Meeting her Parents • OFF THE WALL ERA

Michael and I had been together for one month  and a half and we thought it was finally time to take our relationship to the next level. After a long conversation we came to the conclusion that it was time for Michael to meet my parents. Michael was a bit nervous. First impressions were the ones that mattered most and Michael was afraid he was going to mess up.

I was currently in my room, on the phone with him. "Michael, are you ready to meet my parents?"

The line was silent for a few seconds. "Y/N... I know your parents are wonderful people. But are you sure they'll like me as much as much as we think?"

"Of course they will, just be yourself," I assured him.

I heard him sigh. "Okay, Y/N. Take care. I love you."

I felt my face immediately heat up. Hearing him say 'I love you' made me feel all warm inside since the relationship was still pretty recent. Were we going too fast? I don't know but it sure felt right. "I love you too, Michael."

I hung up the phone and jumped out of bed. Time to get ready.

I had spent the afternoon getting ready  for tonight's dinner. My parents were glad they were finally going to be able to meet their daughter's boyfriend. They obviously knew who he was, but hadn't had the opportunity to really get to know him. We all waited in the living room for Michael's arrival.

The awaited moment came when we heard a knock on the door. I peeked from the windows and I saw Michael. He stood at the front door and a black car was parked in our driveway. I went over and opened the door for him. I instantly pulled him into a hug. "Michael, you made it!"

He hugged me back. "Y/N! I have bought some gifts for your parents and you," he said motioning towards the car.

"Michael... you're so sweet."

His driver got out of the car holding a few wrapped boxes. He placed them down in a small table next to the front door and Michael told him he could leave. I closed the door and held Michael's hand as walked to the living room.

"Mom, Dad, Michael's here," I announced.

Michael shook my parent's hand, "It's so nice to finally meet you Mr. and Mrs. L/N."

My mom smiled. "Y/N has told us amazing things about you, Michael."

Michael giggled slightly, a bit flustered.

"I also think you are a nice guy," My father suddenly spoke. "I admire how good you are to my daughter... from what I've heard."

I couldn't stop smiling, with all the nice things that my parents were saying. It's always good for your parents to have a good relationship with your 'significant other.'

"But are you sure you'll be able to give a fraction of your time to Y/N? I heard you have a lot of important things going on," my dad continued.

Michael looked at me with an embarrassed look on his face. I gave him a look that clearly read, "They didn't hear that from me."

"I understand your concerns and I have been taking them into consideration this past month and I will continue to do so," Michael said.

Mom discretely nudged my father, noticing that he had made Michael uncomfortable. "And that puts our minds at ease, we assure you."

"Michael, why don't you show them what you got for them," I suggested. He nodded and went to get the three boxes. He handed one to each of us.

Michael had gotten Dad a barbecue set. "Y/N told me how much you like to cook."

And my mother a jewelry box. "Michael! This is perfect, thank you!"

I turned to the small box that I was holding. I gently unwrapped it and opened the small velvet red box to reveal a necklace. It was silver necklace with a moon charm. It was cute and I immediately loved it.

"Why don't we head to the dining room to eat dinner?" My Dad said as he and Mom left the room.

"Did you like it?" Michael asked.

"I loved it! It's beautiful," I said taking the necklace out of its box. "Would you mind putting it on?"

"Of course not," he took the necklace from my hands and stood behind me. I brushed my hair out of the way and he put the necklace on, securing it well. "It suits you," he said smiling.

"Let's join my parents."
