Don't Wake the Beast

When the faculty decide the students deserve a break, they arrange to take them to the mall downtown. But while preparing to leave, they realize one person is missing.

"Alright brats," Shota drawled drowsily. "We're leaving in twenty minutes, so just keep track of time. Also, I need someone to come help us load the bus."

"I'll help sensei." Kirishima beamed.

As Kirishima left with Aizawa, Iida started his daily headcount. "18, 19, 20, 21, 22. It seems that someone is missing." He looked around trying to figure out who was absent. Risu spoke up and gave him the answer.

"Naomi's not here."

"Where is she?"

"She's sleeping."

The other twenty students looked at each other, eyes wide. They had heard tales of unlucky individuals trying to wake the beast, and none of them had a happy ending. Iida looked at Risu who was nonchalantly playing on her phone, completely unbothered by the obvious tension in the room.

"Well, can you go wake her up please?" The bluenette asked, pushing his glasses up the bridge of his nose.

"I woke her up last time. It's someone else's turn." Risu didn't even bother to look up.

Iida sighed. His eyes scanned over his nervous classmates, trying to pick out the one who had the highest chance of surviving.

"Well, I suppose we can decide with a vote who would be-" His words suddenly got cut off by Kaminari yelling from the other side of the room.

"NOSE GOES!"

Never in your life have you seen so many hands fly up at once, all in a blur. Obviously, Kaminari was first with Risu not far behind. The velocity with which Midoriya's hand flew up was so intense that he couldn't stop at his nose, and he ended up smacking himself straight in the forehead. He didn't move his hand though for fear of being chosen. In fact, he had to use his other hand to grab Todoroki's hand and raise it to his face because he had no idea what was going on.

One by one, every student attached a hand to their nose except the one person standing in the middle. Slowly, everyone turned to look at Bakugo who was staring back in confusion.

Iida pointed at him. "Bakugo, you must go wake Naomi. Make it quick."

"Tch, whatever." He trudged towards the elevator with his gremlin walk. Before the doors closed, Risu shouted some advice.

"Don't yell at her! And I suggest you run when her eyes open!"

"Whatever."

A few moments later, the doors opened onto the dorm floor. He walked down the hallway to her room, grumbling all the way.

"Stupid game. Why do I have to go? I'm going to blow dunce face to pieces when I get my hands on him. We should just leave her."

When he arrived at Naomi's and Risu's shared room, he didn't even bother to knock. He opened the door and stomped in.

He was met with a dark room only illuminated by fairy lights strung up over the beds. Naomi was bundled up under at least five blankets and her fan was running on the table beside her bed.

"What the hell," he muttered. He walked over to the heap of blankets and slowly pulled back one at a time, taking it slowly to spite Iida. Once he reached her, Risu's warnings flew straight out of his ears and he shook her violently.

"WAKE UP, MIND FREAK!"

As soon as he said it, Bakugo regretted it.

In pure horror movie-like fashion, her eyes shot open and her indigo irises met his frightened red ones. She sat straight up, Frankenstein's monster style, without breaking eye contact or blinking. There was a look of irritation on her face.

Bakugo decided not to overstay his welcome, and he booked it out of there. Well, he tried. Two snaps sounded through the room, causing his body to freeze three steps away from the door. Terror ran through his mind and he was sure that if he could control his body, he would be shaking in his boots.

Slowly, Naomi got to her feet, and made her way towards him. She wiggled her fingers and made sparks emit themselves from Katsuki's palms. Then she spoke.

"You ever wondered...when you're gonna die, Katsuki?" She asked, demeanor calm and collected. The crackling grew louder as the sparks grew larger with every step the awoken insomniac took. "It could be at any given moment," she began making his hands raise closer to his face, "and you'd never see it coming."

As his palms rested dangerously close to his cheeks, Katsuki saw his entire existence flash before him in an instant, as if his brain was convinced that he was actually going to die. By this time the sparks had diminished and Naomi was right next to him.

"Just. Like. That."

She then leaned closed to his ear and positioned her fingers to snap, and Katsuki felt his palms heat once more. He prepared himself for the mangling of a lifetime. Just as he heard the snap, the small pops of weaks sparks joined it in symphony as Naomi whispered a single word to him.

"Boom!"

