"Why? You know that friends don't kiss, right? Are you trying to turn me into your boyfriend?" Yu Jin said and peered at her, trying to convey his hesitation. However, his actions contradicted his words as he pulled her closer and hugged her in his arms, with his hands gently placed on her waist.
"Of course you're not my boyfriend. But we're still more than just friends, then what's the problem with us kissing each other?" She mischievously laughed and looked at him, placing her hands onto his shoulders.
Without any qualms, Yu Jin gave her a tender kiss on the lips. The appealing sensation did not change comparing to their last kiss. His lips were still as warm and plush as they used to be. Eun Chae was apparently aware that she was not supposed to kiss Yu Jin. But she could not resist that temptation as she was addicted to the feel of his sweet and kissable lips touching hers. They remained locked in an affectionate embrace for a few seconds until Yu Jin let go of her.
"You happy now?" He chuckled with his face reddening.
"Mm-hmm," she nodded her head. For Eun Chae, just a few seconds of kissing were obviously not enough. However, she was aware that their relationship was not a romantic one and she should not pressure him for a longer kiss.
"It's amusing, isn't it?" Yu Jin smiled at her, "We're not even officially dating, but we've done most of the things that real couples usually do."
"Hey, stop it, you're making me embarrassed," her face began to blush, "But you know what's even more funny?"
"What's that?"
"We're roughly the same height, so I don't need to tiptoe while kissing you," she jocularly remarked.
"Stop making fun of me like I'm the shortest guy you've ever met, will you?"
"You really are," she cracked out with a high-pitched voice.
"I'm mad, you know? If you roast me because of my height once again, I'm really gonna leave you alone here," she said in slight annoyance and tapped on her forehead, "Now let's go inside."
"Don't leave me alone," she said with a baby-like voice, resting her chin on his shoulder and following him into the room, "I'm sorry. By the way, can you buy me chicken soup for dinner?"
"Sure, I will."

Ultimately, one week had finally passed and Yu Jin could return to his work at the ER again. Although he was obviously not a workaholic guy, being suspended for the whole week was painfully boring for him. He was out of place and missed the working routine in the hospital. He was extremely eager to come back, and to his surprise, both Dr. Lee and Dr. Jeon seemed to have forgiven the child abuse incident. They even teased him about extending his suspension, making him realise that Dr. Lee was not as scary as he initially thought.
In addition, the ER also received a new pre-university intern, Kaylee Lee. She was a very cute looking Korean-American girl from Pennsylvania. Both Chae Won and Yu Jin were assigned to show her around the hospital. After a few minutes of brief introduction, Chae Won and Yu Jin began showing Kaylee around. They were given a lot of time and Chae Won finished her task before the stint previously set up, so all of them just had some rest at the cafeteria. They wanted to enjoy some chilling time before coming back to the ER for work. After all, they were all interns so Dr. Lee and Dr. Jeon would not have any trouble even in their absence.
"OK so...any of you want anything to eat?" Chae Won asked her two companions.
"No doctor, I had my breakfast already," Kaylee replied.
"Hi Chae Won," a girl approached their table upon spotting Chae Won.
"Hi Yu Na," Chae Won greeted her with a warm smile, "Come sit here with us."
"Are they all your juniors?" Yu Na asked her friend, looking at the two pre-university interns.
"Yeah, both are my juniors."
"Hi guys, I'm Yu Na from paediatrics."
"Oh, I remember you. You are one of the first-year residents who knew Dr. Jeon, right?" He smiled and looked at Yu Na.
"Yeah, I remember you too, we talked before. Then what about her?" Yu Na turned her eyes to Kaylee, "I haven't met you before, right?"
"Hi doctor, I'm Kaylee Lee, a pre-uni intern in the ER. It's my first day here so please forgive me if I'm a little bit dumb sometimes," she shyly smiled.
"Don't worry, we're all very nice. If you try your best, nobody's gonna scold you," Chae Won cracked out and assured her.
"Actually...I'm scolded everyday for fighting with the kids over toys. But it's all in good fun, I guess," Yu Na confessed with a wry laugh.
"You what? Hey Shin Yu Na, don't tell anybody I'm your friend. It's a big shame, you know?" Chae Won playfully chided and scrunched up her face, shaking her head and looking at her childish friend in disgust.
