A Healer's Story Part One - Silmarillion One Shot

A/n: This is a story of Narndir. He's a healer OC I have who was among the firstborn of the elves. This is a story of a major part of his life and shows how his story really starts. This also will have some intense/dark moments, as well as touch on sensitive topics. So please be advised while reading this (the warning is more so for part two then one.)

Please enjoy the story.

Narndir was bending down by the base of a tree looking through the leaves and small plants growing there. He was gathering plants he has found that helps the small wounds the elves of Cuivienen. It was surprising how many cuts and scraps those who could live in Cuivienen could get. However, it was unsurprising considering Tata and Enel often got into small scrapes either from trying to help others out. That or getting into small fights here or there.

Narndir just smiled as he stood up after he gathered the things he needed. He then turned and then headed back into the village. He smiled as he walked down the road smiling up at the stars. As always they shone with wonder. As he came into the village he had to sidestep a group of elflings who were chasing after each other.

"Be careful," He called to them.

"We will!" they called turning around to look at him before one of them crashed into a tree. Narndir chuckled and shook his head. He walked over to them and bent down.

"Are you alright?" He asked. The little elf stood up and rubbed their nose and smiled. "I am fine Narndir."

"Are you sure?" Narndir asked him. The elfling nodded and then ran off with his friends. Narndir shook his head with a smile. He then headed back to his home. Once he got there he put down the bag he had and walked into the house.

"I am home," He called. A few moments passed when a female elf came around a corner and smiled. She walked over gracefully and hugged him.

"Welcome home," Ilmaiel said.

He smiled and picked her up and twirled her around as he kissed her cheek. He then placed her on the ground and smiled. "Well. You are in a good mood," She said with a smile.

"I am," He said as he kissed her cheek.

"And why are you in such a good mood today?" She asked.

"I can not just be in a good mood?" He replied. She rolled her eyes and leaned over and kissed his head.

"Well. I glad you are." She said. "Tata wanted to talk to you once you got back."

Narndir sighed and asked, "Should I ask you what's wrong or should I want to talk to him?"

"I think it may be best if you talk to him. It actually did seem a bit serious," She said. "Not his normal scraps from a fight he got into with Enal or an experiment gone wrong."

"Alright. I'll go see him-" He said with a sigh. "-but I shall do so later. I just got home and I do smell something good."

"That will be some food for the third meal and no you can not have any." She told him.

"Just a bite?" He asked as he made his way to the kitchen. Ilmaiel had to walk quickly and step in front of him. "Not a bite."

"Aw come on," He said trying to sidestep her. She moved with him and when he moved again she did too. When he picked her up she moved and kicked him a bit. Yet, that movement caused him to fall on the floor with her on top of him with both of them laughing. She smiled down at him and leaned down and kissed the side of his face.

"I love you more than anything my starlight," Narndir said to her as he moved the hair out of her face. "And even if the stars will go out. You will always be my dear starlight."

Ilmaiel smiled softly down at him and sat up. "Now how can I top that?" She asked as he sat up next to her. "You and that silver tongue of yours."

"Say I can have the third meal a bit earlier and we'll call it even," He said. He then got a light wack to his shoulder from his grinning wife.

"You have work to do." She said. He sighed and stood up and offered her a hand, she took it and he helped her stand up.

"Very well," He sighed and kissed her head.

"Now go on." She said with a smile and giving him a small shove. Narndir shook his head and smiled as he headed outside. He just laughed as she closed the door and he had no choice but to head to speak to talk to Tata.

He walked through the village and it didn't take him very long to reach Tata's home. He knocked on the door and after a few moments, Tata came to the door. "Good. You are here," he said.

"I am. Now I was told you needed to speak to me," He said.

"I do. Come in please," Tata said as he moved off to the side. Narndir nodded and walked inside with him. Tata led him inside and asked, "Can I get you anything?"

"No. I am fine," He told him.

"Alright. I just want to give you a small warning. There have been more of those dark riders spotted. You may have more patients coming in." Tata said. "The elves we placed around the camp have said they saw more movent."

"I see," Narndir said. "Yet, is there something else?"

"Well...yes." He said. Narndir looked surprised as Tata grabbed his arms and grinned wildly.

"Tatie is pregnant! I am going to be a father!" He cheered as he lifted his friend into the air.

"That is great but...can you put me down?" Narndir asked.

"Oh. Right. Of course," He replied as he placed him down. Narndir brushed himself off a little and then looked to his friend and smiled.

"I am very happy for you," Narndir told him as he placed a hand on his shoulder.

"I thought you would enjoy the good news," Tata said. "Now I will have a child to show up Enel."

"Tata? Please tell me you did not have a child just to challenge Enel more," Narndir sighed.

"What? How could you suggest I do something like that?" Tata said with a look of betrayal and hurt. Narndir just looked at him with a slightly raised eyebrow. Tata responded with a sigh and said, "No but when I found out it as an afterthought."

"Now that sounds more believable," Narndir said with a chuckle. "Well is that everything?"

"Yes, that's all." He replied.

"You know you could have just left those messages with my wife," Narndir said.

"I know," Tata answered him with a smile. Narndir shook his head and chuckled.

