Chapter 35: The Finale (Part 2)
(!) Trigger Warning: Implied Suicidal Intentions, Mentions of Death, Mourning Character Death (!)
Meanwhile, within The Egg's tentacle enclosure, a thunderous crack! was heard overhead, followed by a resounding BOOM!. The vines above snapped and broke, fracturing into a web of deep fissures. And in a nightmarish turn of events, the ceiling began to crumble. The audience screamed as bits of red tentacle rained down like hellfire.
Tubbo watched as one by one, residents were either buried alive, or were lucky enough to dodge death. The ceiling just above him was beginning to split; he had to move-
"DADA!"
Tubbo whirled around, wide-eyed with shock, to find Philza still trapped in vines. Michael struggled against his grandfather's hold, desperate to be with his father once more. Tubbo blanched- he had to free his family, now. "It's okay, Michael! Dada's here! Just stay calm!" The piglin whined as his father tugged and tugged at the confines that held his son. Nothing was working; the vines were too tight. Tubbo groaned. "Why won't these vines just die?!"
The tendrils above where Tubbo had previously sat suddenly crumbled and fell, crushing the seats upon impact. A certain fox hybrid popped up from behind the remains, flabbergasted beyond belief. "Gods, did you see that?! I could've died!!"
"Yes, that's very nice, Fundy," the goat hybrid voiced sarcastically. "Help me free Philza and Michael. Quick!" The fox scurried on over and just began to pull on the vines when the second nuke landed.
BOOM!!
The sudden bang reverberated throughout the crimson enclosure, echoing off the walls again and again. The tendrils continued to crumble, and the audience proceeded to scream.
"What was that?!" Fundy yelled. "Where did that come from?!"
"I don't care! As long as it's not here!" Tubbo shot back. "Just get rid of the vines!"
This time, when Fundy pulled on them, the tendrils broke clean off. "Hey! It worked!"
Tubbo stopped to stare at the broken and brittle piece in the fox hybrid's hands, but quickly returned to his work. "Alright. Keep going!"
The two hybrids were finally able to free their family just as the third missile struck.
BOOM!!!
The wall of tentacles facing the stage suddenly caved in on itself, blowing chunks of deceased matter back at the crowd. The small family dove for cover under their row of chairs just as bits of vine flew by overhead.
"Jesus, this is a nightmare!" Philza exclaimed. "When will it end?!"
"I don't know!!' Tubbo cried. "I don't know!!"
It was an eternity later when the turmoil finally stopped. Loss and death hung in the air like an omen of despair. The survivors teetered on the edge of joy and sorrow, happy to have lived through darkness, but distraught by the loss of loved ones. Tubbo dared to look up from his hiding place, and immediately fell back on the ground.
"Tubbo!" Fund yelled, helping the goat hybrid up. "Tubbo, what's wrong?"
The halfling could only point straight ahead, lost in a thousand-yard stare. When the others followed the goat's gaze, they too were gripped in shock. The entire front of the enclosure had been blown wide open. A massive hole was left in its place, acting as a window to the outside world, and what a terrible world it was.
A great chasm had torn through the Earth, desecrating the land with an ugly scar. The stage itself was gone, completely incinerated by the blast and swallowed by the chasm. And The Egg was no more. Where once stood an ungodly beast was now a pile of crimson rubble, the bane of the server now blown to smithereens; it was a miracle.
"Tubbo! Ha! Look!" Fundy breathed, excitement coursing through his veins. "The Egg! It's- It's gone!" But when Fundy turned to check on Tubbo, the goat hybrid was gone.
"There he is!" Philza pointed. "Look!"
There, standing at the precipice over the chasm, was Tubbo, alone and silent. Fundy froze. He's not- He's not going to, is he? He wouldn't, the fox reasoned. He- He couldn't! "TUBBO!!!"
Fundy and Philza sprinted over to their favorite goat, each taking an arm and dragging him away from the edge. "Tubbo, what're you thinking?!" the fox demanded. "You can't just- Please, don't-!"
In a quiet, monotone voice, the goat hybrid replied, "We blew through bedrock."
"WHAT?!"
Fundy peered over the edge and stared down into the canyon. Tubbo was right. At the bottom of the great pit was a small patch of bedrock, the foundation of the world's server. At its center lay some sort of black hole. Fundy had never seen anything like it. He wondered where it could lead, what it could mean? The fox made to voice his opinions when Tubbo suddenly asked, "Do you think that's where Ranboo went?"
Fundy's heart sank at that. He didn't know what to do, for what could he possibly say to make it all better? Thankfully, Philza was able to step in. "Aw, mate. Come 'ere."
The Crow Father kneeled down to place an arm around his son's shoulder, only for Michael to finally escape his hold. "Michael-!"
"DADA!!!"
The little piglin dove for Tubbo's legs, clinging to them with a panicked sense of life or death. His tiny hands clawed at his father's, begging for even an ounce of attention. "DADA, UPPIES!! PLEASEEEE!!!"
The anguished undertone in Michael's squeal is what finally broke the goat hybrid. Tubbo crumpled to the ground, pulling his son into a tight embrace. The piglin buried himself in his father's arms as the man gasped out cry after cry.
"Papa!! PAPA!!"
"No, Michael. Papa's dead."
The two Beloveds clung to each other as they sobbed an endless sea of tears. Fundy and Philza shed some tears at the loss of their loved one as well. The server lived on to see another day, but the loss the family had suffered had been far too great. Ranboo was dead, and their joy had died with him. A day of mourning set in; their grieving had begun.
.........I almost cried D"":
I know how bad this looks, but trust me- there's still one more chapter to go. Please stick around and vote to give Michael a hug. <33