Although the talk with Chae Won and Yu Na was only under fifteen minutes long, it was utterly helpful for both Yu Jin and Kaylee, especially Yu Jin. It gave him numerous valuable insights about life in medical school as well as the application process. Most importantly, Yu Jin finally knew why the admission council refused to give him a scholarship, thus could prepare better for reapplying the next year. Before coming to Seoul, he had always been confident of his ability and thought that he could solely rely on himself to get into medical school. However, knowing experienced and enthusiastic seniors such as Chae Won and Yu Na, he came to a realisation that he still needed good seniors to guide his way.
As they came back to ER for work, Kaylee seemed to be pretty flustered as there were still many things she did not know. She had to ask a multitude of questions, but none of the doctors minded that. It was just part of the learning process and she would become better one day. Observing her, Yu Jin felt like he could recall the image of himself in the very first days he came here when he was also equally clueless.
"Hey why are you keeping following me all the time?" Yu Jin snorted and inquired when he realised Kaylee had been following after him the whole time.
"Well...I think that you can help so..."
"You do know that Chae Won is way better than me, don't you?"
"But she told me that you're good at English, so that's why. My Korean vocab is very bad, to be honest," she timidly admitted.
"Alright then," he chuckled, "If you have any questions then you can ask me. I won't mind if they're in English."
"Thanks in advance, I appreciate that."

Yu Jin had been performing admirably well during his time in the ER, Dr. Lee agreed to send him to the paediatrics department for a week so that he could be exposed to more diverse clinical experience. He was supervised by a young female doctor, Dr. Park Chae Young, who was also the vice-head of the department. In strong contrast to Dr. Lee, Dr. Park was not very serious and strict, but extremely friendly, cheerful and lenient. It would not be exaggerating to say that she perfectly epitomised a stereotypical paediatrician.
The experience Yu Jin went through in his new department was also way more enjoyable and exciting comparing to the tension-filled ER. In the paediatrics department, because the doctors here primarily worked with young patients, the atmosphere was a lot more positive and relaxed. Of course, there were also some challenges in dealing with anxious and overreacting parents or overly sensitive children, but Dr. Park managed to handle all of them nicely. Yu Jin loved his life in the paediatrics department and sometimes even wished that it could be extended to more than a week, it was undeniable. Yet he knew that would not happen, and he had to be adaptable wherever he went. All he could do now was only fully enjoy all the moments he experienced here.
"Next patient please!" Dr. Park instructed Yu Na to bring the next patient into her room after finishing talking with the previous one.
"Hi Min Woo," Yu Na opened the door and cheerfully said, making finger wave at her patient. The next patient was a small boy, only about three or four years old, and was accompanied by his mother.
"Hello my little Min Woo," Dr. Park waved her hands and attempted to have a hi-five with the boy, but he resisted.
"Mommy Min Woo don't want go to the doctor, Min Woo want go home," he wiggled his body, whining and crying.
"Don't worry, it's not gonna hurt," his mother tried to reassure him.
Despite all the effort made by Yu Na and his mother, nobody could soothe him and he would not stop weeping. Losing her patience, his mother was so frustrated that she angrily scolded her own son in front of the doctors.
"Hey Min Woo, what's wrong with you? Stop crying, you're wasting doctors' time," his mother chiding could not help, but even worsened the situation.
"Oh...please don't scold him! We have cases like this all the time, it's fine, don't scold him," Yu Na tried to calm the mother down.
"Yu Jin, the teddy bear, bring it here," Dr. Park said to Yu Jin.
"Yes, doctor," Yu Jin complied and retrieved one of the teddy bears on the shelf.
"Oh hi, Mr. Teddy Bear, what's wrong with you?" Dr. Park winked at Yu Jin.
"Hi doctor, my tummy hurts, can you help me please?" Knowing what Chae Young was trying to mean, Yu Jin slightly moved the stuffed toy and said with a funny child-like voice.
"Oh really," she pouted and put the stethoscope bell onto the teddy bear tummy, "Is it very bad? Does this make all the pain go away."
"Wow, it really does. Thank you doctor!" Yu Jin said in excitement, continuing his act.
Some magically how, Min Woo seemed to be captivated by the amusing act and stopped crying.
