Chapter 30: Witchery and Getting Stabbed

Ianite had been following me around like a little kid all day.

I had woken up from the exhausting and eventful day yesterday, when I heard Tom shout.

I threw off my covers and ran in the kitchen to see Ianite standing in the doorway with her hand over her mouth and her eyes staring guiltily at Tom. Tom was standing with his hand over his stomach and was breathing really loudly.
He looked up at Ianite.
"You scared the crap out of me! Don't poof in front of my face!"

"I'm sorry! I didn't mean to frighten you! I'm still adjusting to my powers, are you okay?"

"Just please don't do that again, I can feel my heart in my feet. My god..."

I laughed causing them to turn to me.
Ianites face brightened up when she saw me. Today she looked different from her usual attire. She was wearing a white and gold lacey shirt that covered one shoulder, she was wearing light blue leggings with a purple scarf tied over them. Her hair was in a low ponytail with strands sticking out everywhere and her beautiful purple eyes were glistening as she stared at me.
I can understand why Spark liked her so much.

"Spark! I mean...other Spark! How did you sleep?"

"Fine, thank you for asking. I'm guessing breakfast is out of the question?" I asked pointing towards the frying pan full of eggs spilled on the floor. Tom must have dropped the when Ianite appeared.

"Oh I am truly sorry! I've ruined your day..."

"No no! It's okay, well eat breakfast later. Did you need a favor?"

"Oh um not really, I was just wondering what you were up to today?"

"Actually I was gonna go do some witchery and stuff. Did you wanna come?"

"Oh yes! That would be swell!" She clasped her hands together.

"Tom do you wanna come?"

"Nah dude, I need to start building some things today. But uh you two kids have fun, and don't be doin anything to cause more children to be brought into this world!" He laughed forcefully. He turned back to the stove with a hard look on his face.
What was up with him today? He was acting strange...

~
"Ooooo! Is this some sort of children's game?"
I was drawing ancient symbols in the grass with gold chalk, she was standing over my shoulder watching me the entire time.
"Uh not really. It's for spells and stuff, I've been trying to practice witchery to unlock some really cool things."

"Oh wow! Can you do some spells right now?"

"I think I can, but they aren't very amazing."

"Nonsense! Let me see!"

I stood up faced back to her. I raised up my hand and muttered a couple of activation spells and a purple flame appeared in my hands.

"I'm not really sure what it does...yet anyway."
She stared at it in amazement. She crouched down and examined it closer.

I watched as she reached out her index finger and touched it.
She squeaked and pulled back her hand as I heard a sizzling sound.

"Oh my god! Did I hurt you?!"

"It's just a little burn, it will go away soon! Don't worry!"

But she still held her hand like it was hurting her.
I gently grabbed her wrist and unclenched her fingers. It was a small burn, but I still felt really guilty about it.

"My curiosity is getting the best of me, and I apologize for that. It's just everything is so bright and beautiful! It's so much better than the dark corners of my mind..."

She began to sadden and I felt worse. She had been through so much.

She looked up into my eyes with a small smile on her face.
"You've been through more you know, I've seen your internal struggles and I admire your strength."

I blushed. I keep forgetting she can read my thoughts.

"Well...I wasn't unconscious the whole time. I think you've been through much much worse."

She continued to stare deeply into my eyes. She leaned on me and put her hand over my heart. She kept getting closer and closer, until I could feel her breath on me. Her lips grazed mine for a moment, but she pulled away. A sheepish expression showed on her face.

"I'm sorry... you just look so much like my Spark...I keep forgetting that you aren't..."

"...Tell me more about him. What was he like?"

"Oh he was wonderful! He would always protect me, humor me, comfort me...when he left I felt like someone had taken away everything I ever loved. I couldn't cope, it was too much. I cannot believe I let my mind get the best of me."

"How old was he when he disappeared?"

"I never really asked him of his age. I didn't think that it mattered. I knew he was much younger than me, since I have been here for a very very long time. But he didn't seem to mind his lover was an old lady."

"So was his personality like mine?"

"He was a bit more...wise. But maybe that was because his friends weren't as humorous as yours are. I always loved his jokes, no matter how dumb or corny they were. I miss them much."

