Tom's p.o.v.
"Pick up pick up pick up. Please pick up." I paced back and forth in our inn room at a constant speed, while I dialed Decs number over and over again. I know it's a slim chance of him even picking up, since I've called him a million times before and he never answered then, but I still gonna keep trying. I can't take him to the hospital, they won't know what to do for him. Dec might. He's seen a bunch of stuff over the years, and plus he's really good with healing potions.
I cursed as the red symbol popped up for the seventeenth time that night, showing that the call had dropped once again. I pressed his name again and listened to the ringing, trying my hardest to block out Sparklez' groaning. I know that's a horrible thing to do, to ignore your husbands pain, but there's nothing I can do right now for him but call Dec and hope to god he answers.
I felt my heart stop when a glowing green symbol showed instead of the red one. "Hello?" I heard a deep British voice answer.
"Dec! Oh my god, where are you? Are you still in Dagrun?"
"Yes I'm still here. Did you need something?"
"Is there any way you can get to Urulu really quick? It's an emergency."
"Oh I don't know, it's very bad here Tom. I have snow covering nearly half of my house. What's this emergency?"
My eyes darted over to the bed, where Sparklez was curled up into a ball, hugging a pillow for dear life and muttering things that were unintelligible while blood streamed down his face. My heart squeezed painfully at the sight.
"Sparklez- he's- I-I don't know what to do! I can't take him to the hospital, they won't know what to do! They'll just make him even more sick and they'll lock him up in a room by himself and they won't let me see him and-"
"Tom, you need to calm down. Whats happening to him right now?"
"He's bleeding out of his eyes and he won't stop saying weird things that don't make sense!"
There was a small pause on the other line, and I could hear someone else talking in the background with him. After a minute or two, he returned back to the call. "Listen to me, okay? Take him to the hospital-"
"No!" I interrupted. "I-I can't, they won't know what to do! They didn't last time I took him!"
"You didn't let me finish. Take him to the hospital for the time being. I will come to Urulu as fast as I can, but it might take awhile due to the weather here. When I come, you tell the nurse or doctor who's in charge of him that you want to sign him out. By law, they have to let him go. Did you get all of that?"
"Yeah but...w-why do I have to take him there if you're coming?"
"Because, if he's losing a lot of blood he'll need fluids immediately. The hospital there should have them. When you get there, inform them that you only want him on fluids and nothing more. I don't think they'll be dumb enough to do anything else. I dislike that hospital, I've worked there before and they're staff is nothing but a few idiots with medical degrees."
Well that's comforting to know.
"Okay I got it. Thank you Dec, I owe you so much man."
"You owe me nothing. I was getting bored of doing nothing here anyway. Champwan and I shall be there soon. Goodbye Tom." And then the line went dead.
Take him to the hospital. I can do that.
~
"No you don't understand, I just want him on fluids, that's it." If she asks me again, I think I might punch her in the face. How hard is it to understand I don't want them to do anything else?
The nurse narrowed her eyes at me, like I was the one who was being difficult. "Sir we have to do tests to see what's wrong with him, we can't just hook him up to fluids and leave him."
"Why can't you?" I seethed, hissing through my teeth. Sparklez giggled beside of me in his wheelchair, his eyes still closed and his entire body slumped over in the chair. He thinks this is funny? God he must be sick.
"Because that isn't helping the patient. Determining what's wrong with him and then getting him the proper medicine-"
"Is there anyway I can talk to a different nurse? Like a nurse named Helen?"
Her face turned an even darker shade of red, and I watched with amusement as she snapped her pen in half. She yanked the white phone on her desk off the receiver and dialed a number, and a few short seconds later another nurse came bursting through the waiting room doors. Helens eyes lit up at the sight of us. "Oh it's you two sweethearts who called for me! How are you honey?" She smiled so sweetly, I had to smile too. It's pathetic to say I actually kinda missed this woman.
"I'm fine, but he isn't. Is there anyway you can just give him fluids? I don't want anything else done besides that."
"Of course dearie! I'll hook him right up! Though I don't think you can stay very long sweetie, visiting hours are over." She rushed over to the chair and began wheeling him towards the door that led to the emergency room.
