Who We Really Are

Class started as per the usual. It seemed that gym Gamma, where the students practice their ultimate moves is being used more and more often. According to Aizawa, the final semester is all about polish. With the basics of heroism learned, the remaining months will be spent, perfecting what they have learned thus far, before advancing to the second year. With the students coming back from internship, many were eager to show off new moves and tricks.

"Are you kidding me!? He showed up again!?" Mina exclaimed in shock, learning about Izuku's involvement in during the raid.

"Yeah, and more ferocious than ever!" Ochaco replied.

"We could have had him though, he was damaged by Mirio and even lost a quirk." Ranted Katsuki, slamming his fist against the wall.

Seeing this, Kirishima walked up to him, patting him on the back.

"We'll get him next time, but now, we need to get stronger. With the amount of criminal activity going down, we need to keep on getting stronger, until we can get powerful enough to bring him down ourselves." Kirishima said encouragingly, trying to boost his friend's morale, before hardening his entire body, "Now hit me with your best shot!"

Katsuki let out a smirk after hearing this.

"Fine." He grunted, before turning to Todoroki, who was training his One For All quirk with All Might.

"Half and Half can keep that damn quirk, I'll just get stronger my own way!"

Suddenly, a massive explosion happened, as the platform Cementoss made was destroyed with one heavy smash attack, sending debris raining down on the small group of students. Seeing the upcoming danger, Katsuki fired a barrage of explosions, blasting away the falling debris. The blasts weren't strong enough to pulverize the bigger chunks though, forcing the other students to defend accordingly. With the sky clear of falling rocks, Katsuki rocketed himself up to what was left of the platform, where All Might was barely holding on to the ledge and Todoroki on of ground.

"WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED HERE!?"

"Sorry..." Todoroki muttered as a response to Katsuki's rage.

"We tried to utilize Young Todoroki's ice to act as braces, allowing him to use 100% without breaking his arm." Explained All Might, "But the amount of ice required made it too cumbersome for him to move his fist, disturbing his aim and causing him to hit the platform by accident."

"Well be more fucking careful next time." Katsuki grunted.

"Yeah! Tell me about it! You are a horrible teacher, All Might!" A third voice cut in.

Suddenly, gasps ran out below, as a familiar figure was seen, crawling up to the platform where the three were standing.

"Tomura? What are you doing here!?" Asked All Might, "Classes are in session!"

"I know." Shigaraki replied, sitting down, "And from the looks of it, looks like someone needs to be fired."

"My teaching is good enough!" All Might replied sternly, knowing who he was referring to.

"Then what's that in your back pocket?" Asked Tomura, walking up to him and snatching a "Teaching for Dummies" book, "Admit it, you have zero experience in being a teacher!"

Yagi sighed at Tomura's insight, as well as cursed lightly for letting that book slip out of his pocket. Suddenly, to his surprise, Tomura then turned to Todoroki, looking a the arm he used to perform that punch.

"With these arms, I say 60% is the maximum you can use without any lasting damage; 30% if you don't want any bruising or intense pain, I believe you can go up to 75% if you cover it with ice. Anything above 80 will break your wrist though, and I'm not certain if your forearm can take a full 100%, even with your ice armor."

"Really? It can't be though, my ice breaks even at 60%" Todoroki replied, confused by Tomura's speculations.

"Is that so? then show me how you cover your arm."

The student then immediately froze his entire arm, covering it in an inch of ice. Seeing this made Tomura wish he still had his hand, because it would save him the trouble of facepalming.

"No No No! You're doing it all wrong!" Shigaraki exclaimed, "First, get rid of the ice on the bicep region! Most of the force will be focused on the front, so the amount of ice you put there is completely unnecessary. Also, you froze your joints like an idiot! Now, you won't even be able to bend your arm, making your punching lack power and increases the recoil! And third, if you can regulate a small percentage of One For All throughout your entire body, try increasing the output, or at least do so for your upper torso, that way, you'll have enough force to back up the amount of force you dish out!"

