0.2 gotham city

The next day both women landed on the ground of the United States of America and Serenna was still amazed by the technology that mankind had to offer. She didn't even question how Diana owned a private jet, a word that the princess had explained to her. The new clothes the dark woman wore, were a little different than she was used to. They weren't unpleasant, but the fabric felt foreign on her skin and she wasn't sure if she would become accustomed to all these clothes.

"How is mankind like?" The question made Diana look at her, her features softened while she waited for the dark-haired woman to catch up.

"It's different than Themyscira and yet also the same," the brunette answered honestly giving her a sign to follow her. Curious Serenna watched Diana, she knew that there was a reason for the Amazon to stay, and she could remember the man that left Themyscira with her. But Diana hadn't mentioned him yet and for that, there had to be a good reason.

"There must have been something special," Serenna started, voice calm as she eyed the princess from the side.

"For you to stay all those years."

Diana threw her a short glance and even when the princess tried to hide the sadness in her warm eyes, Serenna noticed it immediately. The last time she saw her sadness was when Antiope died in the battle. A crushing memory for both of them.

"Well, mankind showed me something special in the great war," the words from the princess had a much bigger meaning behind them, but Serenna let it slide, not wanting to push her feelings.

She was sure that when Diana would be ready, she would tell her everything.

"We should hurry up, we need to drive the rest of the way." Confused the dark woman turned towards her as the princess stilled in her movements. "Drive?" A small smile was forming on her lips as Serenna arched an eyebrow. Her eyes followed the direction where Diana was walking and the thing that stood there caught her eyes.

"Can this transport us also?" She stopped in front of it, eying it up and down, again amazed by how mankind could build those. The Silver color shone in the sunlight as she carefully touched the cold and hard surface.

"It's a car and yes it will transport us to our destination. Come on."

"He lives here?" Serenna already didn't like the town that wore the name Gotham City. Diana has told her the name from this city and the dark-haired was already certain that it held a certain sickening darkness inside. Just alone the drive through the town was enough for her, seeing poor people on every street corner and the ruthless citizens, fighting in bright daylight.

"Yes."

Serenna watched the house near the lake, the trees around it looming over everything like a dark shadow. Even the water from the lake felt wrong for her, a darkness she didn't even want to be near.

It was like the city held a disease with no cure to come, sending it towards their own doom.

"I'm not overly fond of this place or this city," she mumbled and the princess laid a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "Me neither, but we won't stay all that long," Diana replied tugging her along towards the side entrance. Diana knew the security of Bruce Wayne, especially the one is his so-called Batcave.

"Does he know that we are coming?" Serenna asked, eyes watching the cave they were now in. The cave was big, way bigger than Serenna thought, but when she laid eyes on the planes and the other technology that was down here, she knew why it was so large. "Not exactly," she almost didn't hear the quiet reply from Diana. Her brown eyes landed on a male figure, he was working on one of the planes and the dark-haired woman halted in her steps.

She watched carefully how Diana walked towards him, her long ponytail swaying side to side with every step she took.

"I have paid millions of dollars for the security in this building," the man's voice was deep while it almost echoed through the cave. With a smug smile, Diana crossed her arms over her chest as Bruce looked down from his position. "A new toy?" she asked nodding towards the plane he was working on, cocking her head a little to the side. Serenna listened carefully, standing behind in the shadows not wanting to alert the man in any way.

"Troop-transport prototype," the man answered, leaning over the little railing that kept him up there. Diana's eyes roamed over the plane. "I knew a man who would have loved to fly it."

"It's meant for something more than just one pilot," the voice of Bruce got serious, watching the Amazons every move. "I think there is an attack coming." A little sigh left Diana's lips and Serenna could understand why. The man was right and wrong at the same time. "No Bruce," the princess started looking directly at him.

"It's already here."

The sudden voice from Serenna made both turn towards her. Alarmed Bruce tried to grab something to defend himself, but Diana held him back. "She's with me," the princess spoke with a firm tone causing the male to relax. The dark woman came closer to the two, still watching this Bruce as Diana had called him. "The danger is already out there and we need to stop it as fast as we can," she spoke again, seeing how Bruce came down from the plane.

His sleeves were rolled up while he cleaned his hands from the grease. Still confused his eyes switched between Diana and the dark woman, not fully understanding what was going on.

"Bruce this is Serenna," Diana introduced the two to each other, feeling the weird tension and seeing the confused face of Bruce. "Serenna this is Bruce Wayne." He stretched his hand out for her to take, but the dark-haired woman just gave him a short nod. "Nice to meet you," she mumbled, not really knowing what to think about him.

Just like Gotham, he also seemed to carry a certain darkness in him. She could easily spot it in his eyes but she also trusted Diana's judgment that he could and would help both of them.

"So, care to enlighten me?" There was little humor in his voice, yet Serenna knew he was serious about everything, even the warning. "It's a bit of a long story," Diana answered honestly as she followed Bruce towards a different room. This place was full of technology and in wonder, Serenna looked at everything that was in here.

"I've got nothing else to do today."

She could feel the eyes of Bruce Wayne on her, but she ignored him for the most part. He was trying to figure out what she was and where she came from, and there was still doubt in his eyes, probably not quite believing that she was coming from Themyscira just like the Amazon in this room.

"Decades ago, when the gods still ruled the earth there was a great war forming as a creature from another world landed here," Serenna started and the princess didn't interfere, knowing that the dark woman knows the story better than Diana ever did. "He wanted to destroy the earth with the help of three mother boxes. They are holding a power inside them far from anyone's knowledge." Bruce listened to every word she said, sitting down on the chair in the room. "Which makes those boxes dangerous."

Serenna turned towards him with fierce eyes. "Not just dangerous, lethal. The thing that came and declared war upon earth called himself Steppenwolf. Only he seemed to understand the true power of the boxes but thankfully the gods, mankind, Atlanteans, the Amazons, and an army called the green lantern corps went against him," she carried on with a firm tone.

"Together they could weakening him, taking the mother boxes from Steppenwolf and he had to leave earth. After that they split the three boxes, the first one was given to the Amazons knowing they could watch and fight for its safety. The second one was given to the Atlanteans and the third and last one was given to mankind. After the war the boxes had stilled, giving no sign of an attack until now."

"So that means he is back, that- what's his name again?"

"Steppenwolf and yes, he is back. He already has the first mother box," this time Diana spoke out her sentence and Serenna almost bowed her head in shame. She had been there when Steppenwolf took the box, an action she should have stopped. Bruce's hand stroke through his dark and grey hair, the worry was the only emotion on his features that Serenna could see at that moment. "What's the plan then?" His eyes locked with those from Diana making it seem like they could read their minds. The dark woman watched the interaction with curious eyes.

"We need to bring the team together."