"So...who wanna be next?" Yu Na touched Min Woo's shoulder with her hand and gave him a big grin.
"Min Woo, Min Woo," the boy eagerly raised his hands.
And that was only one of the many interesting cases that Yu Jin encountered since he came to the paediatrics department. Unfortunately, it was also his last case, before he would have to be back to the ER.
"Yu Na, bring in the next patient please!"
"That's all for this morning, doctor. You should go and have lunch now!" Yu Na said.
"Oh, that's fast. It's about...eleven now so you guys wanna have lunch with me?"
"Yes doctor," Yu Na and Yu Jin said in unison. "And yeah, can you treat us our lunch please!"
"Of course not!" Dr. Park chuckled, "Use your own money, please! If you stop using the toys which I brought here for the kids, then I might reconsider."
"I'm sorry, doctor," Yu Na pouted.
"By the way, Yu Jin, use the weekend to write a reflection on what you've learnt from being at paediatrics, send it to me, and learn it by heart too. I'll make sure that Dr. Lee grills you on it when you're back to the ER next week."
"Yes, doctor," he submissively said.

That evening, Yu Jin came by the hospital to visit Eun Chae and bring her dinner. Seeing her having no more IV bag could not be a greater relief for him.
"Hi Eun Chae, you've removed your IV bag already?"
"Yeah, the doctors said I was getting better, so I don't need to have the IV bag anymore. Hopefully I'll be discharged within next week," she joyfully shared and looked at him with her smiling eyes.
"That's good to hear. Then we should have a big celebration on that day, you agree?" Yu Jin suggested a huge celebration for both of them. It was a real miracle that Eun Chae could recover that quickly, especially considering that there was a time when she was in a very bad condition.
"Definitely! And Yu Jin..." She said and grabbed his wrists, "Thanks for taking care of me!"
"Don't mention it, I'm just doing what a friend would do."
They ate, talked and then played UNO together for the whole evening until Yu Jin suddenly received a phone call from Kaylee.
"Hi Yu Jin, it's Kaylee here," Kaylee greeted him.
"Hello, Yu Jin's speaking."
"Are you free this weekend, can we meet up please?"
"Well, I'm pretty busy to be honest, but if you really need then we can meet up. Why do you wanna see me?"
"I need you to explain a few things about the relation between blood and urine compartments. They're a bit confusing. I don't think I'll take you more than half an hour so can you help me please?"
"Sure, then you wanna meet up this Sunday? Around two in the afternoon maybe?"
"Yeah, that's should be fine. Let's meet up then!"
Right after Yu Jin hung up, Eun Chae started interrogating him.
"Who has just called you, Yu Jin?" She peered at him and curiously inquired.
"Well...my...colleague," he reluctantly said.
"A girl right?" She gave him a suspicious stare.
"Yeah."
"Oh really," Eun Chae suddenly became excited, "Is she very pretty? Are you planning on dating her?"
"Hey Hong Eun Chae, why are you always shipping me with anyone I know like that?" He grumbled.
"I'm just kidding, don't take it too seriously!" She pouted and made a face at him.
"Why should I mind a mentally ill patient like you?" He sighed and shook his head.
"Stop it, before I get mad at you!" She jokingly warned and nudged his arm, playfully clenching her right hand into a fist.
"Fine! I'm sorry," he apologised and caressed her cheeks.

That Sunday, Yu Jin and Kaylee came to a café to study. Although he wanted to pay for both of them, Kaylee insisted that it was her treat because she was the one who sought his help. That point was so solid that Yu Jin could not object and had to agree to her offer.
"OK, so that's all about it. In short, just take notes of the BP as well as concentration of ions. In the blood, we have sodium, potassium and bicarbonate. In the urine then...all of them plus phosphate, understand?"
"I see," Kaylee smiled and nodded her head, "Thanks for teaching me today, you are really helpful."
"Don't thank me, it's nothing. Teaching is also a way that I can learn, you know?"
"If you don't wanna be a doctor, I think teacher is also a good choice," she remarked.
"No, I'm determined to be a doctor. And to be honest, I don't like speaking in front of a lot of people so being a teacher doesn't suit me."
"By the way, Yu Jin...do you...have an ideal type of girlfriend?" She said and then looked at him with her pleading eyes.
