Chapter 6: The Agony of a Braxisis

What was going to be a fall of rain, soon turned into a powerful torrent, combined with the winter cold, was to stay in a warm place and not leave.

With Bably... Well, it was different. He just didn't care if the rain was there or not, as his scales are waterproof and he doesn't feel the water at all, so he calmly walks towards his destination.

Along the way, he sees most people and aliens enter their homes or find a place with a roof over their heads.

And he keeps walking.

Except for the heavy rain, the streets were very quiet when everyone hid, there was even no one in sight.

It was a mixed day for Bably, with various emotions coming to the fore when he went to visit the owner of that coffee shop, or with that strange alien who visited his home.

But anyway, he was already starting to leave X'a Nim, far from where the roads are, although there is a dirt path where he is going.

He goes along the path, with no soul in the vicinity to interrupt him.

Pretty calm, just the way he likes it.

As he walks, he sees that the dirt path was flooding, but he is not really worried, as he knows the path well.

He sighs slightly, enjoying the icy air.

...

There it is again.

The feeling of being watched, there it was again. However, this time he didn't bother to turn around to see where he was, he didn't care.

I mean, he's at the stage where he doesn't care what dying is, no matter what they say, so if the guy who escapes him wants to kill him, let him do it, although he wouldn't do it without fighting.

There may be people who refuse to accept this attitude (and aliens like that NAMELESS cupid), although they couldn't care less about his opinion, it's his life and him waste it as he please.

.

.

.

After half an hour of walking with mysterious company behind, he arrive at his destination.

The place is a meadow with mountains here and there, with a small stream that ends in a lagoon.

Near the stream, there is a tree leaning backwards, with many branches and leaves on top, being slowly frosted by the torrential rain and the cold of the environment.

Bably turns his head slightly, and can be found many flowers of the colors violet, pink, or yellow, these being of different kinds, although, like the leaves of the tree, they were frosting, but more rapidly.

Having appreciated the view, he approaches the leaning tree, walking until he is at the beginning of it.

He stares there for a moment, as if he's appreciating something.

Following this, he crouches down and pushes aside the lawn with his claw, although hidden from the naked eye, a small and somewhat thick stone sign could be observed, on it, he can read 'Xal and Farith'. Bably only sighs with joy at the sight of them while smiling slightly. Until you do, son of a...

Bably gets up from the ground, and looks at the stream, and begins to reminisce about his past...

Start of the flashback

It was a sunny, somewhat hot day, and coincidentally a couple of young adults were passing by, holding hands as they smiled at each other.

"According to the owner of the cabin, this is a good place to relax for a while" Said the cheerfully energetic man as he pointed to the place.

"And apparently he's not wrong" Said the woman as she nodded her head. "The tranquility of the place almost paralyzes me like a cut in the jugular"

The man laughed a little awkwardly at his girlfriend's comment.

"Those comments... You still can't get that out of there, huh?" the man said awkwardly as they both left their backpacks at the foot of the tree and started to take some things out.

"I was born a warrior, love, it's not possible to take away my roots" She replied while she grabbed a knife and inspected it, followed by looking at her beloved, with the look she had, some would be intimidated, because she gave the impression of being crazy... Or rather a psychopath.

"I would rather say butcher" Corrected the man while laughing slightly nervously "But anyway, I brought to make grilled meat, but there is a lot to cut"

"I've cut bigger things" The woman sneered as she lightly stroked the knife, followed by licking it.

He just sighed.

"Well Xal, I think I..."

The man's comment was interrupted by a few shrieks not far from them, they both turned their heads there, they didn't see anything because of a hill right in front of them, on the other side of the stream.

However the screech was getting closer, Xul, the woman, prepared her knife while taking a defensive stance, in front of her boyfriend, however, he narrowed his eyes, hoping to get a better look at what was peeking out at the top of the hill.

The origin of the squeals finally gave a face, it was a baby dragon, a baby braxis to be clear.

"A baby dragon of life!? What is it doing here!?" Xal asked, as confused as she was angry.

However, the man, seeing the calf struggling to crawl, threw away everything he had at hand and ran without hesitation. This caused Xal to let her guard down and stare dumbfounded at her boyfriend.

"Farith! What are you doing?" Asked Xal annoyed.

However, the man named Farith didn't bother to turn to look at her, and jumped up, landing on the other side of the creek and starting to climb quickly.

"Love...! Ughh" Xal exclaims and growls angrily as she goes towards her beloved.

When Farith reached the top, he hugged the calf tightly, and the calf shook violently in response.

As far as Farith was able to observe, the calf has a humanoid appearance, although with scales and a brown scalp still developing, and he even managed to identify that the calf was still blind, as its eyes had not developed properly.

How did he manage to identify that? Personally, I've never met a blind person, so I wouldn't know how to explain that to you.

Anyway, back to the topic, Xal comes to his side, looking at him as an angry psychopath would.

"Farith...!" Xal mentioned annoyed.

