Aliyah couldn't get Matt out of her mind as she drove to the Mexican restaurant her mom picked out. She was going back and forth in her head about what to do. She wants Matt because he treats her well plus he likes her for her and she sees that now. On the other hand, she feels like she's gonna hurt him again after the whole "Vinnie scandal" and she doesn't think she's good enough for him. It's a repetitive cycle in her head because everytime she finds a new reason to go after Matt, those thoughts roll right back up.
She parked in the parking lot and turned off her music before taking a deep breath. She knew Van and their mom were already sitting down at a table inside. She swiftly got out of her white audi with her purse hanging off her shoulder. She was excited to see her mom but she knew she was gonna ask about everyone, especially Matt. And Aliyah also knew Van, and knew she was gonna tell her mom everything.
She walked into the front door of the restaurant and greeted the hostess before saying, "The name is under Montgomery. I was told they were here already." Aliyah smiled which made the hostess nod and check the screen in front of to double check. "Right this way." She gave a polite smile and started walking towards the back and walked to this booth, "Here you go, Miss." She sent the menu down beside Van and walked away.
Aliyah sat down beside her sister after hugging her mom in greeting. "Hey guys! What did I miss?" Aliyah smiled more while setting her purse beside Van who rolled her eyes. "Hey babe! We were talking about Jordan and you know, partners..." Her mom started which made Aliyah's mouth agape with a chip in her mouth. She covered her mouth with her hand to finish chewing. "Yeah, Jordan is great. Always thought so and I always will be." Aliyah nodded at the two which made Van roll her eyes.
"What mom is trying to ask is, what is going on between you and Matt?" Van smirked which made Aliyah deflate, "Oh brother. Nothing, at least not at the moment. He's in Boston right now, I can't do anything and I still have to think."
"Well, are you thinking or overthinking?" Cheyenne asked her oldest daughter, in all seriousness, which made Aliyah jump a little. Her mom was great at giving advice but she wasn't used to it herself, she usually gave the advice to Van cause she needed most. Aliyah was always pretty independent and she always felt like she knew what she wanted. "Well, maybe I am overthinking but overthinking for the right reasons." Aliyah shrugged before she saw her mother's eyebrows furrow. "That's not a thing. Honey, when I met Matt, he was just amazing. I was really hoping you would like him." She sadly smiled at her and it made Aliyah frown, "I do like him. It's just too difficult."
"When have you ever not tried something because it was too difficult? What are you afraid of?" She stared at Aliyah, the daughter felt like she was getting a scolding like she was eight years old again. "I don't wanna hurt him like I have before." Aliyah grabbed another chip and dipped it into the salsa while Van scoffed.
"You know Matt was totally overreacting with that situation, right? And he knows it. He doesn't care anymore so why do you?" Van looked at her older sister beside her. Aliyah turned her head and truly looked at her sister, "I don't know.." she mumbled. Matt didn't care about the situation anymore because if he did, he wouldn't be friends with her or want to be with her.
"You're holding onto the past but it doesn't define you. I would say, 'You made a mistake' but you didn't do anything wrong at all and Alex and Matt shouldn't have been so mad at you without hearing your side of the story first. They overreacted and Alex has told you that already so why don't you believe it?" Van asked her sister again who just looked speechless, "I don't know." Aliyah spoke a tiny bit louder than a mumble.
"People are always gonna have things to say, on social media or to you face, people always have to say their opinion. That's when you ignore it, put some blinders on cause your happiness is way more important than making people on the internet happy. Just be with him already cause I know you want too." Van smiled and it was the first time in awhile that Aliyah actually removed any negative thoughts in her mind.
She grabbed her phone from the table. She was clicking some buttons, typed a little, than clicked some buttons again. "HELLO?! Did you listen to anything I just said? What are you doing?" Van looked confused and looked at her mom who just shrugged.
"I just bought a plane ticket to Boston for tomorrow morning." Aliyah put her phone back on the table and smiled at her family who just squealed at her a second later.
