Astraea Butterfly, the daughter of Queen Eudora and King Silvius, became one of the most well-respected diplomats in Mewni's history. Known for her fairness, calm temperament, and ability to bring peace to even the most volatile situations, Astraea's rise to power was influenced by her mother's quiet resilience and her own natural gift for mediation. Her early life was marked by sensitivity and a deep sense of justice which prepared her for a future as a skilled negotiator and advocate for harmony in a realm often filled with chaos.
Her mother was a quiet and introspective ruler. Eudora's reign was marked by a reserved presence which many attributed to a deep, unspoken pain. Behind closed doors, Eudora carried the scars of past trauma—a difficult history of sexual abuse and rape by her childhood teacher that left her emotionally withdrawn. While she was respected as a ruler, her trauma left her unable to express herself freely, and she often avoided public events or court matters that required intimate interaction.
As a mother, Eudora was loving but distant, preferring to show her care in quiet, subtle ways. She did her best to raise Astraea in a safe and protected environment, ensuring her daughter would grow up without experiencing the hardships she herself had endured. Despite her reserved nature, Eudora instilled in Astraea a deep sense of empathy and a belief in the power of understanding others.
From a young age, Astraea was known for her fairness and calm demeanor. In the Butterfly castle, she grew up surrounded by magic, courtly life, and the responsibilities that came with being a member of the royal family. However, unlike many of her royal peers who indulged in the grandeur of their status, Astraea was a quiet and thoughtful child, much like her mother.
One of Astraea's defining traits as a child was her ability to mediate conflicts between others. She had a natural gift for listening to people's problems and helping them find common ground. When children in the castle or neighboring villages got into squabbles, it was often Astraea who stepped in to settle the disputes. Her calm approach and ability to see both sides of an argument made her a trusted figure among her peers. As she grew older, this talent only deepened, and she developed a reputation for her wisdom and sense of justice.
As Astraea entered her teenage years, her natural inclination to solve disputes began to attract the attention of the royal court. Advisors and councilors took note of her ability to remain calm in difficult situations and soon Eudora was bringing Astraea to treaty negotiations with her. Under her quiet exterior was a sharp mind, able to pick apart the details of an argument and find solutions that benefited all parties involved. Her presence in these meetings became indispensable.
Despite her own quiet nature Eudora ncouraged her daughter's involvement in diplomacy. Though she rarely spoke about her own personal struggles, she admired Astraea's strength and composure, and saw in her the potential to be a queen who could bring about lasting peace in Mewni. The two shared a deep bond, with Astraea often comforting her mother during difficult times while Eudora imparted her wisdom on patience and empathy. At age 18 she created the Box Of Truth, a truth telling device with a conscience.
In her early twenties Astraea officially took on the role of Mewni's queen and chief diplomat. By this point she had already mediated several key disputes between the Mewman nobility and various magical creatures(excluding monsters) earning her the admiration of both her subjects and foreign dignitaries. Her approach to diplomacy was centered around fairness and the belief that every voice, no matter how small, deserved to be heard.
Astraea's greatest achievement as a diplomat came when she successfully negotiated peace with the Lucitor Family of Mewni. Historically, tensions between the Butterflies and the Lucitors had led to numerous wars and conflicts. However Astraea's approach was different. Rather than relying on force or threats, she chose to engage with the underworld kings directly, listening to their grievances and offering solutions that addressed their needs. Her calm empathetic nature allowed her to break down centuries of mistrust and forge a lasting peace that benefited both sides.
At age 26 she became queen and married Edwin Longbottom, a member of the mewman council. They had a daughter named Petunia. Edwin and Astraea both died in a fire at ages 50 and 56 respectfully.