"Look Xal, see blood on his body" Farith pointed out as he shows the braxis calf to his mate while still standing firm in the face of the calf's struggles.

With a grunt of annoyance, Xal observes the calf, sees that it has light green blood as crystal clear as water, giving the sensation of divinity, there is also a more viscous violet liquid, which is more complicated to move and dry.

"... What a bad time we've come" Xal commented, feeling a bad taste in her mouth.

"We have to go to his relative" Farith answered.

"And I'm the crazy one here!? No way!" replied Xal. "You don't know how a Kau Lid fights, they are perfectly forged weapons for war"

"But it may be that the braxis is still alive and needs help!"

"How? With an emotional help?" Asked Xal sarcastically.

"The Kau Lid may have already fallen..."

"And risk fighting one if there are still members alive!?"

"... How many Kau Lid victims were registered to make it out alive?" Farith asked suddenly.

Xal frowns, confused.

"Don't change the..!"

"Responds! How many?" Farith interrupted, looking at her firmly.

She faltered slightly as she took a step back, looked down for a moment to think about it, then looked back into his eyes.

"Very few" Xal said in a low tone.

"And was there a solitary calf among them?"

"... No"

Seeing that his girlfriend didn't say anything else, Farith turns his gaze, and not so far from them he sees a rising smoke.

"Then something must have happened, come on" Farith said, ready to get going.

However, before he could even blink, Xal had placed the knife on his neck, very close to the jugular.

"... Xal?"

"I'll be the one to kill you first, not you, is that clear?" Commented Xal with venom in her tone.

As calmly as he could muster, Farith nodded.

Xal pulls out her knife abruptly, but not before slitting his throat slightly, followed by bringing the knife with her boyfriend's blood close and licking it off, without taking his psychopathic and angry gaze away from him.

"Let's go," Farith said as he started to run with the baby in his arms, being followed by Xal.

.

.

.

What they found was within expectations, yet they had been equally surprised.

For in this part of the meadow, where it were surrounded by mountains, there were remnants of a fierce battle, where a total of 8 of the Kau Lid had been torn to pieces by a single dragon, yet he was barely breathing in agony, the wounds along his body were mortal, and both his blood and that of his fallen adversaries stained his entire body.

The maiíb couple looked at each other, nodding their heads in sync. Following that, Xal steps forward a bit while keeping her guard up, Farith staying behind her, still hugging the already calm calf.

Farith glances sideways at one of the deceased Kau Lid (the healthiest one, at least). Its appearance is based on that of a maiíb, however, its entire being is composed of stones and crystals. The scalp of the Kau Lid is entirely made of stone, but strangely it gave the impression of being hair, its eyes, however, are merely two crystals already dull due to lack of life, there is also another of those crystals in the center of the chest, although larger and less rooted to the body, as far as color is concerned,  The whole body is violet, darker in some areas and lighter in others, but the color remained.

Returning to his situation, Farith sees that Xal is placed in the dragon's field of vision, the dragon begins to growl as he makes an effort to get up, but one of his arms ends up breaking, causing him to separate from his body violently as he falls to the ground once again. Because of his weakness, he just snorts in grief.

Farith, seeing that it is unlikely that he can do anything, approached the dragon's field of vision and pushed Xal away a little, she had barely backed away, still keeping an eye on the braxis.

The life dragon, seeing his young, snorted with relief, as he tried to pet him, but it just couldn't even move a fingernail.

"Your calf is fine, you've done... A good job protecting him" Farith commented as he knelt near him, releasing the calf and trying to encourage the fallen dragon.

The calf, consequently, approaches his father instinctively as he begins to pull out one of his scales and start sucking it, although he's attached to his father.

The dragon of life was calmer, seeing out of the corner of his eye his young safely. He turned his gaze to Farith.

"Maiíb" The dragon called faintly.

"Yes?"

"Do you think you can... Raise him... In my absence... When it arrives... The moment?" Asked the braxis.

As he said those words, the couple fell silent, glancing at each other sideways for a while. Thinking about it, they gave their answer.

"I'm sorry braxis, but we..."

"We'll raise him as if he were our own" Farith interrupted firmly as he gently grabbed the dragon's shoulder.

Xal looked at her boyfriend as annoyed as she was irritated, but decided not to say anything.

The dragon flickered faintly in response.

"I'm thankful maiíb... You should go... My partner is coming soon... But I know that... She... will leave you in charge of our breeding... In some future... Close" The dragon of life managed to say, before fainting

Whether instinctive or sentimental, the calf was able to detect that his father had finally died, so he began to squeal accordingly, hitting him with its head.

Farith, with a look of pity, strokes the head of the braxis.

With a somewhat heavy sigh, he stands up and turns to look at Xal.

"We'd better get going" Farith said.

"Until you make a coherent decision" Xal complained.

Xal was about to run, however, she is stopped abruptly by Farith's firm grip.

"Not like that, we're walking" Farith said as he let go of his arm and began to walk.

