lizzie as she came out of the kitchen with a tray of food. Lizzie looked over at the dugout.

" I... He should be? I haven't seen him favoring any specific limb recently." Lizzie tilted her head as she set the tray down.

I frowned and shook my head.

 " Not what I meant." I mumbled, " I meant that he's been sleeping a lot more."

Lizzie tiredly raised an eyebrow. I let out a sigh as my eyebrows narrowed together, " You've known him longer than I have, Lizzie. You must know something, anything, about owl hybrids."

As Lizzie continued to stare at me, I took the moment to take my steak and bread off of the platter. Lizzie shook her head and flinched as her tail swished and brushed against her leg.

" I know.... I know that I should." Lizzie mumbled back, " I just... I'm still at a lost for words at all this, BigB. Which is very much unlike me."

 That's odd.

 I thought to myself.

Lizzie's usually got something to say about everything. Or at least, she may have a joke or small comment to change the subject.

Instead of questioning her, I simply gave her a soft nod. Lizzie nodded back and picked the tray back up. I then watched as she walked over to the dugout.

 Tap

 Tip

 Tap

Lizzie's worn shoes tapped against the cave floor as she walked over to the dugout. Then, the merhybrid's tail swished as she lowered the tray to the ground and cleared her throat.

" S-Scott!" Lizzie called out as she crossed her arms behind her back, " I've got you some raw rabbit!" she forced a smile as her ear fins lowered. After she finished speaking, the hybrid briefly bowed her head before heading back over to me.

Then, the ritual that took over our everyday began:

First, Lizzie grabbed at a wall screen and pulled it until it divided the couch from the dugout.

Next, she would look and me and I'd nod and set my food to the side.

After that, Lizzie would open a small portion of the screen until the two of us could see through.

Within minutes, Scott would climb down from the dugout and began to rip apart the beef and chew on it until it was mush before swallowing and retreating back into his hidey hole.

Today, however,  there was a break in this ritual.

Instead of Scott exiting his dugout and eating his rabbit, then quickly returning to his cave. He did something... new.

At first, the owl hybrid ate his food like normal. However, instead of going back to his cave, he instead walked over to a puddle of water and sat down in front of it. For the next couple of minutes, he stared at his reflection with his owl-like eyes; his body didn't even move an inch.

A sound came out of him.... It was a soft, almost trembling sound.....

 Sobbing...

A soft sob of grief and confusion wrapped up in a heart wrenching bow.

But as well as it being filled with grief and confusion, the sob was still primarily animalistic. Yet with each hiccup, there was the smallest hint of Scott's human voice.

He's still in there.... Despite what that anvil did to him, he's still in there.

I glanced up at Lizzie as she grabbed at her arm with her blackened, splotchy arm and tightly gripped it. When Lizzie's eyes met mine, the hybrid immediately looked away and closed her eyes.

Lizzie's body was shaking as she swallowed some spit; the black spots on her arms began to branch down towards her hands like roots of a tree.

" L-Lizzie?" I stuttered as I reached my unsteady hand towards her. Lizzie stole a glance towards me then inched to the corner of the couch. I moved my arm back and clenched then unclenched my hand. A frown formed on my face as I cleared my throat.

" W-What do we do?" I eventually whispered.

Lizzie's ear fins perked up but she didn't move from the corner. Instead, she only let out a small incoherent grumble as her tail curled around her.

 Okay.... Okay...

I... I don't know what to do in this situation?

This is the first time that I've heard Scott make any sort of human-ish sound since he carried me here.

And, meanwhile, Lizzie's shutdown and is barely acknowledging my existence. So, in the end, I'm alone in this situation.

Do I try and bring Lizzie back to reality?

Or, do I make an attempt to speak with Scott?

Looking between Scott and Lizzie, I pondered how hurt I'd become between interacting with a mer hybrid or interacting with a feral owl hybrid.

 I shook my head.

Both are a bad idea. But, one could lead to progress on restoring a broken brain.

What more could I have to lose?

I picked up my crutch and slowly forced myself to stand. My broken leg wobbled as I bit at my bottom lip and began to move towards Scott.

 It's fine.

 This'll be fine.

Slowly, I hobbled myself out from our little hiding spot and moved towards Scott. The hybrid, still engrossed in his sobbing and shaking, was none-the-wiser of my approach. Which, honestly, I don't if that's a good thing or not.

