31| typical sibling culture
It's comical how days seem to pass by in the blink of an eye. Mornings projecting to evenings and those evenings eventually preceding to serene nights. Many things take place in those days, daily schedules trying to fit in those sixteen hours - the rest seven-eight hours consumed in sleeping.
It was a similar case in your life.
A week and a half had dwindled since the accident. Yoongi was put to bed rest for two months. Several precautionary measures were assigned to him along with a few medications prescribed for when he senses pain. A wheelchair was also provided in order to help him move around.
He is not allowed to stand even the slightest. If he does, the tissues of his limbs might tear down as they're still fragile- were the departing words of the doctor because after that Yoongi was sent home.
You were of course very happy when he was back home. You had thought that Namjoon and Jin- after they come back from university- would be enough company to keep him sane but apparently, that was not it.
He asked them to not bother visiting him everyday since they come back from university exhausted and sleepy- which was true- and drop by only when required. When they had questioned him on how would he tend to his needs without any help, his answer was quite obvious- Aera exists.
It's not like you never helped him because c'mon, how would a for the time being leg-less grandpa lounge around the house with no one to push his wheelchair nor pick up his stinky socks?
So yeah, that's how you practically became his slave. You knew that evil smirk meant trouble when he had witnessed the confused look on your face while the couple left quite earlier that afternoon.
It had been four days since then, four days since you have the urge to break his neck and feed him to sharks.
Helping him brush his teeth, wash his hair, change his clothes (except pants of course), pick his whiffy socks and underwear, laundering them plus fold them and neatly stack them in his closet, make his bed, were a few examples of his mastery. Not to mention rolling his ass around on the wheelchair every.single.minute. because evidently, he cannot seem to sit still.
Typical sibling culture, really. Afterall it is an unspoken rule between all the siblings around the world to irritate each other at any given chance until one of them snaps and then welp- world war III.
The fact that you had exam season ongoing wasn't helping either.
Though last night was a bit hectic because it was the first time after the accident that Yoongi felt pain shoot up his legs till his spine. It was a good thing because finally he was able to feel his numb legs but the pain that came with it was immense as he hasn't used his legs for almost two weeks now.
It was probably very rare to see Min Yoongi cry but he did last night. The sight you regarded was very aching as he kept thrashing in his bed, complaining about the unbearable pain along with tears running down his pale cheeks and soaking the pillow beneath.
You had tried your best to help soothe the pain by constantly placing hot water packs under his legs and in the area near the spine where it hurt the most. You had also applied pain relief gel on his entire back and supplied the medicines prescribed into his mouth with great difficulty. It did help him calm down a fraction and as the effect of the medicines started to kick in, he became drowsy and eventually slept.
It was not easy. It went on till midnight and that's the reason why you were rubbing your droopy eyes as you came trudging out of the exam hall. It was your first exam today; chemistry.
You were glad you had studied chemistry beforehand and did not require intense study sessions. You had revised the chapters yesterday evening itself and that's why you didn't bother revising in the morning because you were already late in reaching school thanks to the events of last night as well as your cursed alarm clock.
Yoongi was still asleep when you had left, so in a hurry, you had called Hoseok and had asked him to skip class to stay with your brother as he didn't have his dance classes today because Yoongi would need a helping hand when he wakes up. You had explained the situation to Hoseok so you could only hope he was doing fine. It was only a matter of time till you reached home anyway.
Striding past several students, you decided to grab lunch from the canteen before heading to the library to collect study guides for your next exam - which was Mathematics - in five days.
After purchasing a bibimbap sandwich neatly wrapped in aluminium foil, you strutted for the exit but were stopped by a figure entering the bustling hallways.
"Oh, hey," Jungkook chimed with a grin. He was adorned in a red hoodie and whitewashed denim jeans, his chestnut locks messily sitting atop his head but still somehow doing a good job at making him appear hunky.
You offered him a smile. "Hey."
The last time you had seen each other was during the day Yoongi had departed the hospital. He was present that day and all the other days to help you take care of your brother, to help calm down your anxiousness when Yoongi delayed waking up from the sedatives induced in him, to make you eat your meals on time, to hug and comfort you whenever you felt upset and to make you laugh with his silly jokes. It was only for four days but he was there all along.