"Jokes like... do you want to see my rod?"

I pulled my fishing pole from my bag and showed it to her.
She burst out laughing, one hand covering her mouth and the other holding her stomach as she laughed.

"Oh yes, he definitely wore that one out a bit. But I still laugh to this very day when I hear it."

"So what happened when he disappeared? Did he just run away and never come back? Or what?"

"I was...I was just walking with him in the town. We were discussing dinner plans with Martha and Steven. I turned just for a moment to look up at the sky towards the setting sun...when I turned back he was gone. I walked around for hours, hoping maybe he had run off somewhere. I searched and searched. His friends had disappeared too. No one knew where they all went...weeks later when Helgrind announced that he could no longer help me search for a lost hope, I lost my mind. My dreams slowly consumed me as I fell into a dark depression."

"That's...horrible. I'm so sorry."

"I hope someday, I can see him again. I would give up everything to hug and kiss him one last time. Anything..."

She gazed down at the ground and I could see tears forming in her eyes.
I walked closer to her and wrapped my hands around her fragile body. She laid her head on my chest and sighed.

"At least I could see his face again...even though it's not actually him..."

"I'm sorry I can't be what you want me to be."
She laughed and looked back up at me.

"You apologize for the littlest of things."

"Yup that's me..."

My mind was now switched back to Tom. I felt the same feeling of wanting to be someone else, knowing that if I was my life would be perfect. That disappointing feeling that I felt when he called me Martha after he kissed me.

"You shouldn't dream of someone else's life. You have a wonderful life."

"No I don't. My life is filled disappointment and depression."
I didn't want to sound so blunt, but I just wanted to emphasize how miserable I was.

She placed her hands on both sides of my face and smiled while looking into my eyes.

"I know it may seem dark right now, but remember those who you live and care for. They are the ones that keep you from going into insanity. At least that was my situation anyways."

"What caused you to come back?"
She giggled. "It's quite cheesy. I'm not sure you'd want to hear of it."

"I don't mind, I wanna learn everything about you, cheese and all."
She smiled and showed her white sparkly teeth.

"I listened to your praying, your pleads to help you and your friends. I thought everyone and everything that I cared about was angry with me or in a hole in the ground...then I heard your thoughts and watched your dreams. They broke my heart, and I wanted to return and help you. But maybe the real reason is because I wanted to see what had become of Sparks town...I am truly ashamed at myself for destroying something he built for me. Sparks built that town with his own hands. He refused to let me help him, he wanted it to be a gift for me. I didn't realize it would be the home for our family."

I blushed again. Thinking about myself actually having a family with a woman was really hard to comprehend, I know it wasn't me but it still is pretty weird.

"I apologize, I've made you uncomfortable. Should we get back to your witchery?"

"Oh yeah! I got way distracted. Let's begin!"

~
"Oh my! It's so swelled! Does it hurt?"

"Ughhh. What happened?!"

"A stray flame flew into your furnace and crafting table and blew them up! A piece of wood landed in your eye, can you see?!"

I was lying on my back in the dirt with my head propped on Ianites lap. She was examining my eye closely and I kept twitching while she was.
"Stay still, I have to see if there are any splinters in it."

I groaned as I tried to keep my eye from blinking or moving, but it was difficult with her finger tips pressing against my face.

"I don't think there are any, are you alright Spark?!"

She called me Spark again.

"Ianite, you can call me Jordan if you want. Just so you don't get confused?"

"Oh I'm sorry! I didn't mean to call you that...Jordan. I'm just so used to- OH MY GOODNESS!"

She pointed at my side and I glanced over to see what it was.
There was a small but very thick sharp stick lodged in my side, blood was dripping onto my white t-shirt.

"Ouch. Welp this is gonna be painful."

I began to wrap my hand around the stick when Ianite stopped me.

"No no! Let me help!"

I felt her hand go underneath my shirt and feel around my side.
I fidgeted as I felt her finger tips trail across my ribs.

"...What are you doing?"

"One moment, just keep still."

Her hand nudged the stick and I winced loudly as a sharp pain went through my side. She looked at me apologetically and wrapped her hand around the stick.

"This may hurt just a tad, but it will be gone in seconds."

