The Fight (9)
Very slight amount of gore in this chapter, as there is fighting. If you are not comfortable with this, skip Lukai's Point Of View until I say the fighting is over. Enjoy!
Mia's POV
I panted as I ran through the forest, trying to find a good tree. Behind me were the enraged snarls of two pack wolves. So that was his aim. Pretend to give me information but really hand me over. This is what I get for trusting my fox-nappers. There! I took a sharp right and skidded up the white bark of a birch. Trying to settle my breathing, I crouched in the leafy covering and watched for the wolves to appear. "Come on, she mustn't have gotten far!"
"I can't believe you let the fox slip past us! We're as good as dead if we come back without her, Zenix!" (if you get my reference here you are even more amazing than you already are!!) The second huffed. The first wolf, Zenix, turned on his heels and stared the second down. "Gene, if you question or insult me one more time, I swear you won't have a pack to go back to," Zenix growled. "Stay focused, the fox could be anywhere."
Gene huffed and began searching for my scent. My scent leads towards the river. You smell me that way. Quickly, run after me! "This way! I caught her scent!" Gene yipped as he ran off towards the river. "Gene! Wait up you idiot!" Zenix barked in slight anger as he followed (which you should do to me *wink wink nudge nudge*) after Gene. I stood gingerly, testing the edge of the branch before leaping to another birch. The new branch creaked and swayed precariously as I moved in towards its trunk.
Okay, time to get my bearings. If I'm right there should be a hill right over... THERE!! I scrambled down the slick trunk and raced towards the edge of the rocky hill. Scaling a nearby boulder, I looked down to see the bordering river and the clearing I had just been in. Wait a minute... is that fighting?! Why would they be fighting if they worked together?! I squinted, just barely making out Lukai fending off the patrol from the other day. But... Bo isn't there. Where is he then? I shrugged it off and gazed in the direction of the border of oak trees in the distance, the opposite direction I had fled. Whoops... I have to backtrack past the clearing. Rhuan give me strength and cunning for this...
Lukai's POV
I landed a few quick blows before trying to slip past him. Two of his wolves blocked me however, forcing me back into the ring. I spun to face him as he leaped for me, narrowly missing my face and landing hard on his front paws. Backing into the center, I paused as he he regained his footing. "We could've worked together you know," I sighed. "What a shame things turned out this way Blade, but at least I get to finally prove how much better than you I am."
"Ha! You're just lucky I can't kill you myself, you've made quite a reputation in our community flea-brain," Blade barked as he charged me, ducking low for a strike. When he was no more than a few yards away, I leaped and landed, claws extended, on his skull. Blade's muzzle dove hard into the earth as I tore at his haunches, my teeth reaching deep into his muscle and hitting bone. He struggled beneath me, letting out a muffled howl. Suddenly I was shoved off of Blade by a different wolf. He snarled at me as I leaped up, preparing to fight.
Ok the more intense fighting is over.
"Balto! Leave this to me," Blade growled as he stood. He turned to me and prepared to charge again as I got into a defensive stance. I glanced to my left and was shocked to see Mia jumping from tree to tree. But... that can't be her! That creature is traveling through the branches as nimbly as a squirrel! "Well that is unex-" Blade ran at me, snarling, as I whipped my head back to him. I jumped right as he barely missed me and crashed to the ground. "Where's Mia," I growled as I stalked towards him.
"Stop acting like you don't know," he snarled. "You were the one to last see her. Where did you take her?" I huffed and stared him down. "I got here to you and your patrol, Mia was here when I left. So you must have her!" I barked. "Wait, what about Bo? Maybe he took Mia."
"No, he's been with us."
"So, where is she then?"
Scout's POV
Doug and Alexi are on better terms now, so the arguing has almost stopped. "Are we close?" I squeaked as Doug set down his pack for a rest. Alexi sauntered up with a smug look on her face. "I talked to the fox guards," she yipped. "They said they will talk to the head guard and see if they can get us in."
"Good job, Alexi!" I squeaked.
"Yeah, that's one thing out of the way," Doug barked, dipping his head to her.
"Thanks, but I know I'm awesome," Alexi yipped. Doug and I laughed, causing Alexi to fake pout before joining in. "Soon Mia," I sighed. "We'll rescue you."