"Does that mean I can't stay in his room?" I asked timidly.
She gave me a pitiful look before shaking her head at the question. "No honey, it means you can't be here at all. But don't worry, I'll be by his bed the whole time, okay? It shouldn't take long, maybe the rest of the night. Will you be okay till then, hun?"
I looked towards the door, absolute dread filling my stomach, and then I looked at him. He looked miserable. Puke stains all over his shirt, blood spilling down his cheeks, his completely exhausted state. He needs help. I need to be able to let him go for a little while, just until he can get some help. It's gonna be okay. He's gonna be fine.
"I'll be okay," I answered confidently. "You won't let anything happen to him, right?"
"I'll watch him like a hawk dear! He's gonna be just fine with me." She smiled warmly, and then she left the room with my husband.
I took a deep breath. He's safe here. I can leave him alone with Helen, she'll take care of him. He's safe.
I couldn't have been more wrong.

Jordan's p.o.v.
I didn't wake up to Toms face, like I usually did. I woke up to a white ceiling and bright fluorescent lights that instantly gave me a splitting headache. Where am I? And where's Tom?
I attempted to sit up, but my head throbbed painfully when I moved and my arms were way too weak to support myself, so I ended up back exactly where I had been. I tried a different tactic, turning my head to the side instead. The room was completely white, with a small counter in the corner of the room that held jars of medical supplies on top of it. There were a few chairs in the other corner of the room, and the walls were covered in colorful posters about body health. The hospital. I'm at the hospital? Did Tom take me here? I must have been pretty sick if he decided to take me to the hospital again.
I spotted the small grey button on the wall that read 'Call Nurse' above it, and reached out to press it. I managed to press it a few times before I withdrew my hand and let out an exhausted sigh. I'm so tired for some reason. I wonder what I was doing before I came here.
Minutes passed, and a nurse never showed up. Talk about bad service. All I want is to know where my husband is, was that too much to ask?
I reached out and pressed the button a few more times, trying to ignore the small IV in my hand in the process. I waited and waited and waited. No one came. What the heck? Is the button broken or something? This hospital really is the worst.
I sighed and tried to sit up again, this time having a little more success than the last. I swung my feet over the bed and sucked in a breath, before sliding off the bed and putting all my weight on my feet. I crumbled to the ground with a large thud, effectively ripping my IV out in the process. Well crap.
"Nurse?" I called, my voice weak and hoarse. "Hello?" I asked a little louder. Where's nurse Helen when you need her?
I crawled over to the counter and reached up, trying to pull myself to my feet so I could actually reach the door and go get a nurse. I managed to get up and steady myself long enough to open the door, but then my legs wobbled and I fell to the floor again, my knees slamming painfully against the white tiles. Ouch. That's gonna leave some bruises.
The hallway was completely empty. Not a single nurse or doctor was in it, not a single sound was heard except for my loud panting. "Hello? Somebody? I need some help!" I called down the empty hallway. No answer. What's going on? Where is everybody?
I got to my feet again, using the wall as my support, and began walking down the hallway very slowly towards the door. Maybe they're all outside for some reason, maybe there was an emergency with another patient and the whole staff had to go and help them. I'm sure it's something small like that. Why else would the whole hospital staff be gone?
I was all the way down to the end of the hallway, where the door leading to the waiting room was, when I heard someone call my name.
"Jordan sweetie! I was just about to come check on you, are you okay?" I turned to see nurse Helen walking down the hallway, a huge smile on her bright red lips. It made me smile. Thank god somebody came.
"I was just in the back room getting some more fluids for-..." Her entire body froze in place. I watched in absolute horror as black hands wrapped around her neck and twisted it sideways in one quick fluid motion. Her body hit the floor with a soft thud, and it was the most horrifying sound I'd ever heard in my entire life. She didn't move.
But the hooded figure behind her did.
He took small strides towards me, and I knew he was only doing it to scare me even more. He could kill me right now but he's taking his time. That fact petrified me.
