Vincent was fuming by the time he made it out of that basement. He couldn't believe that such a small girl could be that fucking annoying. He could feel his anger rising within him and clutched his hands together tightly into fists as he stomped through the kitchen with Brent and Gio in tow and went into the large dining hall where he saw his mother talking to one of the event planners that she had hired for the gathering tonight.
As soon as she saw the sour look on her son's face, Sherri waved off the event planner and told him that she would speak to him later about which flower arrangement that she wanted for the separate dinner tables and walked over to her son and placed her hands on the sides of his face and asked. "My precious child, what is troubling you so much that it would cause you to have this look on your face?"
Upon hearing what his mother asked, Vincent took in a deep breath and then unclenched his hands and then answered. "It's nothing, mother. Just having some issues with the business end of the family. That's all."
Sherri nodded in understanding. She knew what her son was going through with his dealings of trying to run and manage the family. She could remember watching her husband work himself almost to death, night after night, trying to make sure that everything was working out fine for the Gambino family.
She worried that her son would end up like his father and have to be put in the hospital for overworking himself, dreading the thought of seeing her thirty year old son being in that position, Sherri walked away from her son and grabbed a glass of red wine that she had been sipping on through the meeting with the event planner and took a large gulp of it, hoping that the wine would ease her nerves a bit.
With the wine glass still in hand, Vincent watched as his mother sat down in a chair at one of the many round tables that were in the dining hall and then watched as she looked up to him with a worried look on her face and said to him. "Vincent, I'm worried that if you keep doing this that you are going to stress yourself out. So, what I'm going to do is this, I'm going to invite your fiancée and childhood friend, Noemi Rossi to be your date for this evening so you can have some fun and announce when the date of when you two are going to get married."
Vincent let out an annoyed sigh at the mention of Noemi. He had no problems with her personally and she was all around beauty. But when it came to Noemi's personality, she could be a bit of an airhead and a bit of a dope too. Hell, the girl did everything that he father told her to do. When his parents announced that he was going to marry Noemi, two years ago. Vincent knew that he couldn't say no to his parents, especially his mother who had a bad habit of throwing a temper tantrum like five-year-old child when she didn't get her way.
He thought there in silence for a few minutes, trying to figure out a way to get out of having to go to tonight's dinner with Noemi, and then that's when an idea hit him, and he remembered that he still had Lilith locked up in his basement. Vincent figured that with a little luck and sweet talking, maybe, just maybe, he could talk Lilith into being his date for the dinner.
With the idea in mind, he looked to his mother with a kind smile on his face and said. "Actually, mom. I already have a date for the dinner tonight. In fact, I just met her a couple of days ago and I thought that I might use tonight as a chance to get to know her more."
As soon as those words left his lips, he watched as the kind smile on his mother's face, change into one of annoyance. And then watched as she snatched her half glass of wine off the table with her well-manicured hand, and quickly chugged down her drink and then slammed her glass back down on the table before turning looking at her son and said. "Every time I turn around you always go against my wishes. First you brought home that moron named Giovanni into the group who is pretty much a walking giant fool who is horrible at directions and is clumsy as hell. And now on one of the biggest night's of your career as the boss of the Gambino crime family, you decide to ditch your own fiancée for some whore that you met a couple of days ago."
"But mom I want to be with this woman. Can you please just give her a chance?" Vincent asked his mother with a tone of fake sympathy to his voice, hoping that he could change his mother's mind.
Sherri stared at her son quietly for several minutes and then threw her hands up in the air and replied. "Fine! I don't care anymore. If you want to bring that girl with you to the dinner tonight, then that is completely up to you. But, if Noemi's father asks about why you brought another girl as your date instead of his daughter, I'm going to act like I didn't know anything about this at all. Now, are we clear on that?"
"As clear as a whistle, mother." Vincent replied with a hint of mock sarcasm in his voice.
Sherri nodded her head, pleased that she and her son had at least come to an understanding on things. As she turned to walk away from him, she waved her arm up in the air and then said without looking and said in a somewhat stern voice. "Alright, now I need to get back to finishing preparations for this stupid dinner, why don't you go on and start getting ready. I'll see you later."
Without saying anything to his mother, Vincent turned from the dining hall and walked back to the kitchen, leaving Brent and Gio to go upstairs and prepare. He then opened the basement door and went back downstairs to see if he could get Lilith to listen to him. When he finally got down the stairs, Vincent flipped the light on and walked over to Lilith's cell where she was currently asleep in.
Wanting to get her attention so that he could talk to her and get this discussion over and done with, Vincent kicked his foot hard against the metal cell door, causing Lilith to quickly sit up and look around the cell to see who the cause of the disturbance was. When she spotted Vincent standing there in front of her cell, she stared at him with a look of fury and then asked. "What do you want?"
Vincent loudly cleared his throat and the answered. "I have come to make a deal with you."
Lilith stared at him a bit confused for several minutes and then asked. "What kind of deal?"
"The deal is: I told my mother that I was bringing someone special to tonight's dinner. But the thing is I lied to her and in order to fix that lie, I am need you to be my date for this evening." He replied as he kicked at a small stone that was on the basement floor.
"Are you stupid or something? What makes you think that I would agree to something like that?"
Vincent ignored yelling at her for calling him stupid and decided that he was going to try and be nice to her. "Look, if you promise me that you will be my date for the dinner tonight. Then I promise that you will not have to stay down here in the basement, and I will put you up in one of the suites that is upstairs. And also, as an added bonus, I will give you freedom around the mansion. But, in order to keep that freedom, you are going to be helping my personal chef Pam in the kitchen, prepare meals and also helping the maids with other housework that needs attending to. What do you think about that?"
Lilith thought about it for a few seconds as she played around with a button that was on her shirt and then replied almost earnestly. "Alright. You have yourself a deal. I will act as your date for the dinner tonight. But you have to make sure that you keep up your end of the bargain."
"You have my word, Lilith. Now come on let's get you out of their so that you can get ready for tonight." He said and pulled out his set of keys that he had for the cell and unlocked it and helped Lilith out.
Once she was finally free from her cage, Vincent took her by the arm and led her upstairs and into the maid's changing area and locked the door the door behind her and began calling for a tailor and a makeup artist for Lilith. Hoping that he could find someone at such short notice.
