The Weasleys
When Iris returned that afternoon to the house on Tennyson street, she was a ball of anxiety. She had stopped at the shops on her way back in order to prove something to both of them. And as she walked through the door she could only feel her emotions building up as her brain tried not only to comprehend what she had gone through herself but also how she was going to tell her husband.
George was someone who she knew would be amazing at the hopeful next stage of life they were going to enter. He had been so ready the first time around before it had come crashing down around them. And he had been devastated. Just as much as she had been if not even more so. And therefore, telling him the news she worried for what would happen if history repeated itself. She wasn't sure if it did happen what would come for their relationship. The first time might have brought them closer but a second time could tear them apart. And as she kicked off her shoes and hung her coat up she allowed these thoughts to be pushed aside as she focused on just trying to get the words out to tell him what was going on.
"Hey beautiful how was your day?" George had come to meet her from what she assumed to be the kitchen if the kitchen towel on his shoulders was not a sign of this. He paused as he looked at her, truly studied her. "Have you been crying?" Iris immediately went to rub at her cheeks annoyed at herself for not checking that she looked okay before leaving Lisa's flat half an hour earlier.
"I'm okay I promise." Iris smiled at him despite the way she looked and her brain trying to tell her otherwise Iris did feel okay. Underneath the anxiety and fear, she was a little excited and as time had passed she began to feel a little happier with the results. After Lisa had reassured her time and time again that she was not upset that it had been Iris who got the positive result and not her, still not that Iris believed her fully, she had felt a little bit of happiness developing. It was not like Iris did not want children of her own, she had thought of it time and time again now that she had someone in her life she could see herself having children with. It was more of the fact that the last time she had come close to it being a reality only weeks later did everything go horribly wrong.
Rather instead of saying much more to him in the hallway Iris just headed towards the living room where she sat herself down on the sofa and waited to see what George would do. He would disappear back to wherever he was before she appeared and with the familiar loud click of the kettle she supposed he was preparing something for them both as he waited to hear what had gone on for Iris during the day that had lead her to cry. He would appear a few minutes later with two mugs and take the seat directly next to her on the three seater and wait for her to say something to him.
"I saw baby Joseph today." Iris started focusing on the probably most normal part of her day. George looked at her confused before accepting she would go about it whatever way she wanted to.
"How is he?" George questioned a thought of the last time he had seen the baby a week or so back now.
"Still adorable slept most of the day away to be honest, I'm sure that's not going to be a fun night for Padma and Roger tonight." Iris mused taking a prolong sip from her mug as George waited patiently beside her, the thoughts of his own day long out of his mind at this point. Wishing slightly that Iris was a little more direct but knowing that she never was the most straight forward when it came to story telling.
"Then Lisa told us the real reason she had invited us over. And no there were no little sandwiches like she promised. Lisa had been real nervous about taking another pregnancy test. Her and Hector are struggling to conceive no matter how hard they are trying." Iris explained as she slowly got to the point she needed to tell him but didn't know how to actually share the words. George would only hum in response, he had heard the women talking about it a couple of times beforehand.
"So she didn't want to take a test alone asked if I would do one with her. Unfortunately Lisa's came back negative." Iris paused at this moment as she hoped George would slowly work out what she was trying to tell him. And she watched on as he mullered over her words a couple of times. His eyes widened and he placed his mug down on the coffee table to take it all in.
"I am not the best guesser but I am right this time aren't I?" George did not have to share his guess aloud as Iris nodded her head and placed her own mug down before accepting the man launching himself at her and into her arms.
"I've brought another test to prove it to the both of us." She informed him but George only pressed himself in closer no intent of allowing her to move any time soon.
"Don't need another test to prove it. After last time I didn't think it would be possible." He spoke no further as his voice broke and the pair shared not only the loss but also the prospect of the future. And as she moved her hands through his hair she realised what was sat on that sofa. Their Weasley unit was expanding.