I threw open the door and limped out into the ER waiting room, searching frantically for the exit as soon as I was out. I didn't see any, just the hallway leading to more rooms. Maybe it leads to an exit. I have to try.
I went left, still using the wall as an aid as I tried to run without falling down. There's gotta be a nurse or a doctor somewhere in the building who can help. I can't be completely alone.
Unless he killed everyone in the hospital.
I held in the bile making it's way up my throat and kept running, screaming for help every so often in case someone could hear me. His footsteps were quiet, but each step he took towards me felt like the ground was shaking. I couldn't help but imagine how everyone I loved would react if he won. Tom would be devastated, Rosie too. I would hope that they'd carry on without me, but it would be so tough on the both of them. What would Tom tell Rosie? How would he explain to her how I died? Would he lie, or tell her the truth? I hoped to god that he would lie. I don't want her to know I lost to an evil I couldn't stop.
I turned a corner, and hope sparked through me when I saw an elevator. Could it buy me some time? If I got on it before he got to me, it would. I have to try. I slapped the button on the side that read 1st and waited, looking nervously over my shoulder as I did so. He was till far behind, but he chose to be, I knew. He wants to crush my hope and kill me without using his powers, just to show me how weak I am.
The door dinged open, and I ran in, slamming my fist against the 1st button again. The doors closed before he even rounded the corner, and I was finally able to breathe again when the thing started moving. I got away momentarily, but I know without a doubt he'll get to me again sooner or later. The doors opened again, and I ran out into the hallway.
On the main end, I saw the front doors of the building, and I bolted towards them. Once I made it out into the dim street and I hid myself in an alleyway across from the hospital, I collapsed. I felt like crying, but I didn't have the energy to. He's gonna find me again, I know it. He always does. I'll never be safe.
I didn't realize I'd fallen asleep until I woke up to the sound of familiar voices chatting nearby. I pried my lids open, only to see a group of familiar faces standing in front of the hospital. I saw Toms face, then Rosie's, and Matts. Dec and Champwan were there too, with Phil, wizard Tom, and Mot beside them. Why are they here? Don't they know there's a maniac inside, waiting to kill them?
"Tom..." I called out, though it ended up being a small whisper. I watched helplessly as they filed into the hospital one by one, until Tom and Rosie were the only ones left who hadn't gone in. "T-Tom..." I called again, a little more louder this time. He still didn't hear me. He picked up Rosie and placed her on his hip, opening the doors and going inside.
I tried one last time. "Tom!" I yelled. The doors didn't move. He was gone.
I heard a dark chuckle sound from behind me, making the hairs on my neck stand up. "They will have short, quick deaths. I can promise you that, dear champion of Ianite."
He grabbed me by the arm, but I jerked away, and with one last burst of energy, I sprinted down the street and burst through the hospital doors. The small group inside all turned turned heads at me in surprise, and Matt rushed over to help me stand as I tried to sputter out a warning.
"Sparklez? What are you-"
"Y-You need to g-go! He's outside, h-he killed Helen! He killed everyone!" I pointed at the glass doors, where from across the street, he was slowly making his way towards the building.
"Everyone except Phil, get out of here and go find an exit. Matt if he comes after you, don't hesitate to use the last of the mana to teleport them all out of here. They are the main priority. Now go."
Matt nodded at Toms words and began pushing us all towards the hallway, all the while he was holding me up so I wouldn't collapse. Tom tried multiple times to fall back with me and Matt as we hurried down the hallways, but each time Matt beckoned him forward, and I was extremely thankful for that. He knows Tom and Rosie are my main priority, and that I want them up front in case anything happens to us.
"I believe I remember the layout of this place," Dec broke the silence. "There should be an exit down this next hallway."
"What good is getting out of this building gonna do? He knows where we are regardless of what we do, doesn't he? Won't he just follow us?" Mot asked angrily.
"Getting into a busy street might lower the chances of him attacking," Matt answered. "But don't worry. I doubt he'll get past Phil and Tom anyway."
The sound of a large explosion made everyone in the group jump. Phil's scream was the most spine chilling noise I'd ever heard, and it made me physically sick to my stomach knowing that I was the reason for his pain. I should've given up when he told me to. I should've stopped fighting and training and rebelling. My family and friends would still be safe. Helen and Phil and everyone else he killed would still be okay. This is all my fault.