Then, Shigaraki instructed the student, telling exactly where to freeze and the preferable punching posture.

"Now try."

With the increased mobility, Todoroki channeled One For All once more, and, with a single punch, managed to create a wind blast nearly identical to the one's that All Might's punches generate. Seeing the sheer amount of power getting unleashed, the student looked down at his hand.

"So, how are you feeling?" Asked Shigaraki

While the force blasted away the ice, the student can still move his hand and form a fist. Seeing this, he smiled.

"Great!"

Shigaraki smiled back.

"Good, now keep on practicing until you can move on to using it at full power." Shigaraki ordered, "In the meantime, I hope your "Teacher" doesn't botch your training by giving you faulty information."

All Might on the other hand, stood there, bewildered, as the reformed villain now walked up to Katsuki.

"Now, I think it's time we worked on your quirk as well, give me your best shot and I'll see what I can do to improve it."

"He's a natural born teacher..." Thought All Might.

Suddenly, white bands shot out from behind, wrapping around Shigaraki.

"That's enough Shigaraki, now leave before I call in the building security." Aizawa ordered, "As for you two, get back to work."

"Hold on!" All Might stopped the teacher, "He was actually helping me teach these students."

"Excuse me?"

"I-I know it's hard to believe, but this man's a natural when it comes to teaching."

"Don't be ridiculous Toshinori, besides, even if that was the case, what gives these two students the rights on getting advanced training as opposed to the others?"

"Actually, I can help the others if you like." Shigaraki cut in, "It's not like I have anything better to do."

Hearing this, Aizawa glared back at All Might.

"Please, you got to believe me." Added All Might.

Aizawa sighed, as he jumped down from the platform.

"Listen up everyone, from this moment, if any of you have any problems, Shigaraki will be available."

The rest of the students seemed weirded out by this announcement. Why would they let a former villain into the school, much less have him teach them? Many just ignored the announcement and went back to training their quirks, while Shigaraki resumed to training Katsuki.

"You know no one's gonna come to him, right?" Asked All Might.

"Well what else could I have done? Even you have yet to prove to me that his guy's a good teacher." Replied Aizawa.

All Might let out a defeated sigh.

"Well, how can I prove it then?" Asked All Might, "Teaching isn't exactly the same as fighting, where all you need to do is show off with how much force you can punch or how fast you run."

"Have you even read the first page of that book your holding?" Asked Aizawa, pointing to his "teaching for dummies" book, "Teaching is, at it's most fundamental point, transmitting your knowledge and skills to someone else, basically leading them down whatever path you followed, or want him to follow."

Suddenly, an idea came to his mind.

"We have a battle trial planned this afternoon right?" Asked All Might.

"Yeah, why?"

"I figured it out!"

"A way to prove me how wring you are about Shigaraki?"

"Since the battle trial this time around will be in teams, how about we let Shigaraki analyze the event like you always do and we can compare the feed backs?" Asked All Might.

Aizawa smiled at the idea.

"And what if you're wrong?" Asked Aizawa.

"Then I will take full responsibility in keeping Shigaraki a mile away from the school at all times." Replied All Might.

"Add 5000 yen and you got yourself a deal." Aizawa smiled.

"Now, remember Eri, your quirk is not dangerous." Izuku said, guiding her hand as he gently placed it on a bowl of fruit, "It is unique, but in the end, it still falls into the emitter category, meaning that with age, it controlling it is as easy as breathing."

The young girl held an apple in her hand, hesitant on whether she should activate her powers, if she even knew how to.

"Try imagining your quirk not as an enemy, but an extension of you, like a third leg or an second nose."

However, imagining herself like that only made her chuckle. Seeing this, the villain boss took off his gloves, thinking that wearing them may convey the wrong message that he's scared of making skin to skin contact with her, when in reality, he just doesn't want to accidental disintegrate her. Sure, he can always blow her apart and reconstruct her if that happens, but that will almost guarantee an outburst from Kurogiri.