Your heart can't help but grow more fond towards him.
"How was the exam?" Snapping out of your dreamy haze - which consisted of you practically throwing heart eyes at him - you blinked.
"Oh, um it was smooth. Neither tough nor easy. What about you?" You asked.
"It was okay-ish. I mean it was tough but I'm certain I'll score good marks." He shrugged.
You nodded your head. You had seen him in the exam hall when you had barged in like a bull high on weed. He was seated a few rows ahead of you, the answer sheets already distributed and one in his hands. He had not lifted his head up to acknowledge your presence as he was engrossed in reading the questions.
You had pouted at that because it had been several days since you had last met due to your busy studying schedules but he had caught your hand - when you passed by him - and squeezed it in reassurance implying that he indeed knew about your attendance and also to wish you good luck. Maybe that's the reason why your cheeks had glowed pink and joy radiated off of you throughout the assessment.
"So, where are you heading to?" He questioned, gesturing at your untouched sandwich.
"Just the library. Have to collect a few study guides for our math exam. Wanna um tag along?" You hopefully asked. You really wanted to spend some time with him.
His face brightened. "Sure!" He exclaimed a bit too loudly as various gazes stared at him. You had to purse your lips to not laugh when you noticed the faint blush rise to his cheeks.
He cleared his throat, "I-I mean sure, why not. I will just uh get my lunch first, yeah?" He pointed at the canteen before wandering off not waiting for your reply.
Guess you weren't the only one excited.

"Calculus I, statistics and…?"
"Algebra." You hummed before picking up the mentioned guide.
Numerous study guides were scattered around the table where you both currently stood. You had asked the librarian to escort you towards the study materials area. Instead of how you had imagined the books to be - neatly placed in the shelves and labelled accordingly - you were met with a horrendous sight.
Books upon books were piled up on a particular table in a corner, some with their pages creased and some torn.
We still have several books left to arrange properly since the shelves have not yet arrived- was what the curator had replied with upon noticing your bewildered faces.
So here you were, carefully rummaging through the mountain of books to not damage them any further, and Jungkook being the absolute sweetheart he was helping you sort them out.
"What about Geometry and Probability?" You furrowed your brows when you couldn't locate the said books in the mess.
"Those two topics will be taught next year." Jungkook replied.
You bobbed your head in understanding before hoisting the guides in your left arm.
"They've kept the easy stuff for the end huh?" Jungkook chuckled, "Yup."
"Thanks for helping me out." You smiled at him in gratitude. You would've probably become one with the hodgepodge below without his assistance.
"Ah, anytime. How's Yoongi hyung doing by the way?" He curiously questioned.
You mentally rolled your eyes. "He's been healing well so far. Just felt some physical pain last night but he is starting to feel his legs more than before so it's progress I guess." You flagged and he shook his head.
A moment or two of comfortable silence passed before he spoke again.
"I actually wanted to ask you about something," He scratched his nape; a habit of his when he's nervous, you noted.
"Yeah go ahead, what is it?" You delivered him an encouraging smile.
"So um I know we have exams going on but I have my semi-finale race tonight and I wanted you to come. Will you?" He bit his lip, awaiting your response.
You stood there stunned. He wanted you to come see him race tonight. He willingly asked you to join him. It's not a big deal, yeah, not at all. It's just a race, not some date what the hell. But he's asking ME out of all people ohmyfuckinggod- okay, be calm.
"Yes sure, I'd love to." You showcased him your gummy smile. An adorable bunny-like grin immediately overtook his features at your response and you felt your heart flutter.
"Great! I will pick you up at 7 pm then. Is that okay?" He asked.
"Yes, all good." You showed him a thumbs up.
"Okay then it's settled. Where are you heading now by the way?" He crunched the empty foil paper in his hands and threw it in the trash can before looking at you. The lovely smile still etched onto his lips.
"Ah, I'll be heading home. Hoseok's been looking after Yoongs since the morning, I should send him off now." You too threw the foil paper into the bin.
