The Game At Yorktown

Alex was back! He walked through the doors of the gym, where he was greeted by Laff.

"Alex! Good to have zou back mon ami"

"Good to be back Laff!"

"I heard zou got promoted to team captain"

"You heard right!"

There was a small silence as neither one of them knew what to say. It had been a crazy year, and it was strange to see it fly by so quickly.

Alex broke the silence first. "Stho, what are you going to do after we win?"

Laff dejectedly look at the ground before saying,

"My parents are making me move back to France and attend France Preparatory."

Alex's smile faded as he heard these words. Besides Laurens, Laff was his best friend.

"What about Peggy?" Alex questioned, knowing she would be devastated to hear this.

"I'm going to tell her after ze game. I know she won't take it well, but she needs to know."

There was more silence before Alex awkwardly said "Well, I'll see you in the game." And ran off to practice before the other team showed up.

A few minutes left on the clock, and it was looking good for America Middle.. The Fantastic Four Dumbasses (as I like to call them) were playing as hard as they could. If they won this game, they could show the school board they deserved the funding for a better sports program.

Laff was doing his usual three point shots, with Alex on rebounds. Laurens was trying his best, but seemed distracted a lot. Of course, they couldn't have figured out this game plan without the man, the myth, the legend,

HERCULES MULLIGAN!

He had become (ahem ahem) "friends" with one of the players on the England Ruler's team and convinced him to spill a bit about their plan.

Alex was trying so hard he completely lost track of the points. All he knew was the game, and all he could hear was the rain clicking on the roof of the gym, like a ticking clock telling him the game was ending.

His ears rang as he looked up at Eliza, and all his focus quickly turned to her. He saw her, cheering the team on, and he couldn't look away.

This lovely staring contest ended when in a flash, Alex heard a loud buzz to signify the game ending. The ringing in his ears abruptly stopped as he heard loud cheering and the excitement of his friends and family.

They had won. Months of hard practice and games had led up to this moment. Washington smiled at his son and his friends, all celebrating their win. The Schuyler sisters came down from the bleachers and hugged the guys.

Peggy obviously ran straight to Laff, hugging him tightly with all her heart. Laff savored this hug, he was afraid it might be the last hug they would share.

Burr stood off to the side by himself. He didn't have a Schuyler sister to hug, and not many people knew this, but he didn't have parents to cheer him on either. Just like Alex, but without Washington. He got a text that took him out of his lonely daydream.

Theo: i got a kitty! Do u wanna come over and meet her? We can take care of her together!

He smiled and replied

Aaron: of course i do.

Later, Alex was in the locker room, cleaning it out after changing. The room was empty, or so he thought. Silently, Laurens walked in and went up to Alex.

"Hey Alex, can we talk?" Laurens said shyly

"Oh, hey John, great game today! You played so well! I can't wait for next year when we can finally join the debate club!" Alex rambled.

"Yeah you are really good at arguing." John said, wth sadness in his eyes.

"Yeah and we can finally enter the essay writing contest! You and I are going to do great things next year, I can feel it." Alex kept going on and on.

"Alex, we seriously need to talk about something." John said, getting slightly aggravated.

"Yeah we do, what are we going to write our essays about? I was thinking slavery in early America what do you th-"

John was done with his rambling. Before Alex could finish his thought, John kissed Alex right on the mouth.

Alex didn't know what to think. Slowly, he felt himself sink into the kiss. Was he enjoying this? Before he could answer his own question, the kiss stopped as the two pulled away for air.

"John.." Alex said softly as Laurens looked at him with his soft, sad eyes. Laurens walked out of the room, tears welling up in his eyes.

Suddenly, Alex was alone in the locker room, now with the knowledge that not only did his best friend love him, but he might love him back.

The world turned upside down...

Again, happy anniversary! I'm sorry I'm not as active in writing as I used to be, but I hope you know I still love this book, and I will be continuing it. As i have said before and will say again,