Placing his palm on her head, while keeping his pinky finger away, Izuku gave her a comforting head rub, massaging her head as she started to feel drowsy from the comfort. Suddenly, his hand left her head as he suddenly yelled out "BOO!", startling her and causing her to knock the fruit bowl over. Her powers activated, reverting the apple back into a seed.

"Izuku! That was not nice!" Eri pouted.

"But it did activate your quirk, didn't it?" Izuku asked back, laughing a little.

"I-I guess..." Eri muttered.

"Besides, look at the mess you made." Izuku scolded, as he bent down to pick up the knocked over fruits.

"I-I'm sorry, I moved unintentionally when you scared me."

"And activated your quirk unintentionally." Izuku smiled, "Now, try using your quirk "intentionally", just like how you can intentionally move your arms and legs."

Listening to him, her focused once more. It wasn't easy imagining herself with another limb. But, she had to pull through, because only then, can she feel safe, knowing she can no longer hurt anyone. Her horn sizzled with white aura, but quickly fizzled away. She was scared, scared of her own powers, which made it near impossible for her to control it. Her quirk practically had a mind of it's own.

"Don't think about the negatives Eri." Izuku added, "You can force your limbs to do things they don't want to do. That's why I helped you heal Twice!"

The white aura returned.

"You can do it Eri!" Kurogiri cheered in the back.

It was glowing stronger than ever.

"Yeah! You can do it Eri!" Toga cheered.

Suddenly, everyone in the room was rooting for her.

"Eri! Eri! Eri! Eri!"

Hearing this, she felt her bad memories slowly getting dulled out. Her terrifying thoughts, her fear of herself, slowly being cleared. The white energy of her horns transferred to her hands.

"I-I'm doing it!" Eri smiled, "I'm doing it!"

"Yeah! you got this Eri!"

"The world will always reject you Eri!" A sudden memory coming from Chisaki suddenly hit her, as her powers dispelled, as she dropped to the ground, panting.

"Damn, and she was so close too!" Toga sighed.

"Sorry..." Eri muttered.

"Hey, it's fine, we will make more progress tomorrow. Here, have some cake." Izuku reassured, passing her a slice of strawberry shortcake.

As Eri ate her cake, Izuku got up from the spot they were practicing in, walking to the bar a few feet away to Kurogiri.

"Same results?" Asked the bartender.

"Same results." Izuku answered, "There must be some way we can help her control her quirk."

Looking at Eri, Kurogiri felt sadness surging through him. He felt so bad for her, despite her now being in a safe environment.

"No matter how much we care for her, it just feels like somethings missing." Kurogiri commented.

"But what could that be? We take care for her everyday, we gave her proper clothes, play with her, we even threw a party the day we saved her from Chisaki." Izuku asked.

Toga, hearing this, looked away, as if she was trying to not get involved in the conversation. Izuku, however, noticed this.

"Is everything alright, Toga-chan?" Asked Izuku.

The girl hesitantly turned around.

"I may have the answer. But I just don't think it's a good idea, given our situation."

"You do? share it! I want to hear it!" Izuku asked.

Hearing this, Toga handed him a flyer she's been hiding. Izuku looked at it, and suddenly, it all made sense.

"You want us to take her to the U.A Culture festival, is that it?" Asked Izuku.

No answer, just a nod.

"I see, no wonder you hid it from us. You knew we were gonna reject that idea, didn't you?" Asked Izuku.

Another nod.

"So why? Why hide it from us?" Asked Izuku.

"Because if I didn't, we'll end up arguing about it!" Toga replied, distressed, "And I can't bare to have Eri experience that!"

"Toga has a point, young master." Kurogiri added, "Eri has never seen the world, at least not like the rest of us. If we keep her in here, we'll be no better than the Eight Precepts who held her captive in the first place."

"So what? You're suggesting we take her, a girl that's all over the news, outside, accompanied by Japan's most wanted villains?" Asked Izuku.

"It doesn't have to be us!" said Toga, "I can shapeshift into anyone, and with a bit of make up, we can camouflage your face, as well as Eri's."

