chapter 2: Darkness before dawn
It has been a few weeks since he was diagnosed; he found out at his last appointment that the cancer cells have spreaded. Lei had no idea what to do next. His family and friends already knows about it and his father still hasn't accepted that his son has Liver cancer. His mother and his friends were very supportive.
He woke up the next morning feeling sick. He tried to eat something to help the feeling in his stomach. But it didn't help. As soon as the food hit his stomach he felt nauseated. He got up and ran to the bathroom as quick as he could before vomitting into the toilet. This happened over and over through out the day. Around supper, he was in the room looking through a book, when suddenly his pain came up again. He got up and ran to the bathroom as quick as he could before gagging in the sink.
"There is no way I'll be able to get through this." he thought as he grabbed a paper towel and wipped his mouth, "I better make each day count."
He waited until his pain subsides before making his way downstairs to join his mom for supper. Once downstairs, they both sat down.
"Lei?" his mother asked as he looked at her, "did you go to work today?"
"No i was going to, but I felt sick the whole day " he replied.
"Well at least try and eat something. It's not good to skip a meal in your condition." she replied really worried about her son.
"I know, I'll try but I haven't been able to keep any good down." he replied.
"Just try please. Of you can't keep it down, I'll try and make something that your stomach can handle." She replied looking at him. He smiled and thanked his mom and they started to eat. It wasn't long until his father came home. His father wasn't happy to see him at all.
"What are you doing here?" his father asked clearly annoyed
"I came to see mom." Lei replied.
"Unless you went to work, I don't want to know about your problems!" his father yelled.
"Father, why can't you just accept the fact that I have cancer?!" Lei replied clearly annoyed that his father hasn't accepted it.
"I have no sympathy!" his father yelled.
"Then if in not wanted here, them I'll leave!" Lei yelled. That last line hurt his mother who was watching the whole thing. She wanted to call her son down.
"But Lei you are wanted here. Don't listen to your father." she said going up to her son.
"Apparently I'm not. Um sorry mom, but I need to get away from father." Lei replied as he went upstairs. He left the house after grabbing his lets and cell phone. He called Mei-Zuo, Xi-Men, Ah-Si, and Shancai to explain what happened. They agreed to meet up at Ah-Si's and Shancai's place. Once they arrived, they stood around and asked him what happened. After He explained it, they all looked very angry with his dad. But soon the topic was changed to when they meet Shancai. This made him smile.
"Here is better then being in front of my father." Lei said looking at his friends.
"You know we are always here for you Lei," Mei-Zuo said then looked at Ah-Si then playfully punched his arm, "isn't that right Ah-Si?"
"Thanks guys, I really appreciate it." Lei replied smiling. They sat down and started talking about other stuff. When suddenly his pain hit again. He told them he needed fresh air. They all looked worried as got up and limped towards the door holding his stomach tightly. Lei opened the back door and walked towards the patio chairs while using the wall as support. Once he sat down in one of the chairs, he felt sick. He grabbed a hanky that was in his pokect and spat in to it. He looked what was in the hanky getting a shock, it was blood.
Meanwhile, his friends were getting worried.
"I'll go check on him." Ah-Si replied as he got up and went to where they saw lay go earlier. Once outside he saw him, sitting down in one of the chairs but still in a but of pain, but it seemed to be going away.
"Lei, are you ok?" he asked walking up.to his ill friend.
"No the pain is really getting to me." Lei replied looking at him with a small pained expression.
"What do you want us to do Lei?" Ah-Si asked looking at him.
"Nothing Ah-Si, it'll pass." Lei replied as the pain slowly dimed down.
"You looked like you were in real bad pain dude, we're just worried." Ah-Si replied worried about his friend.
"I'm ok now dude, it's wearing off." Lei replied as the pain went away and he stood up.
"Are you sure?" Ah-Si asked looking at him.
"Yea, I'm fine." Lei replied looking at him. Later that night he tried to get some sleep but he couldn't, because the pain crept up again and he also had a high fever. After a couple of hours, the pain finally dimmed down and He finally went to sleep, but he still had the high fever.
