Sana tightly hugged Sidharth's right arm in fear and nervousness while he glared at the man in band-aid seated infront. Sidharth was handcuffed and a constable was sitting on the left side while the jeep progressed to the police station.
Sana shivered looking at the phone screen. It flashed the name "Papa" on it. Sidharth and Sana stared at each other. It stopped ringing for few seconds before it started to ring yet again. This time it was "Mumma".
"Take the call Sana.", Said Sidharth.
"What would I tell them? I am scared", She nodded to deny nervously.
"They will be worried already and if you don't answer now, they will panic.", Said Sidharth.
She nodded in refutation.
"Then give me, I will answer the call.", He said trying to take the phone but she pulled the phone away from him refusing to give.
"I.. I will speak to them..", she said. The phone stopped ringing and Sana sighed but when her eyes met Sidharth's glaring eyes, she nodded and dialled her mother's number immediately.
"Sana.. where are you?", Her mother answered on the first ring and asked in urgency.
"Maa.. aaa.. mmm... aaa..", Sana's mind was blank as she couldn't find words to explain. The police constable behind the driving wheel stepped in the brake causing them jerk. Sana looked at the board outside which read 'Shantinagar Police Station' and gulped.
"Sana.. what happened dear? I can't hear you. Are you alright? Where are you?", Asked her mother being extremely worried.
"Shantinagar.. Police.. Station..", Sana stuttered.
"Police station?? Why?", Her mother exclaimed in panicky tone.
"Maa.. please don't tell papa..", her words were interrupted by yet another voice.
"Sana.. what happened? Why are you in police station?", Asked her father.
"Pa..pa..", she fumbled while the police constable called her.
"Hey you, put the phone down and move your a$$ out of the jeep.", Shouted the lady constable making her flinch. She immediately disconnected the call and got down from the car.
Sidharth was sitting inside the lockup while Sana was nervously biting her nails sitting on the bench outside. Her eyes were fixated only at Sidharth. The man in bandages was sitting in the distance on another bench.
Sana's father, Naveen and his wife, Shanti rushed to the station. They look at their daughter and run towards her.
"Sana.. what happened my child?", Asked her mother hugging Sana. Sana nervously looked at Sidharth which her father observed instantly.
"Oh!! Did he try trouble you as I rejected his proposal? Don't worry my child, I will make sure he will rot in the jail forever.", Naveen gritted his jaws in anger.
"No.. no.. Papa.. Sidharth didn't do anything to me. It was him, that man who eve-teased me so Sidharth beat the hell out of him. Papa, please help Sidharth get out of the lockup. He wasn't at fault. He was just trying to protect me.", Said Sana pointing her finger at the man in bandage.
"Huh?", Naveen glared at the man in bandage.
"What's the matter? Why are y'all causing crowd and noise inside the police station? Hey girl, didn't I ask you to go home?", Asked the inspector.
"Sir, that man eve-teased my daughter and you haven't pushed him behind the bar yet?", Asked Naveen.
"Listen Mister. Your son-in-law has beaten a shit of him. He has got multiple stitches and a broken bone. We can't keep him inside the lockup.", Said the inspector.
"Huh? Sir, he isn't my son-in-law.", States Naveen.
"What? But he claims to be her husband.", said the police.
"How can he claim to be her husband? My daughter is still unmarried.", Argued Naveen.
"Hmmm.. so he had an audacity to lie to us?", The inspector glared at Sidharth.
"Sir, I am not at any mistake. This girl does a prostitution business. I saw them both go to the Oyo room together yesterday. Upon asking he said that he is her husband and started beating me.", Explained the man in bandage.
"What rubbish!! My daughter can't do such shameful act. You better shut your mouth else you don't know what I can do.", Scolded Naveen.
"What will you do? Do you realise you are standing in police station for threatening him?", Asked the police.
"Sir, I didn't mean to give any physical threats. I work for a criminal lawyer as a clerk so I meant that I will sue him for defamation and for passing derogatory remarks on my daughter's character.", Explained Naveen.
