Epilogue | Milkweed

The flowers danced when you entered our lands.

The words felt hollow to Ethel. Why would she care about that, after she spent an eternity alone, and would spend another one in Elysium.

She didn't care that the flowers rejoiced in her passing.

She didn't care that it was special.

All she cared about was to sleep and truly not wake up again.

The fae realm had always been an empty space for her, it hadn't changed when she had followed in her mother's footsteps and become their queen.

The human realm offered her no solace after Arwen's passing.

She had known it would happen, of course she had. But actually arriving during the midsummer's eve and only being greeted by a lonely grave, she hadn't been prepared for that.

A human life was just the blink of an eye for a fae.

She hadn't lingered long in her own realm. Only staying long enough to leave flowers on Arwen's grave, till it had become one with nature.

The grave obscured by an ocean of carnations.

She hadn't returned to either realm after that, simply faded in the wind.

And now the flowers danced as she entered yet another empty space.

-

The flowers danced as you entered our lands.

They had been spoken to Arwen when she went through the mist, crossing the great ocean wide. Leaving her gasping for breath in a world that was not hers.

Fae magic was cruel.

The flowers danced as she wandered their fields, knowing that she would never belong in Elysium. It wasn't a space for human children, no matter their friendship with the fae.

Yet the flowers danced nonetheless when she entered their world.
