Chapter 4

Kim knows what these two persons in front of him are thinking as a reaction to his demand.

'How could they sacrifice that beautiful lamb to a monster?'

Now, he never denied he is a monster. With the way he is living, he knows he is one. But he has worked hard, body and mind, for that demand, and he'll be damned if he isn't collecting the reward.

The reward is the reason he agreed to live a life in death.

He isn't dying twice for nothing. He is not that noble.

"Kim, please ...," Porsche pleads. Kim only gives him a tightened jaw and a head shake. There is a defeated posture in Porsche's stand. He knows there is nothing he can do. The agreement is a written contract signed by the head of the family and decorated with the family sigil. Yes, it can not be brought to the common law, but this underworld they're living in has its own set of laws.

It will bring shame to their honor and here in this world, honor is everything.

Kim would be lying if he said he wasn't satisfied with seeing frustration and defeat in Porsche.

This is a late payment for shipping Porchay to London as soon as he agreed to do the work. Porsche knew once Kim arrived at Pattaya, he only had a little time to sneak Chay out of London.

Kim heard the news of Chay departing when Chay was already on the plane. If he had known before, maybe the history would have been written differently.

But that, once again, is not his fault that it comes to this. It's Porsche. If he wasn't conspiring with Pete to send Chay to London, halfway around the world from Kim, in the name of education, maybe Kim would be more lenient.

Pete is next. He just has to find out what makes Pete wounded enough without leaving a permanent trauma.

Porchay is out of the question. Takhun is out of limits. Porsche and his bodyguard friends too. So that leaves only two: Vegas and Macau.

It will not be so hard to kick Pete down a notch.

His vision returns to Porsche. That bastard is the one who dragged Porchay to this dark world. Kim simply plays that to his advantage.

"Now, I'm not a total monster. I won't take Chay just like that. All I'm asking is you guys back off in whatever I do to get him back, that includes Takhun."

Kinn squints his eyes, "What will you do?"

Kim shrugs. "Anything and everything."

"You can not force him ..."

"If everything comes to a dead end, oh yes, I will."

Kinn's mouth opens slightly to what Kim says. How could he say that so calmly? This obsession of his is madness, he thinks. But then who is he to say that to Kim's face with the way how he behaves to and about Porsche?

The Kittisawads have The Theerapanyakuls on unbreakable invisable leashes.

"Kim," he says gently. "That's not how it works. He will hate you."

Kim gives a long stare to Kinn. Without a word, he conveys how heavy his feelings for Porchay are. How unable to breathe he is without Chay. "I rather he hates me but is by my side than not."

"Don't turn to Pa, Kim."

Kim doesn't say anything to that.

Instead, he says, "Are we agreeing to this or do you want me to take a hard route?"

"Hard route?" Porsche asks, uneasy.

"I could've just kidnapped him and disappeared from your world."

Porsche hits the table hard. "I will find you."

Kim laughs like Porsche is saying something comedic. But that is funny to him.

"You're welcome to try," he returns, challenging Porsche with unsettling easiness.

Kinn's hand finds Porsche, trying to calm him down. He also knows, that once Kim determines to disappear no one can find him. He shakes his head to Porsche, who then makes a desperate sound of frustration.

Kim is enjoying it.

"Ok," Kinn finally says.

Kim nods. Of course, they will agree. What choice do they have?

"Now, first of all, I want you to call Pete to bring Porchay home now and tell Porchay to stay in Thailand."

He doesn't wait for answers and goes up to his room to take a bath and change. Kim stares at himself long and hard in the mirror. This past year battling demons has changed his appearance a little.

His body is bigger and more built. His hair is longer. His skin is darker. There are new battle scars, but he is proud of that. Especially the one just above his ribcage, just a few inches from the heart.

He knows he is darker than the Kim Chay used to know. Even his music is darker now. A mix of hard longing and something much sinister had occupied his mind this past year.

That is what constantly killing people does to you.

Contrary to what people think, he wasn't wiping out gang after gang. He used to divide and conquer as one of his strategies and only killed when necessary. Many of the rival gang people are now his people. But still, the blood he spilled can paint a town red.

Maybe Kinn was right.

He slowly turns to his father, who can kill someone slowly with a friendly smile still attached to his face.

Kim shakes that thought out of his mind.

No. He won't.

He won't sacrifice his own brother or Porchay or the kids that maybe they will have.

For Porchay's sake, he won't.

He is the last one to arrive in the meeting room before Porchay and the minor family arrive.

Kinn apparently had told Takhun because the latter was sending daggers with his stare.

"You can't do that, Kim," Takhun says. His voice changes into this deeper and darker nuance, different from his loud everyday self. "Not to Chay. I won't let you."

Kim huffs. "So try then," he says. "Try, and see what that will get you."

That's an open threat and warning. Khun doesn't say anything after that. They wait in silence.