"So you're suggesting us to waltz into U.A in costumes!?" Asked Izuku.

"It's not just that!" Toga added, pointing to Eri, "I... I just wanted to show Eri the concept of family, as well as experience it myself."

Izuku froze. She was right. No matter how much they care for her, if they don't show her what a family is like, she's never get over her fears. No one in this league hasn't left on a mission. The raids they go on, the heroes they fight, in the end, is all to solidify they're bonds and increase their trust. If Eri doesn't go through this, she will be beyond saving.

"Alright." Izuku finally agreed, "Everyone, get your disguises ready, because in two weeks time, we're attending the U.A culture festival for Eri."

The league cheered in agreement. They wouldn't have normally, but ever since Eri joined them, anything that involves her are almost guaranteed to be accepted.

"Culture... Festival?" Asked Eri.

"It's a festival set up by U.A, a hero school. they have tons of fun events set up, and food too."

Izuku kept on rambling on about how amazing the festival was, but then realized Eri wasn't listening, instead, she was confused by the first sentence he said.

"What's a hero?" Asked Eri.

"A hero? Well, they're... uh..."

Izuku hesitated in describing what a hero was. Should he tell her what he thinks? Or maybe how everyone else thinks? Both sides have different pros and cons, but he just couldn't decide which one was better.

"You see, it's quite complicated, but heroes are people who risk their lives to go out and save people on a daily basis. They're... like the police, but a lot more popular. They are the kind of people who wants to make everyone happy and... well, they do so by saving them and caring for them"

Eri thought about it for a little.

"So, are you a hero then?" Asked Eri.

"Huh?"

"I mean, you saved me, despite risking your lives. And you all care for me, does that make you guys heroes?"

"Uh... no, we're villains." Izuku replied, immediately regretting his decision.

"But... aren't villains bad people?"

Izuku let out a light curse, now knowing that she somehow knew what a villain was.

"Yeah, bad people for some, but villains can still be good!" Izuku replied.

"But, won't that make them heroes? If they they were good, like you said, then they would be heroes, right?"

"Eri, I know you're not gonna fully understand, but to the outside, we're not nice people." Izuku uttered out, "I'm sorry we lied to you, but in reality, we're not the caretakers you think we are."

"Why? Why do you think that?"

"Well, everyone else in the world calls me a villain, so, by to the majority, I am a villain, as simple as that." Izuku replied, trying his best not to confuse her.

"Don't say that Izuku!" Eri cried, tearing up, "It doesn't matter what the world thinks of you Izuku! You saved me! They may call you a villain, but you're still a hero! My hero!"

Hearing this coming from Eri shocked Izuku.

"Go to your room, Eri." Izuku ordered coldly.

"Izuku?"

"NOW!" He snapped at her, causing her to run off to her room in fear.

"Young Master! That was uncalled for!" Kurogiri yelled at him, but Izuku was not listening.

Instead, he stumbled back to his room, locking the door behind him. The power of words are far more powerful than any quirk, someone once said, and in no way was it more apparent than here. The impact of Eri's words resonated within Izuku's body, as he sat by his window, leaned against the window, and cried. Tears flooded out of him like a waterfall, as he desperately tried to block them using whatever means necessary.

He didn't even know why he was so upset. Was it from the sheer joy of validation, having someone in his life finally tell him what no one has before, not even All Might? Was it sorrow, realizing that by giving up on his dreams, he threw away his only chance at redemption? Or was it from guilt, the guilt of realizing what he was doing? Whatever it was, it hurt, and very badly too.

Suddenly, the door opened on it's own. It was Eri, who used her quirk on the knob.

"Eri, I thought I told you to go to your room!"

She ignored him, instead, she handed him a locket.

"You dropped this a while back. I wanted to give it back."

It was a locket with the picture of his mother, Inko, who he ended up killing when his Nomu side had completely numbed out his sense of morale. Seeing this only poured salt into the wound, as Izuku gripped on to the locket so hard, that the glass started to crack.

"I'm sorry Izuku..." Eri said quietly, placing her hand on his knee and climbing in front of his tearful face.

