Abstract names. This is an interesting one.

Example:

Hey, my name is Shaniqua-Mirequie-Rosalina Romarez but people call me Shanni for short.

Hey, I'm Rhonda-Zephyr-Annastasia Goldwhite but you can call me Ronie.

Since I'm no good at random names, I'll stop there. But you see my point. I've seen some abstract, exotic names in my time, man.

And don't get me wrong; I love names which are different, or exotic! But when you struggle to pronounce them, there's a bit of a problem. 😂

Seriously, I've seen books with names so difficult to say. I give up and end up creating my own name in my head as I read it. 🙃

I know what you're thinking. "But Becky, your stories have random names. Citria from Forever and a Half; Indiyah from Best Friend's Boyfriend!"

Yes yes, I know. You could argue that they are difficult-to-pronounce, weird names. But I'm also talking about the long ones which take ages to read on here.

Honestly, some names are longer than my attention span. 👀

Nah, but seriously. Exotic names are great. Hell; you can even create new names! Citria is an original name I came up with, and is the name of one of my most successful fanfic characters. :3

Or, you could change the spelling of an already-existing name. I do that a lot. And I mean, a lot. Most of the names in my stories are like that.

Take Indiyah, for example. That's just India, but with a different spelling I made up myself. 😂 It's longer, but at least you can still tell what it says. 🤔

And on a different note, long names aren't exactly realistic. If you got a name that's like quadruple barrel, then the name ain't gonna sell itself to me. 😂 Ya know? 🌚

Bottom line is ... I won't judge if you have long, abstract names which take forever and a half to read or say ...

... But if I were you, I'd wanna make them short and sweet like Michael. Cos let's face it; he's kinda teeny for a grown man. 🙊

And short and sweet is how I like my man ... and character names. 🙊