Katsuki was dropped to the floor on his hands and knees as Naomi looked down at him. Without a second of hesitation, he continued his sprint out of the door. As he ran down the hallway, he stumbled over his own feet. Clumsily, Bakugo ran into the walls as he desperately made his way to the elevator. Once he was inside, he leaned against the cool steel. He wiped the sweat off his forehead. Bakugo had never felt fear like that before, not even during the slime villain attack. The sensor chimed, indicating he'd reached the ground floor. He did his best to compose himself before stepping, more like bolting, out of the elevator. He jogged back to the common room, wanting to get as far as humanly possible from that room.

As he returned everyone looked in his direction to see if he was back in one piece. They remained silent, the tension in the living area so thick it could be cut with a knife. Then they turned in a different direction as they heard a quiet snickering.

"The hell are you laughing at, Squirrel Girl?" Katsuki demanded of the shapeshifter.

"Dude, calm your tits, I could hear your heartbeat from the elevator. I mean, I did warn you, didn't I?", Risu could hardly contain her laughter, further pissing off the explosive blonde.

"Either way, she is awake now, correct Bakugou?" Iida asked him, hoping he at least succeeded.

"No duh, four-eyes!"

"Good, now I suggest we arrange ourselves in groups for the tri-"

"Iida-kun," Iida was interrupted for the second time in five minutes, this time by Izuku, "You already said that. We're in groups already, Kacchan just has to choose his." Iida readjusted his glasses, his cheeks tinted a light pink with embarrassment.

Katsuki walked through the sea of classmates to where his squad was standing. They were making decent conversation about which stores they would visit when suddenly the noise of a second chime filled their ears. Everyone looked to the hallway as the elevator doors slid open, revealing surprisingly refreshed-looking Naomi, clad in pale ripped jeans, a black tank top, her favorite jacket, with blue and violet designs, and, contrary to her normal checkered ones, she wore a pair of rose patterned vans. She had her school hat on with her trademark artist bag slung over her shoulder, wearing headphones and scrolling through her playlist to find something good to listen to. As she crossed the threshold into the common room, people backed away, so she had a clear path directly to the Shin-Squad where they stood near the exit. She stopped in front of them and looked up, a lazy grin playing on her lips.

"Hey guys, how's it goin'?" Naomi asked her squad casually, as if the past fifteen minutes hadn't occurred at all. They all stared at her, shocked and slightly uneasy. Well, all except one.

"'Sup Omi? How was your nap?" Risu greeted her friend like everyday, not the least bit concerned by the events that had taken place just prior.

"It was alright." Naomi rubbed her nape, trying to work out a knot that had formed during her slumber. "But I think I slept on my neck funny, and had a slight pest problem when I woke up."

Everyone spotted the icy glare that was trained on the back of Katsuki's head, the human grenade too fearful to turn around. A glare so intense, it had even caused Todoroki, Shoji, and Tokoyami, the class' three most stoic members, to shudder slightly.

"Eh, but who cares, right? Let's get going, I wanna hit F.Y.E. to see if they have any new Marvel FunkoPop figures!" Naomi grabbed Risu's hand and dragged her along, spearheading the group of students that were so confused at how chill she seemed.

"Oh heck yes!" Risu pumped her hand in the air, still unbothered by her classmates' scared demeanors. The two were the first to board the bus. They sat towards the middle, Todoroki and Midoriya taking the seats to Naomi's right. Naomi sat beside Todoroki and Risu sat on the other side of her. Aizawa notified them that they'd arrive at their destination in about half an hour, then promptly passed out in his sleeping bag, which had seemingly materialized out of nowhere. A spell of exhaustion suddenly overcame Naomi, since she had been woken too early from her recharging session. She tapped Todoroki on the shoulder while he was teasing his boyfriend about the cute bunny hoodie he was wearing that was complete with ears on the hood.

"Hey Sh-," She cut herself off with a small yawn,"Hey Shoto, is it cool if I lay on you? I mean, your left side is really warm, and it's probably really cozy." She rubbed her eyes not trying to fall asleep just yet.

"Uhm... sure Naomi, I don't really mind." He gave a nod and small smile, before turning back to Izuku, paying no mind to the new weight on his left shoulder. Naomi instantly fell asleep. The class found it impressive how she could go from awake to passed out in a few seconds. A few minutes passed, with Naomi comfortably resting on Todoroki while he joked with his boyfriend. Risu was chatting with Kirishima, who was across from her, when she noticed Todoroki move out of the corner of her eye. She looked at him and noticed he was trying to shift into a more comfortable position. He reached his hand up to gently push Naomi's shoulder, but before he could make contact, Risu grabbed his wrist harshly.

