    "Thank you for today, Miss Halley." A woman in her late 40's beamed at Saige as she gracefully exited the clinic, waving her hands. She was a regular at Luxe Luminance, the upscale skin clinic where Saige worked psrt-time as an esthetician.

    Saige flashed a sweet smile at the woman before turning to Harper, the receptionist. "She's my last client, right?"

    Harper glanced at the laptop infront of her and nodded. "Yup, you're all set. Your next appointment's tomorrow so... I think you're good to go."

    Saige checked her watch. 11:29 AM. She was off a little earlier than she'd expected.

    "Thanks, Harp." Saige said, heading towards the back rooms. "I'm gonna head out in a while. Will you be okay here?"

    "Of course. Have fun with Mr. Starkey!" Harper shot her a playful wink.

    Saige only laughs at that and headed to retrieve her bag, her mind immediately goes to remember what had happened last week. She remembered his words; his honesty and vulnerability. He had put himself out there, and she didn't know what to make of it. Still, she tries to brush it off, letting herself enjoy the Drew he was showing her.

    After their conversation on the rooftop deck of their apartment complex, Drew had become more comfortable around her. He was more talkative and had begun to crack jokes as if they were long-time friends. It was like he'd completely changed himself up after having a heart-to-heart talk with Saige.

    Saige's heart warmed at that and she couldn't help the little shriek that escaped her throat. She then fans herself with her hands, trying to breathe in and out. A little lunch with Drew wouldn't hurt, right? They were just friends getting food. At least, that's what it was for him.

    But for Saige? It was a fool's paradise. She was practically sitting front-row seat on the "maybe he likes me back" train just waiting to plummet. Nevertheless, she didn't want to hop off that train. If it was eventually gonna crash, she might as well enjoy the ride.

    A few moments later, Saige found herself inside Drew's car.

    "You get off early today?" Drew gave her a soft smile, all while gripping the wheel, navigating the car out of the parking lot and onto the highway.

    "Yeah." Saige replied simply.

    "Yeah?" He echoed, the corner of his lips tugging into a soft, teasing smile.

    Saige might as well have died right there and then. A tease—that's what he was. Ever since that night on the rooftop deck, when Saige openly confessed she liked him, Drew seemed to take every opportunity the following days to tease her. It was as if he knew exactly how much it affected her; how much power he had over her. Each time he did it, it's like her stomach fell and erupted in butterflies all at once.

    Was he just using her as a distraction from the breakup? Or was there something real between them?

    The question lingered in Saige's mind all the time, twisting like a knife. It was gut-wrenching. But she didn't mind because she liked him. And when you liked someone, it reaches a point where you'd allow them to hurt you just to keep them in your life. Every moment with Drew felt like a gamble—one she was willing to play, even if it meant risking her heart.