"Oh, no it's fine, it's fine. I'm the one who should apologize for yelling at you earlier." Izuku replied, wiping away his tears.

Eri picked up the broken locket, and with a flash of light, brought it back to normal, which impressed Izuku.

"I figure out how to control my powers, somewhat." Said Eri, "I did it when I wanted to help you really badly, but couldn't reach the door. Then, almost on instinct, I opened the door."

Hearing this, Izuku patted her head.

"So your desire to help people helped you control your power." Izuku commented, "That only proves that you're a good kid. I'm proud of you, Eri."

"Thank you." Eri said, hugging Izuku.

"No, thank you." Izuku replied, getting back up, with Eri in his arms, "Now come, Eri, as an apology for yelling at you earlier, let's go see a movie."

"Can Kuro and Toga come too?" Asked Eri.

"Of course." Izuku chuckled.

Kurogiri, on the other hand, saw all of this happen through the crack of the door. He smiled, knowing that Izuku was starting to grow not only as a leader, but also as a parent.

"Hey, Toga!" Izuku called out, walking out of his room, "I'm taking Eri to see a movie, want to come?"

"Sure thing!" Toga called back cheerfully.

As Kuro prepared the two's disguises, he looked back at Izuku and Toga, carefully dressing up Eri in a brand new coat they bought for her.

"You know, it's funny, you guys look like two parents and a daughter!" Kurogiri pointed out while smiling.

Toga and Izuku looked at each other and blushed at the bartender's comment.

"Oh my god, we totally do!" Toga squealed, "So does that make Eri our daughter then? Please tell me it does!"

"What's a daughter?" Asked Eri.

"We'll explain it to you on the way." Izuku said, wearing a white face mask and beanie.

While the leader was off with Toga, Kurogiri and Eri, Dabi stood silently in the corner, watching the shenanigans unfold. It was practically an untold tradition in this league where everyday, something bonkers HAS to happen. And man, do they follow that tradition well. Dismissing his invitation to the movies, the young villain decided to go out for a stroll.

On his way, however, he passes by a set of TVs at a storefront, where Endeavor came on, where reporters were interviewing him, as he was now, despite still not being officially announced, the Number One Hero. This caught his attention. He never really kept his identity as a Todoroki a secret within the league, heck, Toga actually knows his real name, but, what he does keep a secret, even to his leader, was what drove him to become a villain. Even Izuku never really bothered asking.

Now, however, seeing his old father, the young villain felt a sense of guilt, gnawing at the back of his mind. While he was grateful for what Izuku did to his dad's spirit, now, he couldn't help but wonder if he was wrong about his father. Just then, the words that were spoken finally made it through the young villain's cloud of thoughts.

"Now, for the final question..." The reporters asked, "It seems as though, compared to the rest of the heroes, you and you're identity has underwent the biggest change in recent times, faster than any hero yet. Can you explain to us, why the sudden re-branding?"

Endeavor let out a deep breath.

"We have all heard the stories, the rumors about my family background, how abusive I was to my wife and kids. I never gave them too much thought, but then, a certain someone made me realize that my relentless quest to weaponize my son into the hero that will surpass All Might was a byproduct of me, accepting that I will never surpass him. As the hero that will now represent the symbol of peace and justice, a man's who given up and resorted to using his own son is not the kind of man I want to be." Explained Endeavor, "I have already lost a son in this blind pursuit, and I don't plan to continue down this path. Tayo, wherever you are, if you're listening, I'm sorry."

Hearing this, Dabi quietly walked away, no longer even listening to the rest of his speech. Looking around, the streets nowadays seems to be a lot more quiet than they used to be. He can still remember the days, back when he played ball in the garden. Faces, who he recognizes, but who's names he has long forgotten. Much like Izuku, he too felt that now, the opportunity to have his father apologize to him has long passed him by, ever since he chose this path.

Looking off into the distance, and watching the sun set, Dabi let out a sigh, asking himself.

"Is being a villain even worth it anymore?"