"Oh, I will drop you off then. Let's go." He gestured towards the door.
You shook your head. "No, it's fine, I can manage." He's already gonna pick you up for the race, you didn't wanna burden him anymore.
He looked at you sternly. "Aera, I insist. C'mon."
You playfully rolled your eyes. "Sir, yes Sir." You then mock saluted making him snicker.
Walking near the entrance you were about to step out but were stopped by a well-known figure appearing at the doorway.
"Oh Señorita, hey." Baekhyun greeted in a surprised tone before turning to Jungkook and offering him a grin. "Hello, Jungkook."
"Baekhyunie, hey!" You definitely missed the spiteful look overtaking Jungkook's previously joyful visage as you excitedly went forward to hug your new best friend.
Yes, you heard that right. Best friend.
Over the past week you had gotten closer to Baekhyun given that he was your permanent seat mate in math class. Since the day of the fresher's party you both had instantly clicked and started to interact a lot more. Whether it be about your favourite tv show or embarrassing childhood memories, you could relate to him in one way or another.
Constant talks sparked a pleasant friendship which led to giving each other sweet nicknames too. Inshort, you enjoyed his company a lot more than you had expected.
He was almost like a big brother to you. Protective and caring. Just like Yoongi.
You broke the hug before pinching his arm. "Hey! I told you not to call me that." You playfully glared at him, the smile still present on your lips.
"Ouchie," He mockingly pouted, "Not my fault you're so pretty."
"Oh my god, shut up!" He giggled, ducking in the process as he tried to escape your unserious hits.
Jungkook stood on the sideline, watching you two playfully banter and be all giggly. It wasn't a new sight, really. He's used to seeing you two be like this everyday during math class and he did not like it. Due to seat partners being permanent he couldn't request for a change and that's the reason why his eyes throw deadly daggers at Baekhyun on a regular basis, just like they were doing right now.
"Hey, stob it!" At Baekhyun's effort to speak in english, you both burst out laughing yet again because of how horrible it sounded not to mention the pronunciation was utterly wrong.
Jungkook rolled his eyes, his fists and jaw clenching.
After a while, you both slowly calmed down. "So, what have you been doing here?" Baekhyun questioned gesturing towards the library.
"Oh, I just wanted to collect a few study guides for math." You pointed at the said books in your arms.
"Ah, I see. How was your chemistry exam by the way?"
"It was okay. Not great but not bad either. What about you, how was Informatics?" You asked.
"Pretty easy." He shrugged.
Baekhyun was an Informatics and Mathematics student. That's why he unfortunately shared only one class with you which was math. His English literature class also differed with yours because of different sections.
"What are you doing here though?" You asked him back.
"Just came in to return this Info. reader." You had seen the reader in his hand earlier and assumed the same.
"Hmm," You then progressed to check the time on your phone. "Oh well, I gotta go now. It's quite late."
"You must be heading home now I guess. Want me to drop you off?" He offered.
You shook your head. "Oh no, thank you. I'm leaving with Jungko-" You abruptly halted when you noticed the empty spot beside you where Jungkook stood a few minutes prior.
"Uhm, where did he go…?" You furrowed your brows in confusion, he was present here just now.
"Maybe he left. It's okay, I will drop you off. I will just return this book and be back." Baekhyun walked off but you paid no attention as you were busy dialing Jungkook.
Two calls in but he wasn't picking up. The call straight up went to voicemail at the third attempt.
Baekhyun returned. "Let's go?"
You looked up at him. "Uh y-yeah. He isn't picking up though…"
Baekhyun rolled his eyes. "Chill, he must've gotten some urgent work to attend. Don't worry he will call you back. Now let's go." Having no other choice, you nodded and followed him.
Out in the parking lot, you searched for a familiar black SUV but alas, weren't able to locate it anywhere.
Despite settling in Baekhyun's car, you tried calling him again but all the efforts were a failure. Worry instantly gnawed at your chest. Jungkook was in no way the type to leave like this.
Drowned in your own contemplations, you never noticed the satisfied smirk that lingered on Baekhyun's lips throughout the drive.
