Save Them Part One- Silmarillion One Shot
"Elros? Elros!" Elrond said causing his brother to blink in surprise and look him.
"I am sorry. What did you say?" He asked.
"Elros? Are you alright?" Elrond asked. "I know you space out when I talk at times but never this much."
"It's nothing," Elros said with a dismissive wave. Elrond frowned and moved to sit down next to him.
"Elros?" He asked shortly with worry in his voice.
"I...I just miss Atar and Uncle Mae," Elros replied. "It's just I wish we could have done something more for them."
"Elros. We were children, we can't blame ourselves," Elrond said.
"It's not blaming myself," Elros said. "It's just I wish...I wish we had more time with them."
"I do too," Elrond said with a nod leaning against his brother's arm. Elros just have a sigh and tilted his head up.
"Elros. We should get to sleep, staying up won't do us any good. Besides, Gil-galad wants to see us tomorrow morning." Elrond said. Elros gave a small nod and climbed into the bed across from Elrond. As normal Elrond was right. Elros gave a sigh and closed his eyes falling asleep fairly quickly.
~~~
Elros gave a yawn and sat up. He blinked and frowned as he looked around. He had to blink a few more times before the fact that they weren't in their room anymore. Rather their walls and floor were replaced with a forest.
Elros sat up and turned around quickly spotting Elrond and rushing over to him. "Elrond!?" Elros said shaking him. "Come on get up, we have a situation here."
Elrond's drifted open and sat up sleepily. He rubbed his face a day asked, "Elros. What is it?"
"Where did our room go? Better question, where did we go?" Elros asked.
"Elros what are you-" Yet, Elrond stopped talking and looked around. He stood up and walked around feeling the trees and the ground to make sure they were really there.
"Elros. Where are we?" Elrond asked.
"How should I know I just woke up too," Elros replied. Elrond gave a small sigh and looked around. He walked a bit away and waved his twin over.
"Here. This tree may be tall enough," he said.
"Tall enough?" Elros asked.
"To climb! Tell me what you see, you are better at climbing than me." Elrond said after a deep groan.
"Alright," Elros said with a shrug. He pulled off his jacket and paused taking a look at Elrond. They were wearing hunting clothes rather than the nightclothes they had just the night before.
"Elrond. Are we dreaming?" Elros asked as he looked at his clothes in confusion. Elrond looked down at himself and shrugged.
"I don't know but let's treat this like we aren't. Since something feels strange here." He replied.
"Alright then," Elros said and tossed Elrond his jacket and climbed the tree after a few moments he dropped back down.
"Well?" Elrond asked.
"Well there is a city not too far from here and we have a problem," Elros said taking back his jacket.
"Which is?" He asked.
"Oh. The city is Hithlum, you know the place that's supposed to be destroyed? Yet, when I saw it it's not." Elros said. Elrond just looked a bit startled his face then changed to the one he got when he was in deep thought. Elros sighed and grabbed his twin's arm and started to drag him towards the city.
"Come on. We have to figure out what's going on, we don't have time to just hang around thinking. We'll think when we have some clues." Elros said.
"Alright. Just let go," Elrond said and Elros just let go and continued on the path. He ignored Elrond's sigh but he smiled a bit as he heard Elrond following along.
~~~
When they first got to the city they agreed to find an inn and get a room. Luckily they had a nice amount of money with each of them that if used widely would last them both.
It did not take long to find an inn and rent a room that had two beds. After that was done they got some food (which Elros insisted on) and sat down. As they ate they both listened to nearby conversations.
"-yes. Prince Fingon will be crowned in two weeks."
"Of course I'm going to the coronation. I am planning to-"
"It's a shame that Prince Fingon invited those horrible elves."
"They are their cousins and the original heir to the crown."
"I know but -"
When the twins looked at each other next they must have realized the same thing. Luckily they kept composed but it was definitely hard. Somehow they ended up in the past to a time when everyone was alive and possibly not born yet. It was impossible, right? It was just a dream it had to be. Yet, Elros pinched himself and winced a bit. No, it was no dream.
"We should get back to the room," Elrond said quietly.
"Yeah," Elros replied. The two brothers finished their food and went up the stairs. When they got to the room they sat on their beds and just stared at each other.
"Elrond?" Elros asked.
"Yeah?" He replied softly.
"What...what should we do?" Elros asked.
"I have no idea," Elrond replied. He sighed and laid back on his bed. He closed his eyes to think but a knock to the door interrupted his thoughts. He sat up as Elros stood up and opened the door.
"Ye-" However, Elros was cut off as the woman who stood outside the door walked in. She looked around and gave a nod.
"Good. You are both here," She replied.
"I am sorry who are you?" Elrond asked.
"That doesn't matter but if you want to call me something you can call me Irieth." She said moving some silvery-white hair behind her shoulder.
"Why are you here?" He then asked.
"To tell you what you should do," She replied. "You wished to help them well this is your chance, you can save them from a horrible fate."
"You know who we are?" Elros asked.
"I do," She said as she walked over and leaned against the wall. "I am just coming to tell you to save them. That's your wish and now you have that chance. You can change their fates however fate is funny. If something is truly meant to happen...it will. Yet, not everything the future can change."
"Who are you? How do you know all this?" Elrond asked standing up.
"That doesn't matter," She said as she pushed herself off the wall. "I wish both of you the best of luck with this. Enjoy your time here with them and changing fate. Farewell."
With that, she was gone. Elros and Elrond just blinked and looked at each other. Elros blinked again while Elrond fell back on the bed and looked puzzled.
"What." Was all Elrond had said Yet, Elros took a breath and looked through the money they had.
"Alright. We have enough," Elros said.
"What?" Elrond asked.
"You heard her we have a chance to save them. To change their lives and based on what I heard downstairs they'll be at Fingon's coronation. We can't go to the crowning of a king dressed as hunters," Elros said. "Come on, Ron. We have a chance to spend time with Atar and Uncle Mae. We can meet our other Uncles, sure they will not know us but...Please."
Elrond looked at him and gave a heavy sigh. However, he stood up and looked at his twin, "Alright. This is too strange and a possible dream but it won't hurt to try right?"
Elros smiled as he stood up with him. "Right. Now come on, we have a father and some uncles to save."
Elrond smiled as he followed Elros out of their room and from the street below Irieth looked up at their window and smiled. She then turned and walked down the street. They all deserved this chance. Besides who knows what will come of it?