"Come on, we need to hurry," Matt announced shakily. He was blurry in my eyes, but I could feel how badly he was shaking as he helped me walk. His family is getting hurt and it's my fault. He's suffering because of me.
"Going somewhere?" A voice chuckled from behind us. Matt handed me off to Mot and turned to face the smiling murderer behind us, who was twirling around a small object in his hand with ease. I recognize the object immediately. Phil's goggles.
"They were strong Matty, but not strong enough I'm afraid. But don't worry, it was quick. Just like I promised dear Jordan it would be." He smiled wider.
"You didn't," Matt rasped.
"I did. And you're next." He raised a hand and curled his fingers around an invisible object. It wasn't until Matt started making choking noises that I realized he was killing him. No. I can't let another person die because of me. I have to stop this.
I tore away from Mot's grasp and stepped in front of Botan. "W-Wait! I'll stop fighting, you can kill me, I don't care! Just don't hurt anyone else! Please!" I begged him. He uncurled his fingers, causing Matt to drop to the floor and gasp for breath like a dying fish.
"You'll give me anything for your friends protection?" He asked amused, turning his head to the side.
"Sparklez don't do this," I heard Tom plead, but I ignored him.
"Anything. Just please, no more killing."
He put a hand underneath his chin, rubbing softly like he was trying to reach a decision. Finally the sinister smile returned and he asked for the one thing I could never ever give him. "Give me your daughter."
"No," I gasped. Never. Rosie is my everything. If the whole world ended and everyone else died, I wouldn't care, because at least I would have Rosie. I would never give her up to anyone.
"Alright then," he shrugged. His fingers began to curl again, and Matt's choking continued. What do I do? Should I fight him, try and protect my friends with what little knowledge I have on my powers? That's my only option.
"Rosie no!" I heard Tom screech, and I watched completely frozen as my daughter stepped in front of Matt with an emotionless look on her features. What? What is she doing?! I moved to run after her and grab her, but I couldn't. My whole body was frozen.
Botan only smiled. "Hello Rosie." He let go of Matt again, and instead focused all of his attention on the little girl a third of his height in front of him. "Are you ready to come with me?" He held out his hand to her, but she didn't even look at it. She kept her eyes locked with his.
"Ianite says leave us alone or suffer the consequences." Her voice was gentle and small, not the least bit threatening.
He laughed in her face. "Ianite said that, hm? Well she isn't here, is she? She's dead, gone forever. Just like everyone else who worships her will be. Now, are you going to come with me like a good little girl and save your loved ones?"
Rosie didn't flinch. Instead she took a step closer, her eyes never leaving his hooded face. "You're a coward." Her hand collided against the side of his head, and he screeched so loudly everyone in the room had to cover their ears because of the shrill sound. He crumbled to the floor and continued to howl in pain, clutching the side of his face as steam began to rise from it. What did she just do?
The distraction Rosie caused was long enough for Matt to regain his composure and shout out a spell, causing Botan to vanish in the air. My limbs became functional again after a moment or two of his vanishing, and I wrapped my arms around Rosie and pulled her against me as soon as I could. Never in my life was I so glad to have my baby girl in my arms. I will never let her go ever again.
"I'm okay Poppy," I heard her assure me softly. "Philly and Tommy are okay too."
"I-I'm gonna go check on them. Um, someone take care of Jordan. I'll be right back." I listened as Matts footsteps began to slowly fade away, until they were gone completely. Is it over? Is he dead? Are we safe finally?
Rosie pulled away from me and turned around so she could see me, a warm smile on her lips as she gazed at me like she was proud of me. Proud of me? I should be proud of her! She slapped the evilest being in the universe without a moments hesitation! "I love you, Poppy. You can sleep now. Ianite says it's safe."
Safe. It was the last word I thought of before I passed out, letting my exhaustion finally take me.
"Tomorrow will be better," a calm soothing voice whispered to me. I hope so, I wanted to say.
If it gets any worse than this, I won't make it.