With her free hand, she wrapped her fingers around the stick and pulled.
I screamed from the sharp pain pulsing through my side as she drew the stick out, I stuck my fist in my mouth to keep from screaming any longer.
I felt her other hand cover my wound. She closed her eyes and whispered things I didn't understand, they were in some other language. Her eyes glowed and her hair began to float again.

Then all at once, the pain was gone.
I looked down hesitantly and stared at the place where my wound had been.

It was all gone. Like it was never there.

"How did you do that?!" I exclaimed.

"I too have a bit of magic in me, but I choose not to abuse it. Unlike most..."

"Well thank you, I feel much better now. Could you maybe pull my shirt back down now?"

She laughed and smiled deviously.

"What might you do if I pulled it up? Would that urk you Jordan?"

"I really don-"
I felt my shirt go up and she gasped again.

She saw my scars.

The whole surgery from the creeper incident had left many gross and mutated scars on my stomach and chest.

"Jordan, how did you get these? In battle?"

"No...I was blown up by a creeper."

"Oh my! May I heal these too for you?"

"You-you can heal scars too?"

"Of course! Just not my own. That would be most unimportant and foolish, not to mention Gods only live every single day. A few little injuries shouldn't hurt us too much."

She placed her soft and gentle hands over my chest and began to whisper the words she had before. I felt a tingling sensation as the scars began to disappear.
Her hands left my chest and she raised up and smiled.

"All done! Do you wish to look?"
I stood up and went over to a puddle of water and looked at my chest.
The scars were gone, everything was gone. I felt like a major weight had been lifted off of my shoulders.

"You feel relieved? Were they bothering you?"

"I guess so. I didn't really think much of it. Thank you. So much."
I walked over to her and hugged her again.

"Oh it was nothing! I'm simply repaying my debt for saving me from my subconscious, you need not be thankful uh, Jordan."
I pulled away and thought for a moment.

"Did you ever heal Spark?"

"Many times! He was very accident prone, but he never asked me for healing. He even refused a couple of times, saying it wasn't fair to everyone else who had wounds. But I healed him while he slept, I was too worried," she giggled.

"Sorry to overwhelm you with questions, I'm just really interested in this other me."

"It's no trouble! I'll answer any questions you have!"

"Um...what did you guys do when you found out you were pregnant?"

"Oh my, that one is quite a story. Well, one day I woke up from an...active night with him...I was very sick. I vomited constantly and I couldn't get any rest. Spark was very worried, so he took me to that nice Declan fellow to see what was wrong with me. He found that I was pregnant. I was amazed. Never had I heard a God could have children!"

"None of the gods have had children?"

"No, I was terrified my brothers would shame me for bearing children, but they seemed fine with it. I was also very scared that my child would be hurt in some way, or maybe there might be something wrong with it. But I was wrong about both things, instead of one child I had two, and they both turned out just fine. Even though one of them resents me..."

"I'm sure Helgrind still loves you, he's just confused right now."

"He is not confused, he has chosen his way. There is nothing more I can do to get him to love me again..."
She stared down at her hands in sadness. Great, I made her sad again.

"Martha loves you very much..."

"Yes she is very fond of her mother. Helgrind, he was more favorable to Spark. Spark taught him many things about fighting and peace and justice...I wish he were here to try and convince Helgrind to forgive me..."

"...maybe there is a way."

"What do you mean?"

"I could pretend to be Spark, I mean it probably wouldn't work, but I could try right?"

"Wait...That could actually work! All I need to do is change your glasses and get you some different clothing! Come, I know where his things are!"

She grabbed hold of my arm and we teleported.
We arrived in the end, at the small house where we found Ianite the first time.
She drug me into a room with a big master bed and picture frames all over the walls. The room was covered in different shades of purple and green. The bed sheets were purple and the pillows green while the carpet was a faded beige color.
The room looked like it hadn't been touched in years. Dust covered most things, and grey mold was on some of the curtains. There were stray swords scattered all over the desks and bits and pieces of armor and clothing thrown about the room. The lightbulb flickered, for it hadn't been changed in years. The glass windows were covered in cobwebs and all you could see were huge green vines covering the glass.

She ran to the closet door and dug around in the crowded mess.
She gasped excitedly as she pulled out a faded out grey polo and some green shorts. She also pulled out a pair of green glasses.