Once I had at least six feet between me and the owl, I cleared my throat and leaned forward.

" S-Scott?" I questioned as Scott's feathered ears perked up. The hybrid's ears twitched slightly as his wings flared outwards and ruffled. Slowly, Scott turned himself towards me.

But, thankfully, Scott hadn't hissed at me yet: That was a good and new development

Scott kept staring at me as he moved to his wall and lowered his body to the ground. Some feathers dropped from Scott's wings and neck. A whine escaped from the owl.

" N-No Scott... It's just me, BigB." I softly smiled as I raised my hand, " I'm your friend."

There wasn't any movement between either of us. Scott's eyes began to scan up and down my body as his wings briefly twitched.

I held my breath and dared not to move; Even though the pain in my still sore, semi-bruised leg was growing more and more apparent.

Scott eyes eventually landed on my face:

There was a small human-ish glint in his eyes as his wings and feathers began to lower. The hybrid's eyes began to glow as he shook his head and shivered.

I watched as the Scottish owl slowly sat down and began to lick at his hands (which had now become yellow, bird-like talons). Then, he began to run his talons through his hair and got rid of the bits of dirt and gunk that's been gathering for quite a while now.

 " S-Scott?" I repeated.

Scott looked back up at me then looked back towards the puddle of water. With a couple of slow, strained movements, Scott moved back to the puddle and stuck his hand into the stagnant pool and began pawing at it.

 I raised an eyebrow.

What's going on in your brain, Scott?

I leaned forward in order to see into the puddle. And, it was exactly as I saw it before: a puddle.

What did you see in this puddle that made you cry?

Was it your own reflection? Or is there something more?

" I wish that you could talk, Scott.." I mumbled, " I... I wish that your head could just heal already..."

Scott looked up at me and pawed at the puddle of water again. The hybrid continued to state at me until-

 " HSSS!"

Scott suddenly hissed as he grabbed at either side of his head with his hands. The hybrid curled in on himself as his wings wrapped around his body. A soft, strained whimper came from him as his body slowly moved with his quivering breaths.

 Oh no...Oh no......

 I've got to do something.

" S-Scott?" I whispered as I slowly moved closer to him. I reached a shaking hand out to the hybri-

 " HSSSSSSSSSSSS!"

" AAAAAAAAAAAH!" I yelped as I stumbled backwards.

I tripped over my broken leg. When my back hit the ground, a sudden shock of pain traveled down my leg and up my spine to my head.

Violent pain started to takeover all normal thought as I forced myself into a ball. As I breathed through clenched teeth, I could've sworn that I saw Lizzie peeking her head out from behind the divider.

 Lizzie...

 Help...

 " ..... "

Not a single word could be forced out of my mouth. Instead, I could only force out a pained gasped as my body shuddered.

Multi-colored spots clouded my vision as I forced them to close. I let out a shaky breath as my arms began to twitch as I clenched my teeth.

 Please...

 Please help me....

I gasped and woke up to a decent-sized, fluffy weight draping itself across my stomach. Slowly, I forced myself to open my eyes and stared up at the rocky ceiling of the cavern.

The multi-colored spots were long gone, but I could still feel the after effects of the injury. Said injuries being weighed down and numbed by the fluffy thing on me.

If I had to guess, this fluffy weight had to be Scott.

" I-I..." I tried to force words out of my mouth but flinched at the pain. A soft chrr came from Scott as he slid off me.

Fighting against the pain, I began to look around and noticed that.....

 Lizzie was gone.

Lizzie was gone but the divider remained.

 What happened to her?

 Where did she go?

Did she leave while I was unconscious?

 Why didn't she help me?

" W-W...." I flinched again. My head was pounding as the sound of ruffling feathers soon reached my ears.

Garbled words of endless, unknown questions began to pound at my brain as I clenched my jaw.

God, it's a real bad idea to continue thinking right now.... It feels like hammers are pounding my brain into mush.

The room resuming its spinning as I let out a strained, small cough. A soft chirp came from Scott as he walked into my peripheral. I flinched slightly as Scott tried to sniff at my cheek. The owl's wings spread out as his feathers fluffed up.

Somehow, focusing my attention on Scott was slowing the room's spinning. Eventually, my eyes focused focused on the feral hybrid as I let out a shaky breath.