"Well. It was nice seeing you," Narndir said.

"Indeed it was." He replied with a smile as they said their goodbyes and with that Narndir went off heading back home.

"So that's why he called you to see him?" Ilmaiel asked as she settled down next to him on their bed.

"That's right," Narndir replied with a laugh. His wife laughed softly as she laid down. They both were silent just listening to the soft noises outside. She then sat up and looked at Narndir and asked, "Do you ever think about it?"

"About?" He asked.

"A family...I mean us being parents," She said.

"I have. Why do you ask?" He asked her as he sat up.

"Well," She said her voice trailing off. "With Tata becoming a father, Enal being a father, and so many others we are close to starting families I was just thinking that maybe it can be our turn soon."

"I would love that more than anything," He answered her with a kiss to the side of her face.

"I am glad but you need to rest now, you'll do no good to anyone being a tired healer who can barely stay awake." She said as she shoved him back to lay down.

"I do rest," He said with a smile.

"Not enough, I can see you falling asleep at your desk." She told him as she settled down next to him. He laughed softly and just turned and smiled at her.

"Very well. I shall rest," He said.

"Good." She said satisfied. "Rest well."

"I shall my starlight," He replied as he kissed her head again. She just smiled and rolled her eyes a little. She then settled down with Narndir as he wrapped his arms around her. He pulled her close and she closed her eyes as she laid next to him. Both drifted off into a light sleep.

"It'll help if you hold still," Narndir said to his friend who his friend, Malion, who sat on a bench in Narndir's workroom.

"Sorry," The elf apologized as Narndir was lightly wrapping soft cloth over a few scratches that he had over his arm. It had been some time since that conversation and so far everything had been the same.

"It is fine," He told him. "Just be more careful."

"I can try," Malion offered as he sat back once Narndir was finished. "Hey? Something wrong?"

Narndir looked up from his work desk and nodded, "You can say that. There is a plant that I use that I ran out of. I didn't have a chance to get more so I will have to go out and find it."

"What's wrong with that?" Malion asked.

"The problem is that with all those dark riders out it's not safe." He replied.

"Oh. I can come with you and it'll be just fine." Malion said with a smile.

"Thank you but you should rest your arm-" Yet, he was cut off as Malion shook his head.

"None. Besides, you said so yourself. It's just a few scraps besides you enjoy my company." Malion said.

Narndir chuckled and shook his head. "You are such a child." He told him.

"Didn't say no."

"Fine. Let's go." Narndir said as he grabbed his bag and a few more things he'll need. Malion grabbed his spear and a few arrows along with his bow. They left his room and Narndir stopped by main room of their home where Ilmaiel was seated. She was fixing up her harp, one of the strings broke so it was taking her a bit of time as she re-strung her instrument.

"Ilmaiel." Narndir said coming over. "I have to gather some more herbs. Malion is coming with so I will be fine."

"Alright but be home soon. I have a surprise for you." She said.

"I look forward to it," Narndir said with a smile. She returned his smile as he turned and left the house followed by Malion who was just smirking.

"What's with you?" He asked.

"No. Just you two are so sweet," Malion said nudging him.

"Malion. I am learning how to heal wounds and I am sure I can contract something to get you sleeping for a week." Narndir warned.

"Sleep for a week? That's great! I love sleep." Malion said. Narndir just groaned and held his head as they walked through the woods. It took some time for Narndir to find the hearbs but when he did it didn't take long for him to gather a bunch up.

"There. That should be it," He said as he stood up.

"Great. Now let's get going." Malion said. Narndir nods and stands up they both turn and head back. As they waled Malion kept looking around.

"Is something wrong?" Narndir asked.

"I can't help shake the feeling something is following us," Malion said. Narndir nods and grabs the small knife he carried with him. They continued onward as they kept ready to fight and defend themselves. Yet, they reached the camp in complete safety. Once they where safe Malion went to tell Tata and the others what had happened. While Narndir went back home. When he got there his wife was waiting in his workroom.

When she saw him she grinned brightly and almost tackled him a hug. She kissed him excitedly her eyes shining brighter than the stars."What did I do to get a greeting like this?" He asked smiling.

"We are going to be parents," She told him as she put her hands to her stomach. Narndir's eyes grew wide and a smile broke across his face. He hugged her as he lifted her into the air and spun her around. When he put her down he just hugged her again.

"A family." He said softly as he placed his hand to her stomach.

"Ours." She said as she kissed his cheek.

"Well. I for one can not wait. Just think of all there will be to show them," He said.

"What do you want?" She asked.

"I do not care. Either one will be fine and I know that no matter what we have. They will be as wonderous as you." He said cupping her cheek in one hand.

"Well I hope they are as smart as you," She replied.

"Nonsense. They will be like their mother. A wondrous beauty that outshines the brightest stars with kindness, beauty, and grace."

She laughed and threw a pillow at him and he laughed as it hit his face. "Did I say something false?" He asked.

She just sat back and laughed. She smiled as she put a hand to her stomach feeling the start of life building inside. Narndir smiled as he settled beside her and kissed the side of her head. Nothing could ever break the joy that they felt then or, at least, so Narndir thought.