"And wait for the female braxis to come for us?" Xal asks, arching an eyebrow "No matter how much love and care I have for you, I have my limits"

"It won't be necessary, however, we would make our situation worse if we ran away" Farith explained "You'll see it just... right now"

Suddenly, a loud whistle began to make an appearance, and before they raised their heads to the sky, something landed violently in front of them.

The faint dust that quickly rose dissipates, revealing an orange-scaled humanoid dragon with dark green sclera and long black hair.

And no, she didn't have boobs, she's a reptile, leave that to the mamono, okay?

Back to the topic, she was furious, no, she was full of anger, her teeth were grinding at each other, and she was ready to engage in a fight.

Xal was ready to get in front of her boyfriend, but Farith, without taking his firm gaze off the dragon, stopped her with one arm, slowing her advance and earning a confused and annoyed look from Xal.

Not caring much about this action, the dragon's teeth grind even more against each other, with fire about to come out, as it clenched its claws tightly.

Farith, on the other hand, just stared at her firmly. Xal looked at both of them, confused and worried, not really knowing what her boyfriend was thinking.

And before the disaster begins, the shrieks of the braxis calf echo throughout the area, even reaching the ears of the trio. This caused the dragon to stop what she was doing and turn to look at the source of those sounds, frowning worriedly.

The braxis turns to look at both maiíb for a moment, looking annoyed, but no longer as hostile as before.

Farith nods his head slightly, and the dragon stares at him for a while before flying off and heading quickly towards the calf.

Farith, inadvertently, releases the air he had been holding in his lungs.

"I really wonder if the one who is out of the head is the psychopath or her boyfriend who has balls to spare" Xal comments bewildered.

Farith laughs nervously.

"I guess we were both missing the screws that fell out in the workshop" Farith jokes as he starts walking.

"... I guess so"

End of Flash Back

.

.

.

... Look, I know I mentioned about how they found Bably, but I'll tell you more about it later in this story! Don't be impatient!

Oh, and speaking of Rome, I've forgotten to detail they appearances.

Xal is a young woman with black ponytail hair, dark skin, and crimson eyes. She was dressed in... Well, the outfit part I'm too lazy to narrate, so your imagination should take care of it, just keep in mind that it was a great day to ride in a short outfit.

Coming up with Farith, he's a young man... He was a young man with a fair complexion, brown eyes and brown hair.

Okay, with that said, let's get back to Bably.

He sighs quietly as he smiles slightly and briefly at the memory.

He blinks a little and sees the figures of his parents, like Xal crossing his arms with a neutral expression of a madwoman, and with Farith smiling at him.

...

Wait, this is how it should be? Bably noticed a few details.

In the first instance, he had no recollection at all of where his adoptive parents came from or what they had said prior to his appearance. What's more, he didn't even remember when they confronted her birth mother.

... Actually, come to think of it, braxis can't forget anything, so these memories isn't actually his.

Bably, the braxis, the dragon of life, or simply dragon, was noticing something, the place was covered by a violet haze.

And apparently, due to the fog, both the cold and the rain disappeared, replacing instead a warm and comforting environment.

... Too comforting, in fact, a feeling was beginning to arise that he, though at the time mad, generally disliked.

Excitation.

Yes... He didn't like that, he'd rather have pain than that, he just got tortured.

Because yes, braxis also have mating seasons, although only the males, since the females were available all the time and at the time they wanted, very convenient, huh?

But don't think that a male braxis becomes docile or tries to throw himself at a female, because what's more, his sensitivity and madness to these things is such that they would kill his future mate in his fit of madness.

Yes, very strange, but this is like a test to prove if the female is really fit to father a strong offspring, otherwise... Well, they have the option of being compost for the soil.

In case the female wins the fight, that's where the male stiffens and spreads his legs, demonstrating both his docility and his acceptance of his rival... Yes, kind of like the standard Mamono dragons when the human defeats them in one-on-one combat.

And while Bably's season had yet to begin, he was certainly losing resistance against aphrodisiacs due to his body preparing for that torturous season.

By the way, an irrelevant detail, did you know that Bably is still chaste to this day? Believe it or not, there were female braxis who have tried to break it in the seasons, but they... Let's just say it backfired.

Moreover, considering that they are in danger of extinction, there were not many who were going to try to be their suitors. If you were feeling depressed about not having a mate to at least, imagine a male braxis so powerful that no female can defeat him.

Yes, too much power could even become a waste if there is no one to level your power.

But let's get that shit out of the way, I sound like a certain author of a convenient encyclopedia.

Anyway, Bably growls as he starts walking, aiming to get away from that strange haze.

And that feeling of being watched hadn't gone away since he took that path. Apparently, his stalker was a mamono, because if it were anything else, he would have killed him directly, slowly or quickly.

The feeling of excitement was not serious, but mild, but there it was, persistent, and growing very slowly. Naturally male braxis tend to be immune to aphrodisiacs, unless and during mating season approaches.

For the braxis males, sexual arousal, and sex itself, was just pure agony and torture.