"Don't. Move." Her tone was quiet and full of warning, while her eyes silently pleaded at him. He just nodded, eyes wide.

"Yes, ma'am."

All the while the others looked on, anxious of what would happen. Tensions were high as Naomi wriggled slightly and groaned in her sleep, but she settled once more, and the masses relaxed.

The rest of the trip was uneventful. Naomi never woke up and everybody was thankful about it. Finally the bus stopped and Aizawa stood up in his sleeping bag. Risu and Midoriya noticed Todoroki sighed in relief. His arm was going numb.

"Alright everyone, we're here. You have four hours to walk around, shop, eat, I don't care. Just be back on time or we're leaving you here, and somebody wake up Naomi." With that, he exited the bus.

At the mention of the last task, everybody visibly tensed up and threw glances at each other. Nobody wanted to be chosen, especially not Bakugo. He'd suffered enough for one day. His body stiffened and his eyes widened until his irises were pinpoints in the middle of his scleras. Everybody else had their hands slightly raised towards their face, waiting for Kaminari to yell. Everyone except one person.

Risu had been playing a game on her phone, trying to finish one more level before they left. Once the end screen popped up, she shut off her phone, stood up, and completed the scariest mission on the planet.

Sighing, she rolled her eyes. Then, she reached towards Naomi and lightly nudged her shoulder. A collective gasp filled the parked vehicle.

"Naomi, wake up." The telepathic girl stirred and groaned once more, eyes cracking open and blinking to adjust to the light. She rubbed the sleep out of her eyes.

"Hmm? Where are we, Risu?" She spoke through a yawn.

"We're at the mall, moron. Get up, we're wasting time." She briskly walked off, Naomi calmy following behind her, after bidding thanks to Shoto for acting as a human pillow. Soon after, Todoroki and Midoriya joined them.

Everyone watched as the queer quartet sauntered towards the mall. Soon the rest of the ShinSquad followed after, the rest of the groups not far behind. All the while Bakugou was watching, jaw dropping as he watched Squirrel Girl wake the sleepy terror with no more effort than it would take to open a box of pocky.

"Uh, you good Katsu-Babe? You look sorta confused." Kirishima asked his explosive partner. Just as Katsuki was about to yell at him for being an ignorant shit, he remembered that Eijirou hadn't been there to witness the ordeal, so it wouldn't have done much other than cause a meaningless argument.

"Babe, you weren't there when it happened, but basically waking her up is a nightmare. I just don't understand how Risu can wake her up so..." He paused, looking for the right word. "So effortlessly!" Kirishima patted his shoulder.

"I don't know, bro. I mean, Naomi can't use her quirk on Risu, so maybe that's why." Bakugo just nodded, and the couple walked into the mall without bringing it up again.

After effectively clearing out the Marvel Funko dolls from F.Y.E., HotTopic, and Spencer's alike, Naomi had finally agreed to take a break, as several members of the squad were starving. While others went to collect sustenance, Izuku and Naomi hung back to watch their stuff after pushing tables together so there would be enough seats. Izuku eyed her bags and decided to ask the obvious question.

"Hey Nacchan?" She looked up from texting her friend Finn, someone she'd met on Line, a chatting app. "I have a question."

"Sure ZuZu, what's up?" She asked, grinning fondly at her friend. Izuku blushed, he'd never been able to get used to Naomi's habit of giving her friends various cute nicknames.

"Well, I was just wondering, what is it with you and the Marvel Funkos? It's not anything bad, but don't already own half of those figures?"

"What can I say, I'm a Marvel geek." She laughed sheepishly. "But you are right, even though those extra ones aren't for me, they're for my little brother." Her smile dropped as she stared at the Dr. Strange figurine at the top of the bag.

"Oh, does Rei like Marvel too?" Midoriya asked, shaking Naomi from her trance. She gave a small nod, about to respond before a loud voice interrupted.

"Ayy, what up, Plebs?! We come bearing food! What are you guys talking about?" Risu put the food down and took a seat next to Naomi. Midoriya opened his mouth to answer, but Naomi spoke first. "Marvel, we were talking about Marvel." She told her friend solemnly, signaling Bunny Boy to drop the subject. He was reluctant, but nodded and allowed Shoto to feed him a fry from their tray of food. As everybody ate, Risu started ranting about how much better Marvel was than DC.

