[FTO vs. OoO] Past Lovers
A/N: It's a crossover hECK YEAH─ If you want to see more crossovers like this then let me know!
OoO Michael frowned as he stood behind the Grimshade bar, watching as his guild master counterpart groaned with his forehead against the bar table. He's been the one giving him a few drinks, and it appears the alcohol is starting to take effect after the twelve drink. But barely.
Jeez, OoO Michael thought. This guy can hold his beer.
"Ugghhh..." FTO Michael's groggy groan snapped OoO Michael's train of thought.
The son of Athena turned back to the half-sober half-intoxicated guild leader, a mix of emotions showing on his face.
"Alright, I think that's enough for you," OoO Michael cut in, reaching one hand forward to take away the rather large cup of alcohol from his counterpart.
FTO Michael just groaned once more, thankfully, not whining. OoO Michael has his Austin for that.
"But I neeeed it."
Never mind about the not whining part.
FTO Michael slowly lifted his head up once more, his eyes blinking rather owlishly at his look-alike. They had discovered at some point that OoO Michael had come through some sort of portal-rift, it was a mix of the two. They assumed they had to find something strikingly similar for this Michael to get back to his Greek Mythology world.
And that's where they're stuck too.
They had no luck these past couple weeks, so they decided to go drinking (thankfully with no one around, no one knew about OoO Michael hopefully) at the Grimshde bar.
Well, one Michael did.
OoO Michael considers Tomb Juice worse than alcohol, and he doesn't really drink. So FTO Michael shrugged it off and went 'More for me.' OoO Michael stuck as a bartender.
"Give it back meee─ I need to drink more, I can still hear my own thoughts."
Getting back to the plot, OoO Michael huffed as he began to put away the alcohol. So his counterpart couldn't have any more. "Yeah, no, I'm not letting myself drink away my problems." He replied, but what he heard next made his freeze.
"She's not a problem!"
OoO Michael lifted his head up from underneath the bar table, a look of curiosity written on his face. FTO Michael seemed to both acknowledged what he said, but at the same time was snapping in and out of consciousness due to the alcohol. Seriously, he was on his tenth drink or so and he wasn't even fully intoxicated.
Moving on. OoO Michael raised an eyebrow, he looked left to right to make sure no one else was coming, and he leaned in a bit closer. "Uhhh, who's, she?" He asked, wondering if it was a good idea to pry.
FTO Michael seemed to blink once, and suddenly he looked fully sober. OoO Michael saw his counterpart look down with this far-away look in his eyes. OoO Michael was no idiot, even with a single glance he saw the emotions behind those deadpan eyes.
He saw something, someone, yearning for someone else. Grieving. There was grief. And clouded misery. Sadness, pain─
"You probably wouldn't get it." FTO Michael finally stated, now resting his elbows on the counter.
OoO Michael kept an eyebrow raised, he replied back with one of his Austin's vocabulary words: "Try me."
FTO Michael glanced back up at his look-alike with a dumbfounded look, but he figured, what harm could this really do. Most people of Atlantide would know about this anyway.
With a sigh, FTO Michael glanced back to the ground as his fingers tapped in-sync on the wooden bar table. "I had a wife," he started out with a bomb shell, making OoO Michael nod his eye with rather wide eyes. "And a daughter," OoO Michael nearly choked on air, two bombshells, but continued to silently listen.
"Her name was Liliac, my wife. And my daughter, her name was Sabrina. They aren't, problems persay. Nor are they things I want to forget. But sometimes, the thought of them gets... a little much."
FTO Michael stole a peek at his look-alike, to make sure he was still listening. And to his shock, he was. OoO Michael was listening intently, a look of sadness on his own face.
"You said you had a wife right?" FTO Michael nodded somberly to that.
OoO Michael bit his lip a bit, deciding to push a little bit. "What... happened? Unless you don't want to share, I get that."
FTO Michael chuckled breathlessly under his breath, a flash of the past appearing before his eyes. "Might as well say it. It's, good I hear to get this stuff out."
The leader of Grimshade cleared his throat. "Let's just say, there was an attack. At my home, and to Grimshade. I did my best to protect them, but... yeah, let's just say I─ failed them."
FTO Michael was silent after that, choosing to no longer speak.
He didn't hear a word from his counterpart either, and he didn't want to break the silence this time.
Soon enough, he heard a soft wooden creak.
"Katelyn."
FTO Michael finally peeped back up, seeing his look-alike with his arms and elbows against the counter too. He wore this, sad and pained look. It was indeed like looking in a mirror.
"Excuse me?" FTO Michael raised his own eyebrow, leaning himself a bit further against the counter.
OoO Michael chuckled, a hidden sadness behind it as he stared down at the wooden bar table. "My girlfriend, past tense. Katelyn, was her name." OoO Michael lifted a hand up to run it through his hair, then putting it back down to rest his head in his palm.
It was just then, FTO Michael realized, even though at first glance you couldn't see it. His look-alike looked, tired. With a fraction of wide eyes, FTO Michael leaned in once again to listen closer.
"Back in my own world, we have this cave I named, 'The Cave of Erebus.'" OoO Michael's eyes hardened. "Katelyn, nor myself, knew what it was. We were some of the first people in Camp Oasis after all. But. Like the young DemiGods we were. We went in..."
OoO Michael took a peek back up at his counterpart, this, dead look in his eyes. Seriously, FTO Michael thought this was a mirror. "There's a rule, when entering that cave in particular. And do you know what that is?"
FTO Michael wordlessly shook his head, rather intently listening in. Like this was a ghost story almost.
OoO Michael suddenly grimaced. "When two go in, only one comes out."
FTO Michael stayed quiet, his mouth just barely ajar. He looked breathless... and then the realization dawned on him even as his look-alike explained.
"Let's just say, it was my time. And when she intervened, whelp, everything changed..."
OoO Michael stopped his backstory, looking down with a bundle of emotions swirling through him. FTO Michael seemed to quietly hum at that. Dang, poor him.
"Okay, so," OoO Michael started, glimpsing back up. "I may not have the same story as you, that's to be expected, but. That doesn't mean I don't understand to some degree." OoO Michael frowned, "losing a loved one..."
"Sucks?" FTO Michael finished, his look-alike nodding to that.
They both remained quiet after that, but, the silence. It was, alright. They were both, reminiscing.
And when they both finally looked up at each other, they both did smile in-sync, as if they both knew. Everything would be alright.
"Yo!"
The air tensed up, OoO Michael suddenly snapped his head to the hallway of Grimshade with a pale face. Uh Oh.
"Boss, we're back!"
FTO Michael turned to OoO Michael, firmly but quietly commanding him: "Hide!"
OoO Michael nodded and wasted no time hiding under the bar table, just in the nick of time for the guild members of Grimshade to walk into perspective.
FTO Michael's face morphed into a deadpan as he addressed his guildmates, but there was still a ghost of a small smile on his face.
From underneath the bar counter, OoO Michael too had a tiny smile on his face.
Everything will be alright.
