Born to Queen Penumbra and King Oberon, Princess Raven Butterfly entered a world still marred by the scars of past conflicts. With her striking black hair streaked with maroon, piercing violet eyes, and maroon feather-like marks on her cheeks, she carried an aura of quiet intensity from the moment she was born. Unlike her mother  Raven was elusive preferring to observe rather than command. Growing up in the grand yet cold halls of the Butterfly Castle, Raven was often seen as a mystery even to those closest to her. Despite being the heir to the throne she rarely sought attention, instead watching from the sidelines as nobles and warriors vied for her mother's favor.

A  court historian once state: "The princess was a complete personality carbon copy of her great-great-great-great grandmother Queen Lucille the Illusive. Just like Lucille, Raven had a way of disappearing when you least expected it. You'd turn to speak to her, and suddenly, she was gone—vanished into the corridors, always listening and always learning. There was a depth to her, a quiet storm beneath the surface."

Despite her reserved nature she excelled in magic. Unlike Penumbra who wielded her wand with laid back force, Raven's magic was precise, controlled and strategic. Her spells were more often illusions, misdirection, and silent whispers rather than raw destruction. From a young age, Raven's relationship with Queen Penumbra was complicated. While Penumbra loved her daughter she was often busy doing who knows what.

A former knight described one of the queen's lessons:
"The queen would demand Raven to cast some spells and show her ferocity. But the princess always hesitated not out of fear, but because she saw the game for what it was. She did not want to be her mother's puppet. Perhaps thatwas her greatest defiance." Penumbra saw this as weakness but King Oberon in contrast, encouraged Raven's intelligence. He often gifted her books of forgotten magic knowing she preferred wisdom to warfare.

As Raven neared her inheritance of the Butterfly Wand, an event known as "The Night of the Veil" cemented her reputation. During a grand banquet an assassin infiltrated the castle, slipping through the guards unnoticed. It was Raven, not the knights, who uncovered the plot—not with brute force but through careful observation. A castle servant later recounted:"She walked right up to the assassin and whispered a single sentence. Whatever she said it froze the man in place. He dropped his dagger and fled as if the very spirits of the underworld had spoken to him."

This moment earned her the epithet, "The Veiled," a testament to her ability to unearth secrets and wield knowledge as a weapon. When the time came for Raven to claim the Butterfly Wand, it transformed to match her nature. Raven's wand was elegant and ominous—a sleek, dark staff crowned with a swirling sphere of shifting violet and maroon light. It pulsed with an eerie glow, its magic favoring deception, illusion and control over the battlefield.

When Queen Penumbra died, Raven stepped up and ruled with quiet authority. Unlike previous Butterfly rulers who flaunted their power she operated from the shadows, her true intentions always concealed. She expanded Mewni's intelligence network ensuring no enemy could act without her knowing. One of the royal diplomat's described her reign best: "You never knew where you stood with Queen Raven. She would smile and say little and yet, somehow, she always knew your secrets. And when she did act it was too late to stop her. Queen Raven really was like Lucille."

Raven knew that power was not just about strength, but about control. She kept detailed records of every noble's secrets—illicit affairs, hidden debts, forbidden magic practices. These records were locked away but their existence was no secret. Anyone who dared oppose her knew she had the means to ruin them with a single letter. Duke James, who had once tried to rebel, confessed before his sudden retirement: "She never threatened me. Never raised her voice. She simply handed me a note, written in my own hand—a confession I never made. I stepped down the next day."

Raven was not a tyrant, but she was no savior either. She was a queen who ruled from the dark ensuring that (just like her grandma Astrid) no matter which way the scales tipped, they would always be in her favor. At age 24 Raven married a nobleman named Evander Northwing. At age 27 she gave birth to Cruella Butterfly (a girl with half black half white hair, black eyes, and red squares with dots in the middle on her cheeks). Raven passed the wand to Cruella when she turned 14 before dying of smallpox along with her husband. She is buried in the royal Crypts.