"Bros, Marvel is so much better than DC. Their characters are better and more relatable." A few tables down, a small "boom" was heard. Naomi's group turned their heads to the table Bakugo's group was sitting at. Bakugo was standing up and glaring at Risu. Kirishima was tugging at him to sit down.

"What did you say, Squirrel Girl?!"

"Dude, calm down, it's just her opinion." Kaminari commented, cuddled into Hitoshi as the brainwasher ran his fingers through the small blonde's hair. "Besides, why does it even matter?"

"Because her opinion is wrong, that's why!"

"Babe, sit down!" Kirishima's voice turned serious and Bakugo begrudgingly slumped in his seat.

As Bakugou was calming down, Hitoshi stood and walked to the escalators with Denki following close behind. As they passed Naomi's table, where everyone but her was making conversation, he looked at his cousin and jerked his head in the direction of the electric stairs indicating for her to come with them. She nodded, and started to walk, but was stopped by a hand on her wrist and four pairs of eyes trained on her.

She turned and tried to wrench her arm free of Shoto's grip. Her struggling just made him hold on stronger.

"Where are you going?" He asked, his face stoic yet his eyes held concern. It almost reminded her of how Haruko and Makao would get if she was acting too out of character.

"I'm going with Denki and Toshi, Sho. He needs me to go with him." She replied, not letting her voice display emotion and painting a serious expression. To her relief, he released her arm, satisfied with her explanation.

"Try to hurry, we're almost ready to head to the next store." Risu called as they reached the escalator. Naomi nodded as they started to go down.

"So where are we headed?" Naomi asked her cousin.

"First we're going to Pandora so I can place an order, then Denki's going to F.Y.E. since he forgot to actually grab his bag from the counter after he paid while you and I wait for him." Hitoshi answered as they stepped off at the bottom. Once they reached the jewelry store, Hitoshi had Naomi wait outside with Denki. A kind, middle-aged woman greeted him at the counter.

"Good afternoon, young man! How can I help you?" She chirped out merrily.

"Hi, I'm looking to place an order, I can be back in about ten minutes to pick it up if that's alright." He smiled politely at her, hoping that would work.

"Oh,of course dear!," The woman returned his smile. "Just tell me what you need, and we can set you right up."

"I'd like to get a bracelet, with a few charms on it."

"What type of metal, sir?" She began looking under the counter for the charm books. She placed them on the counter for him to look at.

"Silver, I'd like silver please." He began paging through the book closest to him, spotting the charms he wanted.

"Here's the ones I want." He placed the open book on the counter to show the woman the pieces he'd selected. He pointed to a thundercloud with a small lighting bolt coming out, a jeweled pikachu, a sleeping cat, and two jeweled dividers for the bracelet, one yellow and the other purple. Nodding, the woman made a list. She smiled at Hitoshi as she put away the books.

"So who's the lucky girl?" The woman asked as she made her way to the back counter to hand off the list so another employee could get started putting it together.

"Oh, uh-, well," he shifted uncomfortably, moving his gaze until his eyes landed on something that made him feel slightly more at ease. On one of the display cases, in all its vibrant glory, was a pride sticker. Said emotion bloomed in Hitoshi's chest as he turned to face the woman.

"Denki. His name is Denki." Hitoshi said confidently, mentally placing his sweet baby on a pedestal. The woman looked taken aback for a moment, but quickly beamed at the boy.

"Well I'm  sure he's going to like his gift very much! You know, we don't get very many 'community' members at our store, but it's always quite refreshing when we do. The ones I've tended to have always had such good taste." The woman proceeded to begin a story about a person who came in one day to buy an engagement ring for their girlfriend, and how they knew exactly how to match style to personality based on the photo they had shown her when making their purchase.

"Uh, ma'am," he looked at her while nervously scratching his neck, "I hate to cut this wonderful story short, but I'll have to come back to grab the bracelet."

Whipping her head around, she smiled reassuringly. He thanked her and went back out to see Naomi pulling Denki's hair back into braids, his boyfriend obviously in pain from the harsh tugs, but pushing through for the sake of beauty.

"Well shit, what took you so damn long?!" Naomi snarked, pissed off for having to wait so much. Hitoshi laughed as he dodged the punch aimed for his shoulder, instead trapping his cousin and giving her a noogie, causing her to bite at his hand to gain release.

