Feral

Author's Note: Ah, I finally managed to finish the HCBBS oneshots. Now, I can work on the two bigger stories that revolve around HCBBS. The more... magical ones... ya know? It's gonna take me a little bit to write them because I haven't even started them yet.

Soooo yeah....  I do still have some other oneshots to do... One in particular that really does require some more attention because I've been putting it off for a good while due to not having that great of an idea to jump off of.

Well, I'll finish it at some point.

 Enjoy!

 (A day after Stuck)

 Grian's POV:

I leaned against one of the walls of Mu-Scar's base with a small groan. I... I'm tired...

Slowly, I pushed myself off of the wall and swayed slightly. My head was swimming as my wings flapped in order to balance myself. With another flap of my wings, I just barely managed to stand upright with my body only slightly moving with the small breezes sweeping through the area.

" Grian?" I slowly raised my head towards Mumbo as he looked up from checking Scar's vitals.

" Chrrrp?" My feathers ruffled as I stared at the hermit with drooping eyes. Mumbo moved towards me as I stuck my tongue out slightly. Heh... Long legs... Mumbo can Mumbo can go a pretty far distance with a long.... mmmm...

 " GRIAN!"

I snapped my eyes open and gasp as Mumbo interlocked my arms with his and forced me to stand on my own two feet again. Mumbo slowly took his arms away from me. Another small chirp came out of me as I started to fall forward when my legs buckled.

" GRIAN!" Mumbo shouted again as he wrapped his arms around my midsection in order to not let me smack my face into the stone.

I just want to sleep. I just... Just let me sleep.

 Chrrr... Chrrrrrr...

" Grian, I'm taking you back to your new base..." Mumbo told me with concern laced within his words, " Zedaph's currently sleeping in your old bed, and there isn't any spare beds here... I-I should know." he laughed awkwardly.

Mumbo continued to ramble on about 'how long have I went without sleep' and 'I should've been paying more attention to how we were feeling too'. My feathers ruffled as I chirped at Mumbo as he forced me into a bridal carry.

My tail feathers were ruffled as I squeaked at him, " Don't try and talk, Grian. You're exhausted." Mumbo whispered as I twitched slightly. Eventually, I settled down as my head lolled slightly until Mumbo adjusted how he was carrying me until my head was against his shoulder.

" Muuummmmboooooo." I tried to speak as my voice slowly wavered into silence to accompany my passing out.

((Timeskip brought to you by a cat!Grian being held up by Scar Lion King style.))

Everything felt heavy as my eyes slowly opened to a cave of many contraptions. My body was on the floor of mossy-texture, red floor. Nether blocks, mayhaps?

My body was shaking and starting to claw at the floor while making small squawks of displeasure.

It was at that point where I realized something.

I wasn't....I wasn't in control of my own body!

 " Chrrrrr?"

For some reason, I'm feral and still awake during it. Ren and Doc had both told me that switching to your more animalistic side should put you to sleep unless it was magically forced.

Mumbo put me into Zedaph's old bed, and I was already asleep for that moment. I should've just woken up either well rested or at least slightly ill; Probably the latter because I was awake for multiple days straight with only tea and pure willpower keeping me steady for many days straight.

 " Chirrrrrp?"

I looked around my mental space with a heavy frown then shook my head. Should I be worried that this place was emptier and darker than my old mansion base?

 Probably.

Though this is the least of my concerns at the moment.

I looked up at the hazy screen and shook my head. Slowly, I was drowning in a sea of slumber as I started to grow more heavy. If I had to guess, I'd say that my more feral side was trying to force me to sleep again.

 Can't do that though.

I can't go back to sleep... I need control over my body again....

 I.... I need it...

 -----------------------------------

 Zedaph's POV:

" THE WRONG-SIDE-OF-THE-BED CONTRAPTION!" I shouted causing a loud echo to bounce off the main walls of my new mansion. I quickly grasped at my pajama shirt as I wrestled myself from my temporary bed.

I looked out the hole in the main door and stared up at the sky. I forgot to warn Grian about the effects of waking up on bad side of the bed! Then again, Tango, Impulse, Xisuma, and I all promised to keep that a secret, but I really should've told him about it.

Oh my goodness.... I am such a foolish little sheep hybrid. My ears twitched and my tail thrashed. While hurrying towards the hole in the doorway, I quickly strapped my elytra on and leapt off the giant stairway into the big, open sky.

I was half debating on whether or not I should go through the Nether in order to get to my old base.

Yes, the Nether was significantly faster, but I don't exactly know the way to my base from here. I shook my head. No, no I can't just fly through the Overworld! My base was way too far for one elytra alone.

With slight desperation, I looked around for Grian's Nether portal and grinned when I spotted it within the villager trading hall. I flew into the portal with no more hesitation and landed in order to teleport through.

My hoof tapped against the obsidian bottom of the portal. Come on, come on... Why can't you work faster?

Once I was through the portal, I opened my communicator and quickly typed in the coordinates to my old base. Hopefully, I typed them in correctly.

With a brief shudder, I flew into the air and followed the coordinates towards my base. Hopefully, Grian hasn't fallen asleep in that bed yet.

((There's a blank room with one post-it note on the wall, " thirty minutes later." it reads.))

My entire base was a mess when I reentered it through the Nether portal.

Clothes had been haphazardly tossed around everywhere like ragdolls. Next, Chests had their contents spilled out. Finally, there were a bunch of scratch marks dug deeply into the solid stone floor, and a bunch of feathers littered the floor.

