Chapter 3: The One Where The Story Takes Shape

If you made it through that chapter I promise it gets better from here. I promise as long as the story behaves there won't be any more really, super sad chapters. I'm only the narrator. I can't control where the story goes, but I will try my best to try to persuade it to not do that again. Now that that's out of the way, back to the story.

Mia sits in the back next to the twins. There are Christmas Carols playing over the radio. The little ones and Aunty Alice are singing along. "Jingle Bells! Jingle Bells! Jingle All The Way!"

"Dashing through the snow. In a one-horse open sleigh." She joins in quietly.

Alice smiles hearing a fourth voice join them. She knows better than to turn around a look in the back. She instead looks to her right smiling at her husband. Happy to have her family all together. "Over the fields we go. Laughing all the way."

Matt smiles back at her before turning his eyes back to the road ahead of them. His deep cheery voice boombs as he starts singing with, "Bells on bobtails ring! Making spirits bright!"

Mia smiles and now under the cover of everyone else she sings louder, "Oh! What fun it is to ride and sing a sleighing song tonight!"

See a fun family car ride. Singing Christmas carols, on their way to go do something fun. As a family. The drive through the town. The buildings are spreading out away from each other the further they drive. They're heading to a small holiday resort. Against the mountains on the outskirts of this small out of the way town. A perfect place to go skiing, snowboarding, and in the case of our story sledding.

In another car there are two people tuned into the same radio station playing Christmas carols over the airways. Molly giggles as James sings dramatically, "Jingle Bells! Jingle Bells! Jingle All The Wa-ay!"

"Hey, what do you say we try to get there before anyone else?"

"Yes, yes, yes!" Molly, now excited, is practically jumping up and down in her seat.

"Now if only the people in front of us would drive." He hoots at the car ahead on it's lazy drive. The driver didn't seem all too pleased at this but moved over slightly. Driving past Molly peered into the car. She caught a glance of a packed car who's passengers harly seemed bothered by them, or her brother's impatient approach to driving. As happy a person as he was he wasn't patient when it came to driving.

He thanked the other driver. "That's better."

The radio then started playing some or other Christmasy song and Molly turned down the volume, "James."

"Molly?" He turns to quickly look at her.

"Why didn't Mom come with us?"

"You know Mom's got a lot on her plate this time of year."

"Is it because Dad isn't here?"

Her question startels him for a moment but he finds himself again, "Yes, and no. We all miss him, and you know how much he loved this time of year. That doesn't change the fact that people want Christmas cookies, spiced treats, and fruity Christmas cake. Especially quizzy little girls I know."

He then half leans over and pokes her a bit. The car fills with laughter again.

He smiled and turned up the radio. More music flooding the car once again. He begins to sing along with it. "Gone away is the bluebird. Here to stay, is the new bird. Singing our song, as we go along. Walking in a winter wonderland."

About fifteen minutes later, or something like that. I may have lost track of time. Alright it's four carols later, and they pull up to the parking lot outside the lodge. A large brick and wood farm-style building, houses the rooms for guests, stands in front of them. A massive Christmas tree all set up, decorated and festive looking stands to right of the entrance. The other building to the side over there is where people who don't normally stay anywhere cold enough to do this type of thing can rent skis, snowboards, and stuff like that you know. Oh, and do you see the one that looks sort of like a shed over there? Well that's just a shed. You can't expect everything to be something, but it's there and now you've seen it. Despite being the first people from town to arrive there are a few other cars in the parking lot around them. A few from holiday goers who up until last were very disappointed to have gone to a ski resort without any snow. Two, maybe three can't really tell from here, belong to staff who were called in early because of the snow. Oh, and over on the left over there is another car pulling in.

"Are you warm enough?" James asks leaning over to the backseat to pick up Bath's extra jacket that seems to live there in winter. "Your jacket is here. I think you should put it on."

"James, you don't have to worry so much. I'm not a baby," She says feeling big now that she is twelve, "Common lets go!"

She then jumps out of the car and twirls a little bit leaving small prints in the soft snow. James shakes his head but can't help smiling as he gets out of the car. He opens the boot and takes out two old looking sleds. As he closes up the car he notices a few snowflakes drifting down around them. He looks across the parking lot and that's when he sees her. Standing there in the lightly falling snow, dressed in a large dark green jacket, he can't help but notice how beautiful she looks. The image of a Christmas snow angle, he thinks. Through no fault of his own the poor boy happens to be a bit of a romantic. What he doesn't notice however is the mild annoyance in her eyes. Instead he can only feels something in his chest tighten as she turns and walks off towards the side building with her family. Leaving him staring as she goes.

"James, come on lets go!" Molly calls already trying to run off. James picks up their sleds and starts to catch up with his sister.

"Slow down. I'm coming." He calls backs.