"Noneya, brat. And watch your mouth."He said letting her go.

"Joke's on you, dickhead! I don't have to listen to you!" She stuck her tongue out and finally landed that punch. She then grabbed Denki by the arm, the two of them cheerily walking in front of Hitoshi as he rubbed his sore shoulder. She may be a brat, but damn could she throw a good punch.

Having completed their errand, Naomi bounced off to locate the rest of her squad. She spotted them upstairs by an ice cream stand. She jogged up and was greeted with a scoop of both fudge tracks and mocha in a waffle cone, courtesy of Tsu. Naomi blushed and accepted the frozen treat.

"Hey guys," Risu's voice was muffled by the mint chip in her mouth, "let's go to LunchBox! I heard they got a new shipment of anime merch!" Izuku was vibrating with excitement, his eyes sparkled in anticipation. Any sensible person knew that with new shipments came new hero merch, no matter what the contents were said to be, it was inevitable there would be something hero themed in it. He took off like a bullet, dragging his boyfriend behind him, who was struggling not to drop his cup of strawberry shortcake. The rest of the group laughed at their friends' antics before starting after them. When they reached the store, they were surprised to see the two of them still outside. Midoriya had a frightened expression, staring at the entrance as if there was a chance he would die should he walk through it. Naomi blocked out everything around her, focusing on Izuku, and only Izuku. Reading through his frantic thoughts, she quickly determined the root of his unease.

Kacchan is in there!

Her arm flew out to Shoto, perfectly horizontal.

"Hold my cone." Those were her only words before she popped her neck, cracked her knuckles, and protectively brought her anxious friend in the store.

"N-Nacchan what're you doing?!"

"Taking you to get your hero merch."

She continued walking, directly to the hero stand where, as luck would have it, Bakugo was also looking through the new items. He turned to see his friends(though he would never admit to that status), and his face morphed into a scowl. But the second he opened his mouth, Naomi turned to him, slowly raising her hand. That shut him right up.

The worn out students made their way back to the bus. It was going on five o'clock, and they were ready to just go back to the dorms and relax. Naomi hoisted her bags onto the storage racks above the seats and sat back down. Sliding her headphones on, she started playing her screamo playlist of the day then switching between Line to talk with Finn, and webtoon to read comics while awaiting responses.

It seemed to be only minutes before the bus came to a halt, arriving at the dormitory. Once they had gotten inside, Iida made one of his "suggestions".

"Why don't we go through and show what we purchased during the trip today?!" He was shouting, chopping as per usual.

"Ooh ooh, I'll go! I'll go!!" Risu bolted to the coffee table between the couches to spread out her haul. She laid out a set of Harry Potter earrings, a t-shirt for Fairy Tail, Soul Eater, and Cells at Work. She then pulled out at least a dozen chokers, ranging from black to silver, simplistic wire to intricate lace with jewels to accent. She had also purchased several albums while at F.Y.E., MCR and Fall Out Boy, Ice Nine Kills and Slipknot, and, possibly the most important, Kiss.

Naomi held up various band shirts, several of them foreign, Mang and Van plushies to complete her BT21 collection, jewelry and several new pins from Spencer's and HotTopic, a skeleton onesie, then carefully stacking her Funko Pop dolls for all to see.

"Man, Funko dolls ain't shit!" Katsuki remarked boredly from where he lay on the sofa.

"Hey, I'll fucking end you Katsuki!"

He grumbled something she could quite make out and decided living was the better option. Several others went, Shoto showing off the jean jacket he bought, Deku rambling on about the new All Might and Hawks hoodies and action figures he got from LunchBox, even Koda put in a few words about the nature books he had purchased from Barnes and Noble.

By the time it was over, it was nearly 10:30, and everyone decided it was time to turn in for the night. Shoto carefully carried Izuku on his back, as he had fallen asleep nearly an hour ago. Katsuki was leaning on Eijirou from the elevator to their door. He was about to walk in when he heard a whistle from a few units down. He looked and saw Naomi, the only one left outside her room. She smiled at him, which was quite unsettling, and he jumped as she snapped her fingers just once.

"Sweet dreams, Katsuki." She waved as she disappeared behind the large oak door, leaving him with skin crawling. As he climbed into bed,he made a promise himself and to whatever deity in the sky who was listening.

"I am never waking Naomi Shinsou ever again"