"The glasses are a little dusty and the clothes wrinkled, but they are still in very good condition!"

"Have you been in this room since he left? It looks like it hasn't been used in a while."

"No, I just feel like I shouldn't move his things. It's all I have left of him..."

She stared at his clothes long fully.
I looked around at the frames on the walls.
They were all of Spark and Ianite, some of Martha and Helgrind.
I walked up to a dust covered frame and wiped it off with my hand.
I finally was able to see what Spark really looked like and I could see why Ianite confused me with him. He looked exactly like me. The only difference was the glasses and clothes. The picture I was looking at had Spark and Ianite standing on a beach. She had her arms around his waist and he was looking at her affectionately. She was smiling, her eyes closed as if she was having the time of her life. Spark was just adoring her, like she was his world. He was wearing the grey polo, green glasses and green shorts Ianite showed me.
Spark, wherever he was, must miss her too. This photo showed how much she meant to him.

"That's one of my favorites of him. It was before I had Martha and Helgrind."

"He really loved you didn't he?"
She giggled. "Yes, and I him. One day, I will find him again. I'm just not sure when."

"I'll help you. I know how it feels to have your love ripped away from you."

"This Capsize, did you know here well? What was she like?"

"She was...different. She wasn't like any other girl I met. She was adventurous and independent. I can't count how many times she saved my life. But I guess I'm over it. I didn't know her that long so I shouldn't be depressed about it..."

"Time doesn't matter when you're in love, if you loved her then you loved her. Would you want to see her again? Even after all of this?"

"Yes. She was my first love. I don't think I'll ever forget her. But there's no way I can get her back. You said that in the other...universe? That you couldn't bring her back."

"It is true, I can't raise the dead. I would if I had the ability. This other me, what is she like?"

"She didn't really talk to me a lot, not like you do. I guess it was because Dianite had her locked up for so long..."

"What? My brother did what?"

"He locked you up, we all had to go and save you."

"Dianite...he would have never done anything to harm me. He loved me... are you sure it wasn't my other sibling?"

"In our universe, Dianite is the bad guy. But I guess here Mianite is sorta the one whose doing all the shady stuff. Does he know you're here?"

"No. Please don't inform anyone in the town that I am here, I don't wish for my brother to know I am here. I love him so, but yes he does show many characteristics of abusing power and abandoning his people... I'm very worried he had something to do with Dianites death...I hope I'm just exaggerating and it isn't true. I loved both of my brothers, but they did not love eachother."

"I won't tell anyone. I'm kind of an outlaw too," I laughed.

"Oh? And what did you do to achieve this? You seem polite enough to avoid trouble."

"I helped my friend Tom break out a fellow Ianitee. Then we both burned the dudes house down to cover evidence, we were chased into the ocean and I almost drowned when Tom tried to swim me to the island we live on."

"Who was this fellow? The one you rescued?"

"It was Steve, Martha boyfriend...I think."

Ianite giggled. "She is a very flirtatious young lady, but I think someday she will settle down with Steven. Oh! We have fled from the task at hand, here is the clothing, I suppose they fit."

I took the clothing from her and went into the houses bathroom.
I returned back into the bedroom minutes later, with Sparks clothes on. They fit perfectly.
Ianite looked up from her lap and gasped.

"You look...you look just like him...oh my, this was a bad idea."
She looked away and covered her face with her hands.

"Oh...so we shouldn't do this?"

"You can, I just...I can't really look at you directly right now. I'm being foolish, I know...you just resemble my spark plug so much and it's very painful."

"No! It's fine, I'll go change. I'm sorry, I should have thought about your feelings in this."
I took off the pair of green glasses and handed them back to Ianite.
She smiled sadly as she took them from my hand.

"I should take you home...you need rest."

She stood up from the bed and held my hand as we teleported. When we arrived back at my little shack I turned to her.

"You don't want me to give you the clothes back?"

"Return them to me tomorrow...I will bring yours as well. I apologize, I must leave and collect my thoughts as soon as possible."

With her final words, she vanished into the trees.
I hope she was okay. I shouldn't have put on Sparks clothes in the first place.

What was I thinking?
