Chapter 80: My Fate
Jordan's p.o.v.
When it came the time that we had to leave, I didn't want to. We'd already packed all of our things up and we were getting ready to leave the inn. Steve and the others were already downstairs, but we were still saying our goodbyes to our new friends. We gave the merchant that ran the inn enough money so that the two could stay there for the rest of the week until they found a house they wanted.
Lola and Tiff were sad about us leaving.
"Who am I gonna throw pudding cups with when you're gone?" Tiff asked Tom, struggling not to cry.
I think Tom made a new best friend on this trip.
Lola hugged me for the fourteenth time that day. "It's so sad seeing you guys go. You are gonna come visit us sometimes, right?"
"Of course. But it probably won't be for a while. There's a lot of stuff we have to sort out when we get home." I still hadn't mentioned the fact that I was getting married to Tom soon.
"Okay. Well, I hope things turn out well for you guys. We should probably let you guys go. You're friends are waiting on you. Come on Tiff."
"But I don't want to let em' go, they're too cute Lola." Tiff sniffled and squeezed Tom neck, making him choke slightly.
"They gotta go home, Tiff."
Tiff nodded and let go of Tom, who let out a breath of relief when he felt air go back into his lungs.
"Bye Tommy..." Tiff said in a sad tone, her eyes watering.
"See ya, T." Tom said, his expression solemn.
"Bye Mr. butts." Lola teased, but I could see she was sad too.
"Goodbye Lola."
We left down the stairs, not looking back at our new friends. I knew if I did, I wouldn't be able to leave. I'd miss them too much. I'd never forget Tiff and Lola.
~
"You and Tiff seemed to get along pretty well. What did you guys do besides throw pudding while we were gone?"
"That's for me to know and for you to never know about, sir Butts. T says whats said in the inn room, stays in the inn room. What about you and that other chick? You didn't cheat on me, did ya?" He asked in a police officer voice.
"No officer, I didn't do anything with Lola besides talk about us."
We were camping in the cave again. Tomorrow we'd be home, and then we could both focus on more important things.
Our wedding.
"Hmm...what about us?"
"If you aren't gonna tell me what you guys talked about, then I'm not gonna tell you what we talked about."
"Alright, I'll tell you. I talked about you mostly. T talked about Lola. Now tell me what you were talking about!"
"Yeah, I'm gonna need more info than that. What did you say about me?"
Thunder boomed outside, making me jump. I hate storms. And this cave wasn't helping with it's echoing walls, making the rumbling louder than it actually was.
"Well I was bragging about your bravery, but now I'm starting think I was wrong about that." He laughed at my jumpy behavior.
"My bravery? What bravery? I've went down hill on the bravery since we came here..." Back in Mianite, I was always up for fighting mobs and monsters and gods. Now I'm terrified of them.
"No you haven't, you idiot. Why else would you go up against a giant to help that chick? You may have gotten your ass handed to you, but you still saved T. That takes some serious bravery, Sparklez."
"Well...it just made me angry how pervy that guy was." I thought back to Tiff when that guy was pinning her. She was sobbing and wrestling to get away from him, and he was just laughing at her. The thought alone made me boil with anger. The strong taking advantage of the weak.
"Don't worry, the jerks in jail. So is his little pals. T's safe...so now you gonna tell me?"
"I mostly just told her about Andor. I miss Andor..." I sighed. I always wondered where he went off to and if he was safe. I hope he was. I don't know what I'd do if he wasn't.
Thunder roared again, and I nearly peed myself when it did. I scooted closer to Tom and he chuckled. How was he not afraid of noise this loud?
"You know...I haven't been honest about what I did with T yesterday."
"What do you mean? Not honest about what?"
"I actually went out to the city too, surprisingly."
"What? I thought you were too hung over to go with me. Why'd you go with Tiff?" I was sorta hurt. He said he couldn't go with me and went with Tiff?
"I wasn't too hungover...plus she said she'd punch anyone in the face who stared at me, so I said alright. We went to a store and...I got you somethin I've been trying to find for awhile."
"You got me something? What is it?" I was excited now.
"Can't show you till we get back. Sorry." I could practically hear him smirking in the dark.
"You can't just tell me about something and then totally dismiss it. That's unfair."
"Oh shush, you baby. It's special and I don't wanna give it to you in this dank cave while there's a freaking tornado outside."
"Tommmm..." I complained. I didn't want to wait another day.
"Nope."
"But I wanna see it now...pleeeeease?" I edged on.
"Begging will get ya no where, boy." He used his police officer voice again, turning away from me so that he could ignore my begs.
He could try to ignore me, but I was gonna get it out of him some how. I wasn't waiting another day.
Let's see. How does Tom get information out of me? He usually just forces it out of me with-...
I could totally get it out of him.
I slid a hand over his side and got so close to him that I could see his expression clearly. His eyes were closed in a attempt to ignore me. It wasn't going to work.
"Last chance. Show me." I whispered into his ear, making my voice barely audible to him.
"No. Truck off." He answered, his eyes still shut.
I slid my hand underneath his shirt and began kissing his jaw.