" Brrr...?" Scott moved back and let out a soft hoot. I kept staring at him as his talons scratched at the stone floor.

" I... Don't..." I slowly rose my head as my body continued to ache. Scott kept staring at me until something made him perk up and in the direction of the stairs.

" HSSSS!" Scott's wings spread outwards as the glow of Scott's eyes grew more intense. Blue wisps of light began to float around Scott's head.

As Scott's hissing grew louder, steady and equally unsteady footsteps began to echo down the stairs.

 One.

 One two.

 One.

 One two three.

If I didn't have a feral owl man constantly moving and hissing around me, then the footsteps would've lulled me to sleep. It sounded....Nice...Nice and...Comfor-

" W-Watch out!" A familiar, panicked voice came after the struggling footsteps.

My eyes snapped open as I gasped. Multiple spots clouded my vision as I shook my head and tried to move my numbing arm. Luckily, Scott didn't react to my struggling.

Returning my attention to the voices, I narrowed my eyes and attempted to focus. I managed to catch some sounds:

A series of grumbles, gasps, and grunts suddenly came from the steps; Said sounds were also growing louder.

I glanced up at Scott and raised an eyebrow.

Scott, meanwhile, was still watching the steps as a large lump-shaped shadow climbed its way onto the wall. The hybrid climbed over me and slowly lowered his wings until most of my body was covered.

Thankfully, I could still see through the frayed feathers.

" Y-You're alright, Lizzie..." Jimmy spoke with a quivering voice.

 Jimmy? And Lizzie?

 Hmm....

Joel and Grian, before they went crazy, did speak of Jimmy being alive on this server; But, honestly, I didn't expect it to be true.

It's a relief that he's still alive and hadn't been forced to respawn.

I watched as Jimmy, with Lizzie leaning against him, made their way into the open space.

Scott's hissing died down and was replaced with a happy chirp. The hybrid's body shimmied as he tapped his clawed hands and feet against the floor.

" U-Uh. Hi Scott!" Jimmy awkwardly greeted, " You're real feathery now mate and big."

Scott chirped again before looking down at me.

" W-What's that b-below you, S-Scott?" Jimmy questioned with a tilt of his head; A nervous look on his face. The hybrid flapped his wings and slowly moved himself off of me.

" O-Oh my goodness." Jimmy's eyes widened as he laid eyes on me. The man's awkwardly sized wings rose as his eyes widened.

Jimmy immediately began to mumble something into Lizzie's ear fins causing her to grumble. But, eventually, she shook her head; the hybrid's mouth opened to a sharp-toothed grimace of pain and discomfort.

I tiredly watched as Jimmy walked Lizzie over to the couch and sat her down. After Lizzie was comfortably sitting, Jimmy nodded his head and moved the divider to the wall.

The two talked in hushed whispers for a brief moment. Lizzie looked away from Jimmy and frowned; Lizzie's eyebrows lowered as her lip quivered. Jimmy's shoulders lowered as he reached out to Lizzie. But, Lizzie shied away from him and took out a small potion bottle filled with a white liquid and began to drink out of it.

Jimmy's wings lowered as he turned and walked over to me.

Scott began to coo as he fully stepped away from me. The feral hybrid's body wiggled as he met with Jimmy halfway. Jimmy's nose scrunched up as he looked between Scott and me. The hybrid's yellow wings twitched.

" Oh Scott... What've you done in this state?" Jimmy questioned as Scott chirped again then laid down.

Jimmy shook his head as he kneeled down next to me, " I'm going to pick you up, alright?" he whispered, " Your leg's pretty badly twisted, and I need to look at the rest of your injuries."

I could only reply with a soft whimper. As Jimmy worked on moving my now limp body, my mind began to wander as my eyes began to close again. Jimmy's soft, reassuring mumbles to himself weren't helping in keeping me awake.

  What... What..... he.... saying....?

((??? Timeskip brought to you by a bat sitting on Mumbo's head))

" What were you thinking, Lizzie?" Jimmy squawked. Lizzie let out a soft grumble in return.

" I... I wasn't thinking..." Lizzie managed to mumble, " Everythin' is poisoned... Haven't been able to get... milk or find cows recently..."

Jimmy could only let out a soft, albeit distressed, chirp in response. The hybrid's feathers ruffled as he cleared his throat, " You three are real lucky that I'm here and could send out a message for help."