 I narrowed my eyes.

 Wait a second.

I looked around the room for any other thing of feathers and nodded. There weren't any other feather piles or lines from where I was currently standing. On top of that, when I looked down and behind me, there wasn't any feathers there either.

Therefore, Grian didn't go through the portal.

Unfortunately, all these stray feathers have undoubtedly confirmed my concerns.

Grian slept in that contraption I built; a contraption that forced me into a feral state.

 I'm a fool.

I should've sealed off that room.

In my defense though, I didn't even imagine that a base swap would happen this season! I believed that this contraption was just a one-off thing that would just end in a fun, little secret between a small group of hermits.

My ears perked up to the soft sound of chirping. It was a quiet, drained sound; however, it also sounded comfortable as well. With a twitch of my ears and nose, I started to follow the chirps as the nose became slightly louder.

No, it wasn't louder, it was clearer.

I continued to follow the sound until I reached a stone wall covered in scratch marks. With a grumble, I put my hooved-hands to my hips and frowned heavily.

" G-Grian? I don't know if you're 'you' at the moment, but I want you to come out of hiding..." I spoke as loudly, but calmly, as I could. One of my ears lowered but the other was still raised.

 " Chrrrrrrr?"

My head snapped out towards a medium-sized notch in the wall just a good six feet above me.

I honestly didn't notice that before.

Then again, I don't really look at every little space in my cave. I'm more grounded despite building a bunch of things.

 " Chrrrrr?"

A quiet trilling continued to come from above me. I looked in my inventory and smiled. Thank goodness, I actually have some blocks that I can use to scaffold up there; it's dirt but dirt is as good as anything.

My tail wiggled as I built the beginning of the scaffolding then started to bounce up the blocks until I reached the hole in the wall.

Gently, I peered into the hole and was met with a pair of dull purple eyes.

" Hey G-man..." I greeted softly as my ears lowered. The feral bird hybrid lowered his head and yawned before turning away from me with his wings covering him like a nice blanket. Honestly, I think wool makes a better blanket, but that's neither here nor there.

I sharply shook my head. No Zedaph. Don't get distracted about your preferences. Grian needs to go back to the bed and sleep.

" G-Grian, do you want some seeds?" I questioned as I took a small bag of wheat seeds out of my pocket. When did I put seeds into my pocket? I have no clue.

Grian slowly twisted himself around and stared at the seeds with slightly widened eyes.

" Chirrrrp?" Grian cocked his head to the side, " Chrrrrrrrr..."

The bird hybrid stretched out and started to slink towards me like a curious cat would. I wonder. Is he acting like a cat because it's just easier to do so or does he have somehow have cat DNA within him as well?

I wonder if he's come into contact with any cat-related magicks recently.

" Chirrrp.... Chirrrp..." Grian stuck his talon-covered hand out towards the seed packet as I took it away from him. The bird made an annoyed squawking sound and started to follow me down the scaffolding on all fours.

My tail twitched as I occasionally shook the bag in order to regain the attention of the feral hybrid. The two of us continued to walk until we reached my mood altering bed contraption.

I turned my head back towards Grian as he stopped moving. The hermit stared at the bed with ruffled feathers as he squawked at me.

" It's okay, Grian..." I smiled gently, " The bed won't hurt you... I-I know that you going back to bed will turn you back... It'll calm you down... Give you your energy back.." I raised both of my hoof hands after setting the seeds down onto the bed.

Grian stared at the seeds and started to move towards them. A small, confused sound came out of him as he tried to bite the bag off of the bed. Gently, I pushed the bag further down the bed and towards the pillow causing Grian to crawl onto the bed.

Once the hybrid's head was on the pillow with the packet of seeds into his arms, I slowly put the blanket over him. My tail twitched as I watched Grian's eyes return from being dull to being normal again.

My ears lowered as I leaned down in front of Grian.

" Hey mate.... Are you feelin' like yourself again?" I questioned as Grian blinked a couple of times. The hermit chirped quietly as he curled up into a ball. A small cough escaped from the hermit as he shivered slightly.

Grian opened his mouth to talk, but only a strained wheeze came out of him. Honestly, it kinda sounded like the air was being let out of him like a balloon. I put my hoof hand against Grian's still claw-like hand as he continued to curl up in a ball.

" Go to sleep, Grian..." I told him as he let out another strained wheeze before closing his already droopy eyes. Once the hermit was in an incredibly deep slumber, I lifted him out of the bed and towards one of my more secluded rooms off in the corner of the cave.

No one, expect for Impulse and Tango obviously, knew about this secret bedroom. A place to go when you just wanna settle down and eat some good food in the comfort of friends, plushies, and blankets.

It also makes a pretty good nest if you squint hard enough.

I laid Grian down causing him to instinctually stretch out with a small trill. My tail wiggled as I smiled softly and began to leave the cave.

Before I could even get an inch away from Grian, a hand slowly gripped at my wrist and pulled me back in. I let out a small chuckle and sat back down.

A small smile was on Grian's face as he settled back into a heavy sleep. I let out a sigh and typed onto my communicator:

<ZedaphPlays> Hey everyone, I'm taking care of Grian for a little bit, so please don't call me or him until it's an emergency.

<TangoTek> Alright man, just make sure that you get some rest as well!

 <MumboJumbo> What Tango said.

I nodded my head and turned my communicator off. With a quiet, tired yawn, I laid down and shuffled around until I was under some blankets and dozing off to sleep.