"I am not lying. Ask this girl whether or not she was at Oyo rooms yesterday with that man.", Said the man.
"Why should I ask my daughter? I trust my daughter that she wouldn't do anything which will tarnish my image.", Boasted Naveen. Sana nervously shivered and looked at Sidharth.
"Ofcourse you do but look at her face once, you will get the answers.", Laughed the man.
"Is it true that you were with him at Oyo rooms yesterday?", Asked the police inspector.
Sana silently put her head down
"Answer me. Is it true that you were with him at Oyo rooms yesterday?", Yelled the police inspector.
Sana shivered in fear and nodded her head in agreement. Tears flowed from her eyes. Sidharth who wasn't able to hear them until now heard their conversation and clenched his eyes angrily.
"Sana.. you don't have to fear them and agree with their false allegations. It's a question of our dignity. Your fear will tarnish your future my child.", Said her father.
"Don't act smart Mister. Your salary doesn't suffice your needs hence you put your daughter to sell her body. I can lock you both father and daughter behind the bars.", Scolded the police in a tone audible to Sidharth.
"Hey inspector, you are twisting the case and maligning my wife's character. She is my wife. ", Said Sidharth.
"Shut up you liar..", screamed the police.
"I am not a liar. I can show you our marriage certificate as well.", Said Sidharth shocking Naveen and Shanti.
"Sana.. what is he saying? Is it true?", Asked Shanti.
"Ye..yes maa..", nodded Sana in fear.
"Sana? You witch!!", Her father slaps her.
"Uncle..", Sidharth clenched his fist holding the bars.
"Let's go home.", Said Naveen pulled his daughter.
"Papa.. please get him bailed. He is my husband.", Said Sana.
"You don't have a single bone of shame in your body is it? After doing all this mischief, you have an audacity to ask me to get him bailed?", Asked Naveen.
"I love him papa. I asked your permission but you denied. We got married in court a month back. I didn't wanted to disrespect you, hence I kept quiet. But now that the truth is out. Please bail him out.", Said Sana.
"Just listen to her once. I know you are hurt by her behaviour but he is still her husband. If he is in lockup, it will still tarnish our image in society.", Says Shanti.
"I can't do anything. Don't you understand? How can I get bail at this time? He can only get bail on Monday unless the fellow takes back his complaint now.", Said Naveen.
"Then convince him to take back his complaint.", Said Shanti.
"Have you seen how arrogant he is? He won't listen.", Said Naveen.
Sana goes to the man.
"Listen, all this time I was hiding my marriage with him but now that the secret is out, I can prove that he is my husband. You have no reasons to escape the eve-teasing case. If not now because of your injuries, you can still be imprisioned after recovery. Plus I love my husband way too much that I can even expose you in media. I am sure you will have your family and friends to explain after that. If you don't want all the drama to happen, then take back your complaint now.", Said Sana.
The man thought for a while and nodded his head in agreement. Sidharth was released in another few minutes.
"So when are you taking your wife home with you?", Asked Naveen to Sidharth.
Sidharth hung his head down.
"What happened? You don't have any answer do you? How would you, because you stay with your friends in a shared accommodation yourself.", Taunts Sana's father.
"Uncle, I am trying to arrange for the deposit money for a rented accommodation until then can she stay in your house?", Asked Sidharth.
"And exactly how long will you take to save that much money?", Asked Naveen.
"About 2 to 3 months..", said Sidharth.
"2 or 3?", Naveen asked sternly.
"3", mumbled Sidharth.
"Okay. Agreed! Until then don't touch my daughter. I had enough of embarrassment due to your nonsensical stunt of going to Oyo rooms.", Said Naveen.
"I promise I won't do such things..", nods Sidharth feeling mortified.
"Shanti, Sana, lets go!", Said Naveen.
The two ladies follow Naveen. Sana glances at Sidharth who stared at her leave with her father. Naveen waved at the auto to stop it and boarded it.