"If you think you're being sexy right now, you're not." He replied in a flat tone. I pouted. He didn't seem to be weakened by my efforts. Who am I kidding? I can't be desirable. I can't even be likable most of the time.
I sighed and turned back around, embarrassed at my failed attempt to be sexy. Tom was the only one who could play sexy. I was just the awkward weirdo. The ugly awkward weirdo.
"Sparklez...would you stop pouting? I can hear your shame from over here."
"I'm not sexy or desirable, am I?"
I felt him turn over. "What are you talkin about? You just gave me blush and a boner. Pretty sure that makes you both."
I blushed furiously in the dark, my face hot as fire. But the comment did make me feel better...I guess I was desirable to Tom.
"If I give you the stupid thing, will you cheer up?" He asked in an annoyed tone.
"Yes..." I replied quietly.
"Fine. I'll get it."
I felt him leave the sleeping bag and heard his footsteps as he walked over to his bag, returning shortly after.
"Alright, stand up. I want it to be at least a little special."
I exited the bag quickly and stood to where Toms figure was, stumbling slightly in the dark. I heard a small scratching sound of a match, and a small light filled the cave. Tom had lit a small candle and placed it on the floor and I could finally see his slightly red tinted face avoiding my eyes.
"Since it wasn't really proper last time..."
He got down on his knee and took hold of my hands. "Uh...Jordan, I love you. You probably already knew that anyway. But uh...I really wanna be with you forever. Maybe have a kid or two. Go on missions, fight monsters, battle gods...all of that stuff. So...would you marry me?" He finally met my eyes, his teary and full of happiness. He let go of one of my hands and shoved one of his in the pocket of his pants, retrieving something small from it.
He held up a small ring. It's purple diamond and red rubies shone in the candle light, making the moment even sweeter. I just stood there for a moment. I just took in every little detail about everything in my sight.
After several moments, he spoke up."Er...you gonna-?"
I shushed him. "J-just let me take it in...I want to remember this."
He nodded and smiled. But after a few more moments passed, he began to shift on his knee impatiently.
"Okay. Yes. Gods yes." I grinned, feeling tears well up in my eyes as well.
He laughed and stood up from his knee, sweeping me off my feet and into his arms. My hands went around his neck and our lips connected, making me feel giddier than I'd ever felt before.
My fate was perfect.
~
I felt wet and scratchy, my clothes stuck to me like a second skin. My head and back hurt too. What happened? I couldn't remember anything...
I could feel my eyes trying to open, and my brain screaming at my nerves to stop moving. A small sliver of light reached my eyes and I winced at its brightness. It made the pain in my head worse.
I opened them further. I saw a figure above me. Who was it?
I forced myself to blink harder and open my eyes wider, trying to better focus on the person.
Brown eyes met mine, warm and inviting. I saw a smile and a dimple, white teeth and green skin.
What?
"Hello there, good sir!" A British voice greeted me. I realized it was the green man in my sights who was talking to me.
He was a zombie. A mob, a creature who was meant to kill me. I knew in my mind that I killed many of them before, and that they were extremely dangerous. But for some reason...I didn't feel threatened. His eyes were so friendly and sweet, making me feel like I'd met a long lost friend.
I tried to sit up, causing me to groan in pain. The man rushed to help me up and he put a hand on my back for support. I rubbed my temples that were throbbing painfully and took in my surroundings.
A green meadow, with mountains and trees and flowers of all sorts. The sun shone brightly on the beautiful landscape. I felt the pain retreating. This place felt like home. But I still wasn't sure what home was. I couldn't remember how I'd gotten here. I was laying on a beach. The sand was making my skin scratchy and hot, so I tried to stand from it. The man put an arm around my torso so I could better stand up. I sighed in relief as I stood from the scorching sand. The man stared at me with curious eyes, giving me a full look down before speaking again.
"Are you alright?" He asked me, his tine full of concern.
"I-I think so..." I went to rub my eyes but found something was blocking them. Glasses. Sun glasses.
"Nice shades." The man smiled. I looked to what he was wearing. A suit with a nice red tie, accompanied by some converse and a diamond sword tucked into his hilt. He was wearing a suit? It was ninety degrees out here! How was he standing the heat?
"I'm Syndicate, but I go by Tom. Care to tell me your name, stranger?" Tom. He was a British zombie and his name was Tom. It sounded like such a normal name for such a unique and interesting guy.
"It's uh..." I had to think about it for a moment. Everything was so blurry in my head.
It came to me instantly though. Captain Jordan Sparklez. Captain? When was I ever a captain?
"Captain Sparklez. And I go by Jordan...I think. I can't really remember." I scratched my head at the fuzzy memories trying to surface.
"Well Mr. Sparkley pants, welcome to the land of Mianite!" He yelled at the top of his lungs, making nearby birds scatter at the noise.
"Er, thanks." I smiled awkwardly. He held out a hand for me to shake, and I took it.
He flashed me a devilish grin, which confused me slightly.
"I have a good feeling about you."
Although I didn't know it at the time, those mere years ago that seemed like lifetimes, I know it now.
The day I met Tom was the day my fate was finally written.