Lizzie grumbled, " 'm thankful for that, Jim. But, I don't get how Fwhip n' the others will be able to fix Grian and Joel."

" I... I honestly don't know either." Jimmy admitted," Maybe, if they can help us kill Grian n' Joel then they'd go back to normal?"

I let out a soft grumble as the two continued to speak in whispers. My whole lower body was now numb as I let out a shaky sigh.

The whispers stopped once I coughed. After each cough, a shiver forced its way down my spine. I sniffled and attempted to settle my stunted breaths. There was a strong taste of melon on my breath: An ingredient in a healing potion.

Jimmy let out a small snuffle. Then, the recently birdified man's footsteps tapped against the floor as he walked over to me.

" Heyy BigB..." Jimmy whispered, " You're alright..."

 " ....Ack-!"

Only a gasped of pain came out of my mouth. After the gasp, I went into a quiet coughing fit that caused my body to shake. Everything that was originally numb was now aching horribly. But, for some reason, I couldn't feel the weight of my broken leg anymore.

" Heyheyheyhey. Don't try and move too quickly... J-Just breathe." Jimmy spoke quickly, " Let's... Let's sit you up."

Slowly, I opened my eyes and looked over at Jimmy; my head lolled slightly as the coughing fit settled. Jimmy frowned at me and gently put his hand against the side of my head before moving it upwards.

I let out a soft sniffle and blinked a couple of times. Once my vision cleared up enough, I looked down at my....Leg? One.. One leg.

" W-What happen?" I forced myself into saying; I barely even had a voice at this point.

Jimmy nodded, " Y-Yeah... It took a lot of energy from both me and Lizzie, but we managed to remove it before it and the code around it got too infected."

 Infected?

Right... Right... I forgot that Lizzie couldn't even get inside the leg nor access to the code to it. I don't really understand the code to begin with.

But, besides that lack of understanding, the bones within my leg were broken to the point where it wasn't even a useable anymore.

It was only a matter of time before it had to be removed, I guess.

I let out a tired sound as I looked between Lizzie, who was sitting at the dining table, and Jimmy, who was sitting next to me with his head tilted. Jimmy gave me a soft smile.

" You alright?" Jimmy questioned as I looked towards Scott's dugout. Jimmy followed my gaze.

" He's... He's in there and alright." Jimmy answered, " I think he's trying to put his mind back together."

Trying to put his mind back together...

I nodded my head at Jimmy's words.

Hopefully, he can do that before Fwhip and the others arrive as back up. No, change that, hopefully we can help him before Fwhip and the others arrive.

I yawned as my stomach growled. Flinching in discomfort, I leaned my head against the back of the couch.

Jimmy put his hand against my shoulder, " You hungry?" he questioned. I gave him a soft nod as I let out a yawn. The man nodded then stood up.

" I'll be back in a bit." Jimmy smiled as he disappeared into the kitchen and began working on making food for the three, no four, of us.

Lizzie looked over at me as her ear fins lowered. The hybrid's tail twitched as she looked at the blackened, sunken marks on her hand.

" 'm sorry about leaving." Lizzie whispered, " Scott was fiercely guarding over your body... I-I didn't know what to do..."

So, that's why she left while I was unconscious.

 " Where'd you.... find.... Jimmy?" I mumbled.

" He found me, actually." Lizzie rubbed at the back of her head. With a raise of my eyebrow, I crossed my arms over my chest and breathed slowly.

Lizzie's ears twitched again, " I... I was trying to find some food and medicine... But, But I guess that I got lost and... I woke up in the snow with Jimmy trying to carry me back."

I stared at my friend with a blank expression.

She went out into the cold in her current state? She could've died and who knows if she would've respawned again.

" A-Are you- Gah!" I flinched at the sudden, horrible pain in my leg. Man, I wish that my lower body was still numb. Lizzie's eyes widened, " Y-You alright?" she whispered as she forced herself to sit up.

 I'm not okay...

They don't need to know it though...

" I-It's just phantom pains. Once I can leave the server, then I should be back to normal. Haha." I awkwardly laughed then winced.

Laughing was a bad idea. Doing anything is a bad idea.

Lizzie and I continued to talk until Jimmy came back with bowls on food and his feathery tail swishing. Content chirps came from the man as he dished out the food. Once everyone, including Scott, had food, Jimmy joined Lizzie and me on the couch in order to eat.
